Powers and abilities:
The mutant mage: His powers come not only from magic sources but also from his own altered genes. This means that his is able to use his basic powers for slightly longer than an ordinary mage. Because of how much he has been exposed to magic, he has developed a small resistance meaning that spells hurt less and deal less damage to him. His DNA has essentially been mixed and altered by magic in such a way that he has been left with facial deformities.
Aura of protection: This aura adds to his own resistance to magic meaning magic and other non-physical, energy based and mental attacks have a significantly high chance of not working, doing nothing, or only moderate damage to him. This aura also protects others around him but the resistance is smaller and spells only have a slightly reduced chance of working on them.
High energy: Remus has a high energy pool which he uses to fuel his spells and other abilities. The energy is constantly regenerating even in combat while he is throwing his spells around a lot. If he uses up all of his energy then all it takes is a good thirty minutes of rest before it is full again.
Insight: Upon simply looking at a person, alien or any other kind of being for a minute he can gather knowledge about what power, spells or knowledge they have. He can also learn about a persons past through this. He cannot determine their weaknesses. He normally uses this to see what’s on offer to steal. This ability can be negated or blocked but it would require someone with at least a higher level of psychic power.
Intelligence: Remus has a large amount of knowledge on all kinds of magic and the strategy that those wielding such magic will use. He also has a moderate amount of knowledge on regular super powers and mutations and a little on how people tend to use them. His intelligence allows him to analyse what skills a person is using just by fighting with them.
War veteran: His time in the great wars between his cult and others have left him hardened and unrelenting in combat, as well as allowing him to hone his skills and mental durability in long and chaotic battle scenes as well as short, fast encounters. His experience in using his staff or bare hands in melee combat makes him a surprisingly formidable foe in hand to hand situations, he very able to hold his own in a close combat situation without his magic.
Assassin's bane: During his youth he had to fend off multiple assassinations and kidnapping attempts, and even after the war he still had to face off with assassins. Through long, hard study as well as first hand encounters he learned through and through the many tactics that almost any assassin would wish to employ into their arsenal. He's slightly paranoid and almost has a sixth sense for knowing when someone's about to attack, or when food or drink has been spiked.
Basic powers:
Remus has a small set of magic spells and powers that do not require a high amount of concentration, energy or effort. Alone they do not do much but combined they can dish out a lot of harm to his foes or great help to his allies.
Telekinesis: His telekinesis allows him to lift anything that doesn't weigh over 8 tonnes, he can use this in a spell form and leave someone suspended for about two minutes without much effort or he can keep them up and throw them or it about whilst draining his energy and slowly tiring him. The downside is that he can only target a single object or person at a time.
Weave of strength: This is a spell which when targeted at what he considers the foe or enemy will make them around 75% weaker than their original strength. (If this strength is infinite, they lose all of their strength). If this spell is targeted at something he considers a friend or ally then it will make them 75% stronger than their original strength. (If the ally’s strength is infinite then nothing happens). The spell appears to look like a bolt of green lighting travelling towards an opponent and moves just as fast, while it is not impossible to dodge it is incredibly hard. If another enemy/friend is within 3 meters to the target the spell bounces to them and will continually bounce from person to person so long as they are 3 meters away from person who got caught last. He cannot use this spell on himself
Weave of health: This is a spell which when targeted at what he considers the foe or enemy will remove any healing factor whilst causing pain and moderate internal damage for up to four hours. When it is targeted at a friend or ally it heals a moderate amount of damage. For example gun shots, deep cuts, internal bleeding, brain damage will be fully healed. It even kills cancerous cells. The spell can be used again and again as long as Remus has the energy to do so. It also give an ally a small healing factor if they didn’t have one or if they did have a healing factor it works twice as fast for four hours. This spell works the same way as bolt of strength and is just as hard to dodge. He cannot use this spell on himself.
Weave of knowledge: This is spell which when targeted at what he considers the foe or enemy will reduce their intellect, will power, morale and reduce their reaction time by 25% for eight hours. When targeted at what he considers friend or ally the spell increases their intellect, will power, morale and will increase their reaction time by 25% for eight hours. This spell works the same way as weave of strength and is just as hard to dodge. He cannot use this spell on himself.
Greater spells:
These spells require much more concentration and energy from Remus. But he can still use them again and again in a fight if need be, he just can’t use them as much as the basic spells.
Nullify: This spell will take away the powers of everyone in a 20 meter radius not wearing a specific amulet he created for himself regardless of how powerful they are. If being caught is an entity made from energy then there is a high chance of it being destroyed. This will reduce a human with powers to being an average human, other races, aliens and other being are set to the same standard as a peak human. The spell lasts for a day. The spell looks like a large flash of green light in the affected area
Immunity: This spell grants a target complete immunity from all magic and attacks that are not physical. This includes mental attacks. The spell lasts for about thirty minutes and cannot be dispelled until then. This spell looks like a wire frame of a green cylinder surrounding the target.
Silence: This spell will make anyone in a 30 meter radius unable to speak or communicate through any other means. This can normally render spoken incantations useless and can cause distress as people find that they are no longer able to speak. This spell lasts for a day. The spell looks the same as nullify.
Sleep: This spell can be used to send the target into an unconscious state. The time spent can vary depending on the intellect or will power of the target, but the minimum time is around 1 hour. A beam of green energy travels from his staff to the targets head like a solid beam of green light.
Copy power: Remus can copy the power of his choosing of any being regardless of what they are. The target retains their power and Remus gains a slightly weaker version, the advantage is that unlike his ability to steal powers or spells it requires much less energy and much less concentration. It also does not have the same obvious effect that comes with the spell steal meaning that he can be stealthy when copying a spell. Even an omnipotent or inter dimensional being cannot negate or avoid it.
Steal power: Remus’ greatest spell is to take the power, spell or knowledge of his choosing from a target and then use that power or spell against them. This spell is almost permanent and can last up to ten years. It costs him a large amount of concentration and energy to use but once he has the power of his choosing he can use that power with minimal effort. The spell works on any being of any being, even an omnipotent or inter dimensional being cannot negate or avoid it. The spell looks as though a cloud of green, black and purple lighting is being pulled out of the head of the target and into the head of Remus.
Stolen powers:
Stolen powers can be kept for up to ten years but can be forgotten a second after stealing it if he wishes it so. Any stolen power, spell or knowledge can be used to its full potential and he already knows how to use and fully control it once gained. He can decide how many powers, spells and how much knowledge he can take away. He can fully strip a person of power or only take a single physical trait. The learned spell or power can be used with minimal effort regardless of how much effort it would take the original holder to use. If the original owner of the power, spell or knowledge dies then Remus gains the power forever unless he forces himself to forget it.
Equipment:
Modified wizard staff:
This is made from a special alloy of adamantine that is much weaker but also much lighter, while he does not need the staff to cast his spells but it does help him channel them easier. The metal is encased in a very exquisite looking black wood with decorations and engravings, at the top of it there is a collection of green liquid bubbles that float around the top of the staff and appear to drip down the staff like wax melts on a candle. The staff cannot be used by another as it requires Remus’ code of magic which is something that not even he knows.
Cloak of wizardry:
A gift from an old friend, this cloak is decorated with many amulets that offer the aura of protection that helps to reduce the damage of spells and other powers that aren’t simply physical damage. If anyone other than Remus wears the cloak without his permission then the person wearing it has their existence taken away on a molecular level.
AKronos amulet:
The legendary amulet is what makes him immune to his own spells as well as stopping others from taking his. As he is attacked with any form of attack that is magic or is not physical the amulet takes a quarter of the energy and gives it to Remus in a pure form which he can use for his own spells. The amulet is embedded halfway into his chest and has become part of his body. He can live without it, but he won’t be immune to his own spells. That and there will be a hole in his chest.
Mask:
The metal mask that he wears not only cleanses his mind and helps dull the pain of using his magic over and over again but it also blocks mental attacks. Only the strongest mind would be able to break through the masks defences. It also covers his face which is a sight not even the Devil would want to see.
Weaknesses:
Magic aside, Remus is just a normal human with no extra physical traits other than being resistant to magic. He has the stamina of a human that does some only some exercise. He benefits less when he is dealing with someone who has no powers. While his energy level is high and regenerates quickly, using spells over and over again has a mental strain like headaches, migraines, short black outs, comas and in the most extreme cases. Death.
Personality:
Remus is a tenacious man who is much disciplined with whatever he does. He never drinks or smokes so that his mind is always clear and he does not engage in relationships with women. He has the ambition to become the world’s most powerful magus but he won’t sacrifice an innocent’s life to get there. While he uses his powers he can seem slightly crazed and he appears to be overly hyper and ecentric, whereas when he is out of combat he is a calm and collective person who is almost never angry, even when attacked. He has been kept secluded from regular society since birth and so does not know common culture very well. He is constantly curious about what the world has to offer him and is full of intrigue at almost any point
Bio (short):
Thomas Carter was a boy who was born into a cult that delved into a pure yet diverse magic known as AKronos, named after its discoverer in 113 AD. The trait of all cultists of the AKronos is that their magic is always the same distinct purple or green colour. At the current time his mother and father were leaders of the cult, his mother died giving birth leaving the father to juggle leading the cult whilst looking after his son. Thomas was trained in magic before being trained to walk, every moment of his childhood was replaced with study and constant exposure to magic, unlike other children born into the cult Thomas was kept away from others and had more access to teaching equipment and more powerful and complex incantations. It only got worse when he reached 15 as his face began to deform due to his genetic alteration which he had since birth, this made it harder to integrate with others but he was determined to become a worthy leader of the cult. He trained and trained, his genetic mutation allowed him to concentrate with less effort and pull off spells without tiring as quickly as the other people his age. By the time he was sixteen he had defeated all the other children in 1 v 1 duels in the local area and was soon gaining the recognition he deserved. When he became 18 he had the AKronos amulet put into his chest as all future leaders of the cult had to don the sacred artefact, the process was long and painful but well worth it as there no greater honour in the cult than to have the sacred amulet in ones chest.
As he reached his 20's he had to deal with a multitude of assassins that tried to kill and capture him to get to his father. But he fought them all off with ease, each one was more predictable and easier to deal with then the last. This experience had made him a master of dealing with all assassin techniques known to man and made him learn hand to hand combat the hard way. Because he had clearly shown great aptitude it was no surprise that when the cult came under threat he was one of many taken to defend, wave after wave of different cultists of all sorts came to attack but none could beat the AKronos cult, the people who lived through the battle normally recognised that where ever Thomas was fighting the enemy seemed to be pushed back the most. He became a general, a leader of his own three squads of loyal cultists that would follow him to the end. By the end of the long, long wars it was established that none of the other cults would dare engage with the AKronos cult or any of its members, although the AKronos agreed to this as a mutual stand point and decreed that they would remain as neutral as possible in all magical affairs.
In his 30 's Thomas spent more and more of his time studying not only magic but the powers and mutations of the outside world that the entire clan feared would soon learn of its ever hidden existence, all of this study led to one particular set of skills used by AKronos himself that allowed him to take the power, mutation, knowledge, skill, any trait that he learned through his insight could be taken and used for himself. He mastered this spell so that he could take power away from one and give it to himself.
through this discovery of a forgotten art he received praise from all AKronos cultists and earned the respect of the entire cult and he was second in power only to his own father who was always proud of his son. That was until one day, things all went wrong. While he, his father and another well known AKronos cultist that came from another country were talking about the future of the cult and the development of powers that were not magic related, they were attacked by a dark ancient power. The same power that had attacked the cult in its early years, renowned for it greatest power. The death phase. A spell capable of killing any mortal instantly. A battle ensued between the ancient and the three great mages who were unprepared, Thomas had the advantage of having to deal with assassins through his early life and faired better than his father and the other mage. It was a long fight and inevitably the being used its most power spell on both Thomas' father and the mage, he was the only one left fighting. There was no counter spell for the death phase, but he remembered the new ability he had gained and been practising. He stole the death phase from the ancient and used the spell against him. It disappeared and Thomas picked up the mask from where the being had disappeared. It fit on perfectly and matched the rest of his robes. The guards came bursting in and made a corrupted investigation lead by an old rival. In the end they determined that Thomas had killed them both using the death phase and exiled him from the cult for the murder of their leader and the use of a forbidden spell.
Left only with his magic and personal belongings Thomas was given a new name by the cult and forced to forget his old one so that he could not become the leader or ever return the same. The name was Remus Crux, he took the name and left to explore the world he had been kept away from for so many years. He forgot the death phase, he didn't want to be reminded of his fathers death or his exile. He looked back on the HQ of the cult, and then walked away watching it disappear. He wanted to prove to the world that he did not commit such an act, the only way he knew how. With magic. He found himself near a place known as Puerto Ayacucho, little did he know how close he was to the centre of mutants unsure of where to go first he crossed the border into Venezuela and searched for an entrance into the city. This was where he would begin in the world.
After his time in Venezuela, Remus went off to adventure in perilous per suits of grand artefacts. But alas, none of these expeditions paid off and after blowing away a large chunk of his hard earned cash he gave up on adventuring choosing to move and settle down in New York where he could occasionally step in as a lowly vigilante to help clean up the local crime. His acts have earned him little recognition so far and his impact on the world has been insignificant, but he still has high hopes for the future and he still values the greater good above all.
