http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2012/04/27/is-fox-expanding-x-franchise-with-a-new-mutants-movie/

Even as Fox inches closer to the start dates for The Wolverine (August) and the sequel to X-Men: First Class (January), the studio may have an eye on expanding its lucrative franchise with, of all things … aNew Mutants movie.

Speaking with Fox CEO Tom Rothman at CinemaCon in Las Vegas,Collidertossed out the possibility of spinning off the New Mutants, or some of Marvel’s other X-characters, into their own features. The studio chief simply smiled and answered “Yes,” before saying fans could expect an announcement in the summer.

Pressed by the website as to whether Fox is speaking to any filmmakers about the project (or projects), Rothman said, “All I have to say is, I agree with you in your assessment of the potential in a lot of these characters.”

Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, the New Mutants debuted in 1982 as young superheroes-in-training at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. Essentially, they were junior X-Men, a concept that’s been resurrected a couple of times over the decades, both under the title New Mutants and New X-Men: Academy X.

How, beyond time period, Fox might differentiate a New Mutants movie from X-Men: First Class, with its young, inexperienced heroes, may prove an interesting exercise. But we’ll likely have to wait until Comic-Con International in July to hear the pitch.

So it looks like Fox might give New Mutants a film, rather than following the "traditional" and more well-known X-Men characters. I really hope to see New Mutants come to the big screen. I love the X-Men films, I do, but I would like to see an X-Men film with a smaller team and get to know certain characters better.

I love New Mutants, so I hope it will get the greenlight by Comic Con.

So what does everyone think? What characters would you like to see especially? Casting?

I don't think Bobby would go to Scott. Their last meeting was kind of icy, literally and figuratively. Bobby threw a snowball at his head, I think he meant it in good spirit in a way but Scott didn't seem too happy. I'm not to sure.

I think Rogue might go, because she's still hung up on Magneto.

Hank, no. They're relationship hasn't been close for ages. Conflicting values and all...

I don't think Rachel will. She's always close to things that remind her of her mother--well, named after her anyways.

@Mercy_: Yes:D She was the cutest thing ever!!! And she turned out really cool. I have no idea why they changed some really cool characterization on her. She was a cool redhead that I loved, but now I'm kind of iffy about her, depending on who's writing her.

Well, Gwen's true love is Norman Osborn. She lost her flower to him to this handsome devil and they created beautiful genetically altered twins together....

JK. The storyline shits me even as an MJ supporter. I will never ever not get that image of Gwen and and Osborn in bed together out of my head.

In Generation Hope she was definitively not the Hope I fell in love with during Second Coming. In Uncanny she seems pretty cool though. I LOL'ed at her interaction with Namor during the Tabula Rasa arc.

I wish we could have seen Joss's vision of her come to life. I liked the way he described his take on her.

@John Valentine: LOL. I'll never forget his face when he admitted that.
