My Top 10 Favorite Heroes

Of course, this is always subject to change, but at the moment these are my top 10 favorites

List items

  • I started reading Green Lantern: New Guardians in the New 52 which was the same time that I started reading comics. There I was first introduced to the lanterns and initially Kyle Rayner. About a year later, I stopped being a hipster and started reading the main Green Lantern title and was introduced to Hal Jordan. I haven't read enough of John's run yet, but I've concluded that Hal, although brash, has very the right intentions, is truly a good guy, and is a symbol of will and courage.

  • I remember the day i decided to read a comic book. I called my mom who happened to be at a Barnes and Noble, and I asked her to check if they sold comics, because I wanted to try to read one. I got a handful of comics but the first I ever read was The Might Thor #4 by Matt Fraction. Thor holds a special place in my heart and is without a doubt one of my favorites. He is wiser than he appears, he is compassionate, kind, and fights for good. Plus his stories are absolutely epic!

  • Deciding to read X-O Manowar is one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. It was my first indie book and showed me that there was something absolutely epic beyond Marvel and DC. Aric, similar to Hal Jordan, tends to be brutish at times, but it is easy to see that he is sincere and cares for his people; and most importantly, he is a king when one is most needed. Aric is a character that has yet to show his full potential, but without a doubt he is one of the most interesting and awesome characters I know of.

  • Blue Beetle was one of the few books I read from the start of my comic book reading saga. I instantly felt connected with this character that was so similar to me. Not only is Jaime a great person, he is on the road to being a great hero. P.S. I really miss his ongoing!

  • This being Comic Vine, I think few people would expect this guy to be on my list. In my book, manga and western comics are just different shades of the same color. Naruto was the first actual introduction to comics I ever got technically; and yes I follow the print manga not the online scans so I'm a little behind. Naruto is a continuously evolving character that is always becoming a better person and ninja. He has always been one of my favorites ever since I was introduced to him.

  • Not too many Marvel characters on this list, but I can't skip Iron Fist. Now, the unfortunate truth is that I've had a bad experience with Iron Fist. I have always been fascinated by the character because I am a martial artist myself, and the character connects to me in that regard. Both the character and I understand what martial arts truly is: a weapon meant for peace and harmony, both internally and externally. Thats why when the Iron Fist: The Living Weapon was announced, I instantly added it to my pull and was stoked. Its a shame the series was awful. I liked the first few issues, but it eventually became unreadably bad in my opinion, and i dropped it before i finished it. Although it was an awful introduction for me to this character, I still love Danny Rand. He is a character I can relate to in a way I can with very few others.

  • Oh the memories with this character. I was just maybe 5 years old, max 7, when I watched the original animated series. It grabbed me so much as a kid and showed me what adventure was in a much darker way than JL ever did. I rewatched the entire series not too long ago, sophmore year of college, and it only made my love for the character and show grow more. Terry McGinnis is a character I was and still am able to relate to on many levels. He's a character I look up to, and someone I learned a lot alongside with. And if that's not enough, he is a total badass and has one of the best character designs ever imo.

P.S. Yes, I'm not too happy about Tim replacing him either.

  • Here's where the list gets a little less personal. I love a lot of character for many reasons, but for many reasons I don't get the opportunity to read their books as much as I'd like. That being said, I still love the character for who he is. Superman is at the forefront of that list. He is the most human of us all despite his origins. He strives to make his new home a peaceful one no matter the impossible odds. And most importantly, he is hope itself, and that it what people need most, especially in this era.

  • There are way too many guys on this list, I know. So its time I spooke about one of my favorite female heroes, Wonder Woman. I am currently catching up on Azzarello's run on WW, and it was introduced me to the character. I love this character, not because of her looks or power, but because she is so noble, humble and loving, yet fierce and mighty when need be. Not only that but she's one of the biggest badasses around.

  • I will admit it, I have no history with this character outside of reading the Infinity Gauntlet and watching his animated movie. I have always loved Doctor Strange, but its hard to say why. I've always loved a mystic/otherworldy vibe to my characters (as you might be able to tell from the list). But at the same time, its also Stephen's looks and intelligence. He is the Sorceror Supreme, and there something about saying that that get my blood pumping every time. I'm stoked for the movie and Jason Aaron's ongoing happening after Secret Wars.
