Should there be miniseries for X-Men characters not well-known?

I was looking on an article done by Babs and it discussed about how Marvel is big on making so many events every month lately.   Since X-Men is my favorite franchise, I was wondering about whether or not it would be better if each X-Men character had their own miniseries that is not apart of the main universe so that way the readers can learn more about each character without having to deal with big events or the focus on one character stealing the spotlight from the other characters?

So let’s talk about Wolverine. Wolverine is the most popular character in the X-Men universe and it’s no surprise that he had his own miniseries entitled “Weapon X” which is about his time at the Weapon X program.   That is a great way to give more depth to a character from the X-Men universe and we learned more about Wolverine this way, but what about the other X-Men characters in that universe?

Sure, we had some X-Men characters have their own brief series, most noticeably Colossus’ Bloodline story and Kitty Pryde’s time in Japan, but those are just back stories of the characters and it would be better if each character had a story that takes place currently, like “X-Force” and “X-Factor.”

I think one of the biggest issues with the X-Men universe is that there are too many characters in that universe and it would have been difficult to focus some of the attention on all of the characters at one time.   Probably the best example about how to use each character individually was through Joss Whedon’s run of “Astonishing X-Men” as he only used six characters (Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Wolverine and Beast) as the main characters and he was able to easily focus all of the attention on each of these characters.   Also, we were able to learn more about the characters this way, especially centering on Kitty and Colossus’ relationship with each other and this would have been difficult to accomplish if there were too many characters within that story.

So I was thinking that maybe Marvel should have some miniseries focusing only on either one character or a small group of characters so that way the readers would be able to easily identify with each character without worrying about major events like “House of M” and “Schism” getting in the way of the plot of the series and confusing readers even more about what is going on in the X-Men universe and where are most of the characters placed in all this.   Also, this would prevent the other characters from being overshadowed by popular characters like Wolverine and Cyclops and would allow them to expand their character development even further without worrying about popular characters taking the spotlight from them.

So what do you think about this? Do you think that Marvel should have some miniseries focused on a small group of characters or one character from the X-Men universe just so the X-Men characters that were not focused on enough can have more character development once they are away from the mainstream comics?

Odd team line-ups for X-Men Post Schism teams?

Okay, so everyone has heard of or read X-Men Schism, which will lead to the split up of the X-Men.  The X-Men series will now be split into two teams which are Cyclops' team and Wolverine's team and the team roster has already been set up for the upcoming X-Men books coming in October and November.  So, my question for this huge event for the X-Men is about the team roster for both teams and whether or not the members in each team fit in with the appropriate teams.  So, I'll start with Wolverine's team since I believe his team is about right.

Everyone seems to fit in well with Wolverine, but there are two members on the team that seem a bit awkward being with Wolverine and that are Iceman and Beast.  Now about Beast, some people speculated that that is Dark Beast and not the mainstream Beast, but say it was the mainstream Beast, what reason would he have to be with Wolverine in the first place?  I mean, I know that he and Cyclops had a falling out because of Cyclops' current stance on protecting mutant kind through violence, but I can't really see him standing with Wolverine either.  And whatever happened to Beast's team, The X-Club that featured Dr. Nemesis and Angel? It's like the moment Schism started, the whole X-Club thing just got dropped and never looked over again. It would have been interesting to see what Beast would have make of the X-Club and having a team full of scientists was definitely interesting to see.  Now with Iceman being on Wolverine's team, it seems a bit odd considering that he has been with Cyclops since the X-Men started and it seems odd that he would suddenly be on Wolverine's team without a clear explanation since he hasn't been in the comics for a long time.

Now onto Cyclops' team! Now here, it seems like that there are many former villains on this team, so what does this make Cyclops at this point?   Obviously, the newer comics are making Cyclops seem like the bad guy, but that might not be the reason for so many former villains being on his team.   Anyway, there are several members on this team that I did find a bit odd and that are Jubilee, Colossus, Sebastian Shaw and Storm.   Now about Jubilee, she is the probably the oddest member to be on this team because she had such a close bond with Wolverine in the past, so why would she side with Cyclops and what happened between her and Wolverine that would cause her to go on Cyclops’ team?   Another case is Colossus and if anyone remembered the classic Wolverine, Colossus and Nightcrawler trio that is constantly prevalent in the comics, this is a complete shocker.   However, recently Colossus has taken on the powers of Juggernaut, so it’s possible that this might separate him from Wolverine (and Kitty Pryde, if the writers want to keep their relationship solid again).   Storm is another odd member for this team since she has once had a close (and I mean close) relationship with Wolverine, not to mention, she was against what Cyclops’s recent actions were, so why would she join up with him, unless the writers will forget about her objections to Cyclops’ current dealings with the mutant race.   And last but not least, Sebastian Shaw and he’s on this list because of his relationship with Emma Frost. I know that Emma Frost was a former Hellfire Club member so of course she knows Sebastian Shaw, but in recent comics, she wanted to kill Sebastian Shaw, so why would Emma allow Sebastian Shaw to be on her team? It might be because of Emma wiping his mind so that he cannot remember what he did, but how long will that last?

Now here are some characters that are either on both teams or are not on either team and that’s Pyslocke, Angel and Professor Xavier. Psylocke is apparently on both teams, so what does this mean?   Does it mean that she is working as a spy on both teams or does she have some sort of plan that involves bringing the teams back together to save what’s left of the X-Men?   Angel is completely missing from both teams and so is Professor Xavier (even though Professor Xavier’s actions lately have not been in favor of either sides). So if the writers decided to put Professor Xavier and Angel on either team, do you think that they will possibly be responsible for getting the team back together again?

So, what are your thoughts on this?   Do you think that the teams are just right or do you agree that something is wrong with this lineup?   Also, do you think that the X-Men will come back together again, despite recent events of Schism?

The Best Moments in Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men Run!

During the recent years of X-Men comics, I have recently stumbled upon Joss Whedon's run of "Astonishing X-Men" and I have to tell you that Joss Whedon's run of "Astonishing X-Men" was easily one of the best storylines of the current X-Men series ever created!  So in honor of Joss Whedon's run of "Astonishing X-Men," I like to share my favorite moments that made this run fantastic and why they were my favorites:

1. Colossus' Return

Easily one of the greatest scenes to ever surface upon any X-Men comics, every X-Men fan knew that Colossus gave up his life during the Legacy Virus arc to save all of mutantkind from the Legacy virus and this scene where he makes his return and runs through a shocked Kitty Pryde is truly emotional and brilliant at the same time!

2. Kitty Pryde gets tough!

In one of the most memorable scenes ever printed, Kitty Pryde turns into a tough heroine in a scene that is a clear throwback of the classic scene in the Dark Phoenix Saga that involves Wolverine being stuck in the sewers and saying the exact same thing that vows the classic "I'm going to get you!" line!

3. Colossus's Joke

This is one of those reasons why I love Peter so much!! It's a brief little scene, but it's a scene that practically every X-Men fan who has ever read Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run remembered very well!

4. Kitty and Colossus finally kiss!

Everyone knows about Colossus' and Kitty's famous relationship, so this scene was basically one of the best kiss scenes I have ever seen from this couple and has been my favorite scene ever since!

5. Cyclops unleashes his true power!

Who would have thought that calm leader Cyclops would go all out as he puts his master plan in action to stop the destruction of earth?  When he used his eye laser beams to full blast, this scene truly defined the awesomeness of Cyclops!

6. Kitty Pryde stopping the bullet

Kitty Pryde sacrificing her life to save Earth from a giant bullet was one of the greatest accomplishes on Kitty's character and truly made her into one of the greatest X-Men superheroes to ever surface the X-Men universe!

7.     The Famous Fastball Special!

Fans of X-Men will definitely remember the classic "fastball special" between Colossus and Wolverine, so John Cassaday's illustration of this famous move easily made it to my top list as it is so well done!

8. Wolverine Loves Beer!

Another brief little scene that has a brilliant joke: Wolverine thinking about beer while he is fighting a huge monster!  This scene always cracked me up and has always been an instant favorite of mine for years!

 9. Kitty Fighting Emma

This truly shows how awesome Kitty can be when she's fighting will full force! Kitty taking down Emma is one of the greatest fight scenes to ever come out of this run!

10. Colossus taking down Ord

Colossus's popular line "I AM MADE OF RAGE!!!" line is pure classic and him taking down Ord is one of the greatest fight scenes ever along with Kitty taking down Emma!

Yeah, it's mainly moments with Kitty and Colossus, but this is mainly Kitty and Colossus's story so that's to be expected. Anyway, this is a list of my favorite scenes from Joss Whedon's run of "Astonishing X-Men" and these scenes will surely not be forgotten!
