Will all roads lead to Gotham?

Since the reboot of the DC Universe into the consolidated new 52 there has been the underlying question of what has happened and what is the big event that the separate streams of DC, Vertigo and Wildstorm have been brought together to face.  Thus far there have been few clues as the meaning of the presence of Pandora, but with the revelation today of 6 new titles to replace 6 canceled ones, it seems almost as though DC had a plan all along, to merge real world business decisions with comic book world plots.  There does seem to be some signs that everything is leading to a similar end state some place, and presumably for the next big crossover.  The signs that it heavily involves Gotham?  Well they are not as obvious.  It would be easy to say that it would in some way with numerous Batman titles, plus Nightwing,  Batwoman, Batgirl and Catwoman, but it seems that the clues are less obvious.  For instance, two separate series are drawn to Gotham for no real reason.  All Star Western is basing the adventures of Jonah Hex there, and in Grifter, Gretchen Reese ends up there being interrogated while Grifter is off elsewhere.  As well Batman was the only series in which the mysterious Pandora showed up twice.  Of course there are a few other common threads running through DC, the usual Green Lantern Corps stuff, though Q Core has shown up in unexpected places as well, and other series indicate that there is an alien invasion looming.  While these may also factor in, there are early indicators that Gotham might be ground zero.

It sells.

Also, hasn't it been established that Gotham is, historically, one of the worst places on Earth? Not even joking, I'm pretty sure Gotham City is builty on top of atleast half a dozen older hellholes...

@Adnan: Yes true it does sell, though really when there is a big crossover the place where it happens is mostly irrelevant as all the heroes are coming together.  It just seemed to me that one of the keys to the whole thing has to do with Gotham.

I don't know if I'd like All-Star Western so much if he wasn't working with Arkham and in Gotham. I like Gotham a lot and it is the best fake city they have.

Also with all the stuff that is happening in Animal Man and Swamp thing, I don't know how it has not affected other comics.

I think All Star Western is only set in Gotham because it's the only way they could really set up the buddy-cop vibe between Dr Arkham and Hex.

Wait, Pandora showed up twice in Batman? When was the second time?

Could be, I am not saying any absolutes here, just as DC has not said anything its possible that all these stories are pointing there

I am one of the worst people on the site to ask for a scan from.  I think Fhiz knows where to find it though

Gotham is just one giant magnet for trouble.

@InnerVenom123: It is true. I noticed her showing up twice as well.

I'm not saying anyone's lying, I just like to be 100% sure is all

@InnerVenom123: I didnt think you were accusing me of lying, I am not reliable to provide scans for such stuff.  Fhiz is one of the top wiki editors (40th) but he stays out of the forums mostly

@RazzaTazz: @InnerVenom123: Batman #2 near the end when Talon hits the car.

With a crappy cell phone camera

Oh, wow. That's weird.

I would love for them to develop Metropolis more other then Superman. I also would like to know what it was like in the past in  All Star Western .

Posted by InnerVenom123

Here's a better quality scan.

Posted by Daveyo520

@InnerVenom123: Indeed.

@Dernman: That would not be that bad. Gotham is the one that in the most fleshed out. They don't really give their other cities the same effort. Gotham is a character, the other cities are just places.

Posted by Daveyo520

@InnerVenom123: Indeed it is.

Posted by RazzaTazz
@Daveyo520: I never thought of the city as a character before, though I guess maybe Metropolis might fit the bill as well

@RazzaTazz: They talk about it a lot in the current run of Batman and in The Black Mirror. How Gotham changes on you and you can't know it and how it has a mind of its own. I think Scott Snyder (who did both) likes to portray it as a character. They need to talk about Metropolis more and give it back story. I would like to see that.

Huh...I could see how Gotham could be, just as I contended of Pandora, the linchpin of the New 52. This actually fascinates me quite a bit. Good stuff.

That was more my point, of course Gotham will figure into a company wide crossover, just I am wondering if it will have a key role.

@RazzaTazz: Maybe we will find out something crazy in Gotham's past from ASW and the Court of the Owl stuff in Batman that will affect the world. Maybe some Religion of Crime stuff with ASW and Batwoman.

There are definitely lots of angles

@RazzaTazz: Indeed there are. Though the thing that I see affecting all of DC is just in two books and has nothing to do with Gotham. The Rot taking over the world from The Red and The Green. However Pandora has nothing to do with that and it is a little early to have the cross over. Can we call it Crisis Point?

Posted by RazzaTazz
@Daveyo520: Oh didnt see that first, I swear, still though that is more about Batman than about Gotham I think

Posted by Daveyo520

@RazzaTazz: Well The Court of Owls has been ruling Gotham. It is hard to separate Batman and Gotham.

Posted by RazzaTazz
@Daveyo520: I have to start reading Batman

@RazzaTazz: Yes you do. Scott Snyder is a great writer. Also read his Swamp Thing. And since you will be reading Swamp Thing read Animal Man. You should also get a copy of The Black Mirror. Good stuff.

Shade and Star man really made me love Opal City, it looks awesome and has a cool history.

@spiderbat87: lol, if that did not say Opal City on it I would have thought that was Gotham.

Click the link and read some of the history
Posted by Daveyo520

@spiderbat87: I shall. I just meant the look. The darkness, color and architecture are very much like Gotham.

Posted by cosmo111687

That's interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. In addition to the titles you mentioned, I, Vampire is moving towards Gotham as well.

@cosmo111687: True and was also mentioned in Stormwatch

Ironic that the Batman family series of books were the least affected by the reboot for the most part
