Hopefully the Growing Pains Are Gone 0

This issue is much better than the first one. While the story's still not quite as easy to understand as it could be, it's much better explained this go around. The lettering is much better than the first issue and works well enough. The art is much cleaner and I'm really starting to like it.The fight between Hawkeye and Spider-Man is great, Hawkeye has a few groan inducing moments but Spider-Man is quite well written. Captain America, although he appears to be the most put together member of th...

It's A Setup, Kinda 0

First off, this series of The Ultimates gives us a new writer and a whole new artistic team. The cover is quite good, although I'm not a fan of Captain America's look and Hawkeye seems to be a bit over the top. The art itself is good, a little off at times and not quite up to the previous Ultimate series, but still quite good. The layout of the comics is much more action-packed then the earlier series, and as such can be a bit hard to follow.Speaking of hard to follow, I am really not a fan of S...

Okay, That Was Awesome 0

I'm going to start with my one complaint about the ending of this series: S.H.I.E.L.D. should've been seriously dismantled, and Nick Fury should have been investigated by the U.N. or someone for overstepping his authority. This entire conflict began because of America overstepping her authority, but it seems that if the Ultimates step away from S.H.I.E.L.D., that it somehow makes everything alright. It would have been more realistic for the agency to have some sort of repercussions to deal with....

Simply Brilliant Action and Art 0

Every character is on form, every villain is interesting and nuanced. The Colonel, while he tries to stay an honorable fighter, falls back on tricks and does everything he can to win against Captain America. Dynamo is shown to be an unstable murderer who was only kept in check by winning, Loki reveals himself to the Ultimates, and the Syrian speedster is ripped apart by Quicksilver. Tony Stark unveils a surprising new Iron Man, which I love Millar wrote in. It's hard to do new things with Iron M...

America Isn't As Lost as It Appears 0

I really like this story. I've felt it's been a bit weak the last couple of issues (and by weak I mean good vs amazing), but I love the absolute ambiguity of it all. I can't help but agree with the invading army, and I feel that in terms of being objectively good, this "Axis of Evil" trumps the Ultimates. While the Ultimates do things to ensure the protection of the American and European people, these invaders openly care about the American people. They're doing this for them. It's weird to see ...

America Disappears with Captain America 0

The title is basically how this issue goes. Everyone gets a page or two to contemplate Captain America being imprisoned, we don't even get to see the guy and hear how he feels about being considered the traitor.Instead, all of America's enemies attack as one to curb the overreaching government, but they go a little overkill and take over the entire country in the span of an hour. It's ridiculous, and it's overreaching. If you're trying to curb back an empire's foreign involvement, it seems way o...

Great Issue, Two Big Flaws 0

I'm going to start off by saying that there were two things I didn't like about this issue. First, the conflict between Jan and Steve's relationship is weirdly ended by Steve leaving in the middle of the argument, which somehow forces Jan to pack up all of her stuff and meet back up with her abusive ex-husband. It seemed like an overreaction on Jan's part, but we'll see how it plays out.Second, I dislike the fact that for two issues now we've been getting little hints that the traitor is Captain...

Continuing the Story with Much Needed Laughs 0

So far this series we've discovered that S.H.I.E.L.D. has a mole, Banner has been executed for the Hulk Incident, Hank Pym has been slipping further and further into obscurity, and Thor has been stripped of his powers and shown to possibly be a raving lunatic.Heavy stuff, but this issue manages to delay the story another month and focus on some much needed laughs while expanding on the world surrounding the Ultimates. It's very interesting to see non-Super people attempt to be Superheroes, and t...

Best Way To Handle the "Hulk Incident" 0

In the first Ultimates series, the Hulk Incident was a huge deal. It was one of the stories that I personally did not think would receive a conclusion. How do you conclude a story that has the Hulk rip apart Manhattan, killing hundreds of people? How do you conclude it in a way that truly concludes it without being unrealistic for the universe it's set in?Well, The Trial of Hulk pulls it off fantastically. If you're looking to write a comic that involves a Superhero being hated by the society th...

Everything is Great but the Cover 0

As stated in the title, everything about this issue is fantastic, except the cover. I just really hate it. It looks cheap, and the effect of it doesn't make very much sense. Is it showing how both Banner and Thor are mistrusted by Shield, or is it just there to accentuate the fact that they are the main characters of this book? Or does it just look cool?Anyway, dialogue is still fantastic, and the development regarding the Hulk is amazing. I happen to love the New World Order vibe that the Ultim...
