Rosalie Devereaux never had the luxury of knowing her parents, at least not as somebody cognizant of the fact. Her last and only memories of them are from when she was three years-old, the year that they were killed by a drunk driver who'd had one too many during Mardi Gras.
There were no relatives on either side who were both willing and able to take her in, and so she became a ward of the state. At the age of five she was adopted by a loving couple, a doctor and her husband, who were able to give her the nurturing and love that she had longed for for so long.
She was given the best education that money could buy, something that was a necessity to her due to her genius level IQ. Her mind was always working, always solving problems, and she was always yearning for more information to devour and process. Rosalie lived a dream life until she was nine years old.
At the age of nine, the political axis of the world shift and every country, whether they wanted to or not, entered war. It was either fight or die, and many unfortunately wound up doing both. Her mother worked as a medic for the Southern Coalition, an army amassed from the forces of the southern states and in collaboration with the United States' armed forces as a whole.
When she was almost ten, her family was deployed to the UK, who were being overtaken quicker than anybody knew what to do with. They were on the ground there for just shy of four months before both of her parents were killed in an attack. Truly with nobody left to care for her, Rosalie took to the streets. She was smart enough and old enough to find her own way. Steal some rations here, some knives there, and she'd built herself a good enough cache to survive for a while.
One day, she made the mistake of attempting to lift a dagger from a hidden cache that she had found in the sanctuary of a church. Believing it to be abandoned, she soon enough found herself caught in a trap set by Nyssa Kearney. It was three hours before the assassin came along and let loose the pre-teen dynamo. From that point forward, Nyssa took Rosalie under her wing. And so when the time came for Cerberus to form and Nyssa to join, Rosalie was brought along as well. It was with Cerberus that Rosalie found a new family of sorts.
Despite what has happened in her past, Rosalia has an effervescent and joyous personality. It's very hard to sadden her and even harder to make her angry. Everybody on Cerberus knows that the way to her heart is through dresses. She has a weakness for that specific piece of apparel, and it's common knowledge that if you manage to offend or upset her, the quickest way to smooth her feelings is with a gift and a genuine apology.
Of course, everybody takes extra pains not to hurt Rosalie. There is very little that every member of Cerberus is able to agree one. But the one universal constant for all of them is that they protect Rosalie at all costs. This drives her crazy, considering her genius intellect and the fact that she's known nineteen. But it's very hard for any of them to see past the girl they've known since she was ten. As the youngest of Cerberus and the adopted sister of Nyssa, she's a priceless member of the team.
