@rdclip:

So it's more the legacy of it that everyone hates? In particular the aftermath of how it effected comics in the 90's?

The story itself? I thought it was fun... I could totally feel the epicness they were going for with every issue... And I first read almost 2 decades after it happened.

Some are just there for Superman to punch, which isn't a bad thing, but they can't write a movie around them.

But he definitely has a deep enough Rogue's gallery that us only seeing Luthor and Zodd in the movies after almost 80 years is a travesty. I think Mxyzptlk would be a brilliant round villain in a film if they could get past the visual problem.

As is my nature, I'm not going to complain about a project before I know anything about it. But a guy like Frank, if he sticks to his guns, is not the guy to do Superman story. What, is he gonna turn Lois Lane into a prostitute? Is Superman going to break people's legs, bones, and such as a warning? Some kind of weird, impromptu Sex scene between Superman and another hero?

Hope not...

Hopefully he understands that some things (kinda) work for Batman, and that he has to tell a completely different kind of story for Superman.

Really all I'm asking for is belt loops.

However many ways it can be interpreted. Having the shirt and pants be 2 separate parts, or having it just be a jumpsuit with a belt comparable to what a trench coat would have. Either way or any way.

The Championship belt interpretation was interesting, though.

1.) I would have Kryptonians be the peak of natural evolution... Perfect, non-cosmic beings... Which would explain why they are so unique that just a little bit of yellow sun makes them into some of the most powerful beings in the universe. I would also explain that Human Beings are the closest species in the universe capable of reaching Kryptonian levels of perfection after a few hundred million more years of evolution. They're basically on the same exact path.

This would explain a lot:

  • Why Jor'El chose Earth to send his son.
  • Why Kryptonians and human look so much alike.
  • Why Humans are so readily capable of receiving super powers (explaining the other heroes).
  • Why aliens like Darkseid and Brainiac give a crap about Earth so much.

Among other things.

2.) I would also emphasize his bioelectric aura more often... I feel like they don't talk about it enough, which is why people are still confused by how his powers work. It explains his tremendous strength, invulnerability, flight, super speed, heat vision, and everything else.

3.) Clark Kent and Superman will not have the same friends... No Jimmy Olsen is Superman's Pal, but also Clark Kent's Pal, and no Lois Lane is both Superman's Girlfriend, and Clark Kents partner... Superman would interact with these people in the same way the Flash does in the CW, which is moving really fast, distorting his voice, and never letting them get a good look at him. I mean, at this point, Lois either knows who Superman is which takes away the classic dynamic, or is an idiot. I find this to be the solution. He saves Lois, but it doesn't mean he has to stand their and pose with her afterward.

4.) Kryptonite would be dangerous to everybody. Not a cancer causing long period of exposure, like it is now, but an almost instant feeling of sickness... It just effects Superman worse because of his body's natural dry-sponge-like absorption of radiation, and also it having a way of turning his bioelectric aura against him.

5.) Red Sun radiation does not hurt him, it just eliminates his bioelectric aura, which doesn't make him human, but instead simply means he has to use his own natural strength and durability without a means to fly or any other fantastic powers. He's still, however, significantly stronger than the average person (a little less than Golden Age levels).

6.) I would stop using the term "weak to magic" and replace it much more prominently with "vulnerable to magic" as in his bioelectric aura does not protect him from being turned into a duck or something... Doesn't mean he can't punch Harry Potter in the head faster than Harry can figure out whether it's Levi-OH-sa or Levi-o-SAH...

7.) HE WOULD HAVE POTENTIALLY LIMITLESS STRENGTH, and his bioelectric aura would explain it. He doesn't physically get stronger, but his aura does.

9.) At least one of his parents are alive, preferably both. Doesn't really matter, though.

This is just part 1... I would imagine all of these are already somewhere within the Superman cannon, I just would emphasize them more readily to simplify him for people that don't read comics.

I know the red underwear on the outside doesn't have a cultural foothold anymore, but it made more sense with the belt. Now he just has a rope (if you will) wrapped around his body for no reason...

Since the yellow has been phased out of his costume, in an attempt to bring it back, I would suggest the following designs

Original Superman design

No Caption Provided

Yellow belt sans red underwear, with red belt loops

No Caption Provided

Yellow belt with blue belt loops and a red belt buckle

No Caption Provided

And since the DC people love the red belt so much, here's a red belt with blue belt loops and a yellow belt buckle

No Caption Provided

Hopefully somebody that can draw better than 8-bit can help out with the visuals. But seriously, give the belt a purpose...

Ever since they got rid of the red tights, I've been trying to find a way to get that Red, Blue, Yellow color scheme back in prominence (It seems like the newer artists just gave up on the yellow, outright)... I never though of how cool Superman would look with a sash...

A cleaner, more traditional superman version of that last image, though... Hmm...

Since you guys are scan masters, I'd like to know/see (if possible) some examples of the best feats of characters like Sentry, Hyperion, Gladiator, and Blue Marvel (who I know nothing about, but heard was a Superman rip-off) compared to the best feats of Superman (post-Crisis, at his best).

Sentry in particular I've been hearing is a real badass and may be even more powerful than Superman at this point (I've heard comparisons to Doctor Manhattan). True?
