Fandom involvement in the direction of works is fine, but it should be balanced, nuanced and controlled.
Fanning fanon ships and OOCing characters that would never happen for profit and views destroys good character development, and I know a few works in which that happened. Because fans are a big source of shitty fanfiction, so fan influence should be filtered and chosen carefully by an author, should it be open to possibility? No, but it's like what's what with immigration laws.
I agree with this. Sometimes if fans have too much input in a franchise, then the franchise could go south very fast, especially if there is no character development for the characters leading to that point. Especially when it comes to the pairings and the characters seemed to be forced to be together rather than really developing the relationship.
Grit my teeth and hope the next writer/arc is better.
However, I drew the line at the Lemire/Hopeless/Bunn runs post Secret Wars and finally ending with the whole IvX thing. I just could not get into them.
I definitely couldn't get into anything after AvX. Everything just seems so forced at this point.
I think that the author should get to tell the story that he or she wants too, regardless of what the fandom thinks.
I agree. Even if I didn't like what the author did with the characters, if that's the way they wanted the characters to go, then they should have the right to tell that story. I might get hit with this, but I never understood about remaking the Last Jedi thing. It may not be the story that fans wanted, but Disney made the film and they can decide if they really need to remake this movie to put this series back on track.
I agree with everything you said, particularly the the bit about the whole movie remake shenanigans

I have noticed lately that there has been many fandoms that tend to change the fates of a certain TV show or movie properties such as the fans saving the show "Brooklyn Nine Nine" from being cancelled or petitions being put out to have a remake of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."
So, how do you feel about fandoms having a say in the direction that a franchise should go into? Do you think it's a good or bad thing?
