I have not yet made a Comic Vine specific image editing video, but I just made one for Screened.  It's the same tools so should help you.

That was useful, I have never edited a story arc before, now i know how (without screwing up first :p)

Everyone who edits should have to watch the Advanced Wiki Page Formatting. Very interesting that what Google and other search engines looks for also happen to be what makes pages look good! It should be a quest or something to make everyone watch it, or at least be aware of its existence.

Also, is there an equivalent for Command Z for Windows users?? You know how many times a picture insert messed me up and I couldn't undo it!

Hey WIKI editors, watch the last video in the above post.  In it I go over lots of helpful tips on how a page should be laid out.  It's super long, I know, I'll make a more condensed on in the new year.

Plan on watching it when I get home from work. Interested to pick up new tips and tricks.

Glad to see these updated.  Thank you!!  I managed to watch all the videos last night.  Very nice!  I'm using some the tips in this post. ;)   However, I have a few questions.

  1. The Advanced Wiki video and the Edit a Character video seem to contradict each other regarding image placement.  In the Edit video you say Comicvine preference is for images to rotate alignment regarding multiple images on a page.  IOW, the if the first image is flush left, the next should be flush right.  But in the Advanced video, you say most images should be flush right.  Which should it be?
  2. I noticed in none of the videos do you fill in the "Leave a comment for a moderator" box or mention it.  Do you still want people to fill in the box and let moderators know what they changed / edited?
  3. In the Edit a Comic Book issue you check multiple jobs for a creator.  But that function is bugged, and Ben Templesmith's second checked box as artist is dropped, and he is listed with only one job.  Is that bug getting fixed soon?
  4. Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, but can we make the H2 and H3 headers links?  Or should they remain solely H2 and H3 tags with no other formatting?  For example, I didn't realize individual characters have pages on Giant Bomb, which list all the video games they appear in and more info on those games and appearances.  So, besides listing the games on a character page here, I could link the header to Giant Bomb.

Puck in Video Games

Okay, wrong Puck, I know, but it gets the idea across. :)

@Rheged: I'm working on a brand new video that will fix any contradictions, and will lay out a complete style guide to follow.  It will clear everything up.

Oh yes... It really REALLY helps when people use the comments box.

What xerox said. ^_^ Especially when you're working on big pages. It helps the mods to know what you're changing/adding/removing. I know that people have had subs rejected before for not putting comments.

With the Wiki Tasks that ask for multiple plot summaries is it ok to write some of them or is it an all or nothing type deal? And if it is ok then how would one go about that. Is it ok to take on the task, send in a plot summary or two and then say it's finished? I don't know how the moderation works and don't want to just go do it and get internet yelled at.

YES!!!  A style guide would be a godsend!  THANK YOU!

@xerox-kitty: and @The Dark Huntress:   That was my understanding, but didn't know if things had changed.

Control + Z is a Windows keyboard command.  It may not work every time for every thing, but it works more often than not.  It's a lifesaver.

I've seen the bonus points for Wiki Tasks split between users and tasks started and ended by one user, and then started by someone else.  But your best bet is to write the person who opened the task and check with them if you've any questions.

@Rheged: It's completely ridiculous but I don't want to bother them with a bunch of questions. I know they're Staff and that's their job but I feel bad. It's stupid. Thank you for the reply. I'll think about it. There is so much on here I want to do it's tough to decide where to start haha.

I kind of got Jeff to confirm that new How To videos like these and a better style guide would be coming to Giant Bomb...awesome.

You can't change the main picture image on the character page until you have 5000 wiki points, I believe... or is it 10,000?  Until then make your post on the Main Picture Changing Thread and someone will take care of it.

It's 5000.

Most current appearance that also fits the guidelines (for the most part). I don't think anybody's going to change it.

@The Dark Huntress: @Rheged:

I removed the old "Advance WIki Edit" video and replaced it with the How to Format Wiki Pages video, I have it embeded as the 1st video in this post.  If I happen to contradict myself in old tutorial videos compared to this new one... follow what this new says :)

I'll embed it here too:

@Red L.A.M.P.:  Does the formatting information in the new video apply to team pages as well? Also after watching I touched up the War of the Gods page and would like to know if the H3 header is used properly. I just fixed the order and the header.
Posted by Red L.A.M.P.
@Pokeysteve: The H2 tags origin, creation, character evolution, major plot summaries is specific to the Character pages.  Team pages would be similar.  I'll have a blog post up soon explaining the H2 for all other types of articles besides character.

@Pokeysteve: Also for that War of the Gods page, which is a story arc, all you need is one H2 tag that reads "Plot Summary"  then condense everything you've written into 2 or 3 paragraphs explaining the plot in present tense.

Read this blog post for more info on plot summaries:   What is a Plot Summary - Comic Vine Wiki Tutorial

@Red L.A.M.P.: Thank you Mr. L.AM.P. I didn't write anything on the War of the Gods page though. I just fixed the order and the headers. It was like 10 points. No biggie.
