DC Universe has gone through many dramatic alternate realities and continuties. The only things that seem to change is the origins or continued legacies of the Flash family and the Superman family but the Batman family and legacy remains pretty much the same. Batman Beyond's future is set in stone for the DC Universe even though some users have unwarrented reasons for not accepting it. The only thing that remains to be seen is if Damian Wayne will be a foe or friend to Terry McGinnis. When I read Hush Beyond, I was expecting Damian to be Hush Beyond because it would make sense with the reality that showed Damian holding Gotham with explosives. In one reality, Damian is a ruthless vigilante who holds Gotham hostage with explosives in order to save itself but then again Damian is viewed as Terry's mentor instead of Bruce. Personally, everyone likes the sadistic and conflicted view of Damian so having him as Terry's mentor would be a step down from the respect that we have for him. What do you think?
I take it some of us have seen Babs latest report on Levithan Strikes from Batman Incorporated. I like Babs assessment on Leviathan Strikes. It opens the possibilities for a Batman Beyond future to really take off. However, I will agree when I saw the Batman Beyond episode that Babs is referring to, I didn't like it too much because in a way it made Talia seem like a transexual by having Ra's voice replace hers (no offense to transexuals). At the same time, ever since Nyssa Raatko tortured Talia, Talia has been a bit unhinged or maybe Nyssa Raatko has taken possession of Talia and Nyssa's car bombing was a fake assassination. What do you think?
I know I have been prone to speculation and jumping the gun but I think the debate on Catwoman being Talia is over. Judging from the trailer, Catwoman doesn't seem to be the cat burglar that we all love. She seems to be in league with Bane which can only mean she is Nyssa Raatko or a twisted version of Talia. Nyssa never loved Bruce Wayne but she did know how to provoke him. As for Marion Cotrillard, she just might be a love interest with no connection to the League of Assassins then again she maybe the loving version of Talia who is trying to save Bruce from the League. As for Ra's al Ghul, you will see him toward the beginning of the trailer walking toward a table from the shadows. Ra's must have suffered injuries from the train wreck because he has a cane to help him walk. It doesn't seem like the Lazarus Pit did much for him if Nolan even made it exist.
On a humorous note: After watching Bane in the prologue. Its quite clear we are going to have some fun at Bane's expense once again and Nolan's as well. Bane's dialogue will be quite difficult for us to understand unless Nolan was smart enough to put subtitles in the final cut (kinda of doubt it). When I said Bane's mask looks like a half ass version of Darth Vader, I meant it because when he speaks, he sounds like one of those adults from the Charlie Brown show with that "Mwah wah" crap. Nolan's Bane would have been better off looking alot like Dark Helmet.
I'm sure alot of Nolan fans have been wondering about the future of Batman and have called me a hater because I have viewed Nolan's vision of Batman as narrow but after watching the prologue for Dark Knight Rises which is set eight years after the Dark Knight movie...my mouth just dropped. Eight years the Batman has been out of commission. Are you f%$@#ing kidding me. How realistic must Batman be to have his name, his legend, his lore butchered. Batman should always remain present in Gotham even if the people despise him. I mean what Gordon said at the end of Dark Knight rang true for Batman's determination to save Gotham. Yet Nolan contradicts this by setting the new movie eight years later. This will perhaps be the last Batman film where Bane and Batman will kill each other. I mean Batman has put off killing villains for quite awhile and if Nolan is going to change everything we know about Batman then Batman might as well get his hands dirty. I suppose the only thing the Nolan fans can look forward to is Nolan or some other director making three films that chronicle the eight years that Gotham has been deprived of a Batman. Perhaps Batman Incorporated will be hinted but it won't be widely publicized as Bruce Wayne did in the comics. The future of Nolan's Batman looks bleak and fleeting in my eyes. I saw potential after Batman Begins but now I only look forward to a new Batman saga as well as a Justice League movie and a Batman Beyond series. I understand Nolan fans may hate me for criticizing Nolan's Batman but I only ask for one concession: If they make a new Batman saga and it is just as good as Nolan's or even better. Please don't enter or leave the theaters with high expectations because if you cling to one narrow vision then your judgment will be clouded and ironically you will be either the haters or the converted who do not wish to be hated.
Dark Knight Rises has already wrapped up and the latest pics of Bane give me moments of pause. Bane looks like he is going to the Sahara desert with a tan trench coat and a vest that looks like a parachute is strapped to him. From what my sources tell me, the costume designer for the first two movies has left this project alone because they don't have the passion to design. Their reason for this is due to the loss of Heath Ledger. I admit it was sad that Heath passed away and I commend him on playing Joker but the character is replaceable and anyone who can act insane can do the part. We will just have to wait and see.
As I'm sure many of you have played Arkham City and fell in love with it, the worse has yet to come according to Azrael. With the appearance of Hush and Azrael, my guess is Bruce Wayne will be framed for the murders that Hush committed in Arkham City so the whole Bruce Wayne: Murderer arc might take place in the next game. Simon Hurt will probably appear because Azrael talked about demons and Batman will be the only one who can close the gates of hell. One can only hope that other villains will have a longer engagement in the next game. Black Mask has already appeared but the next game might feature Jeremiah Arkham instead of Roman Sionis. With the appearance of Mad Hatter, we can count on Man-Bat and Killer Moth on showing up since both creatures have a certain degree of hearing and/ or sonar. We may also see the rest of the Wonderland Gang with the exception of the Carpenter. Maxie Zeus may make an actual appearance because the creators have hinted on his presence in both games and if Gotham is going to burn then Maxie can use the lightning from his staff or getting a helping hand from Firefly. The possibilities as always are endless.
After reading the latest article about the Batman Animated Series, I would have to say that Bruce Timm's vision of the Batman opened the door to endless possibilities for the Batman franchise and mythos. If only someone could revitalize this animated franchise once again but make it darker than any animated version. However, to produce an animated version like this you would need someone like adult swim, MTV, HBO or some other mature adult television broadcast to back you up then you enter unforseen territories.
I like how some people remember the Maxx and Spawn because those cartoons really captured the raw material of those comic strips which made them so potent to their beloved fans. It would be the same thing for Batman and personally after seeing Batman: Gotham Knight, I would design each cartoon the same way only difference would be more violence, profanity, sexual encounters, and having dark story lines or grotesque origins brought to life. How cool would it be to see Mr. Zsasz muttering to himself about his latest tally mark, Bruce and Selina entering a warm embrace in Bruce's bed or even better the Batcave, Humpty Dumpty desperately trying to put a corpse back together, Pyg removing someone's face and having Flamingo eat it. I mean those possibilites are infinite. I would also look forward to a Jigsaw Killer version of the Riddler because they basically share the same backstory despite a few details. I sure hope this kind of cartoon is made because I just heard about this CGI version of Batman for Cartoon Network and honestly after Batman: Brave and the Bold, I would think animators would do a much better job instead they continue to butcher a legend.
After reading comcvine's latest article on sexism in DC, I would have to agree that these cartoonists and inkers need to get a life and they shouldn't portray women as Amazon/ Barbie bombshells. But at the same time, our heores need some sex appeal in order to make them a bit more real to the readers because we exactly go backwards with corny banter and American Christian over tones. As readers, we should try to express our concern to the cartoonists of DC and ask them to use this obscure sex appeal as an obstacle or conflict that our heroines must overcome. I believe everyone will agree with me that our heroines have proven time and time that they are more than just a body with T & A. As for Starfire, I mean honestly guys, she has always been a free spirit. Starfire is kinda like a bad ass hippie. She can be maternal, tough and of course very sexy.
As most of you may know Avengers is coming next summer. Its pretty clear that the movie will follow the origin of the original Avengers. Loki will manipulate the Hulk into doing his bidding as before. Capturing the Hulk will be one part of the movie's plot and the other will be Loki's supposed surrender. As seen from Thor, Loki intends to claim the Cosmic Cube for himself which is why he allows himself to be apprehended by SHIELD. Loki and the Hulk will probably be the only two villains in the other hand, the Infinity Gauntlet has been introduced which could mean the possibility of Thanos, Nebula, Adam Warlock, the return of Silver Surfer (pretty much anybody who had anything to do with the Gauntlet saga). Unfortunately, no hints or whispers have been made about these possibilities but I wouldn't put it past Marvel. However, one of my user colleagues has brought it to my attention that since Marvel comic films have been bought out by different film companies, the chance of seeing of these characters might be slim to none. Silver Surfer was already tied in with Twenty Century Fox' Rise of the Silver Surfer but there is still hope for others who are not entirely tied in with the Fantastic Four franchise. Sadly, this also means we won't see Captain America fight side by side with Wolverine nor will we see the Hulk fight Wolverine in Canada. As for Giant Man and Wasp, their origin story is still in development hell and the creators of this Avengers movie have published any chance of them appearing. More likely, their existence will be hinted by Nick Fury or Tony Stark and the Avengers will probably use one Henry Pym's devices to defeat Loki or the Hulk. We can only hope that Ghost Rider 2 will surpass the first one and even though some may not like Nicholas Cage's acting, we have to give him his props for roles like Face/Off, Bad Lieutenant and of course, Kick Ass (Haha). It seems Marvel is also making a Doctor Strange film and since Edward Norton is longer playing Bruce Banner perhaps he should take up the role as Sorcerer Supreme rather than Patrick Dempsy. Dempsy should stick to chick flicks or the emergency room in Grey's Anatomy. Iron Man 3 will have Mandarin, Thor 2 will have the eventual return of Loki, an alternative Bifrost bridge will already be built and perhaps the appearance of the Enchantress which would lead to the creation of the Masters of Evil. Though how can we forget Red Skull. Red Skull survived his ordeal with Cap and he has most likely been transformed into the Russian diplomat Aleksander Rukin and this will also mean the return of Bucky Barnes or should we say the Winter Soldier. This will all take place in Captain America 2. The fate of the incredible Hulk still remains to be seen. The Leader has already been hinted as a potential villain and Abomination is still alive. Incredible Hulk 2 could be made if writers slightly follow the storyline where Betty Ross is poisoned by Abomination, the Leader begins his own utopia and General Ross saves his daughter by enhancing her and himself into the Red Hulks. All and all this is why I love the idea of Warner Bros. owning all of DC compared to Marvel because DC can manage team ups and the Justice League movie (sorry to say Marvel fans) will probably surpass any Avengers movie in the near future. As for Marvel, since Paramount has produced a majority of the successful Marvel films (not to say the franchises for X-Men or Blade weren't awesome because they were) then they should make the effort to buy up the remaining rights to all other Marvel Comic films and enter a partnership with Disney since Mickey Mouse will be handling Marvel's merchandising.
