@Edamame:

Apocalypse and Sinister run off different scales - Sinister is about manipulating genetic code, whether his own or others to produce ultimate mutants e.g., Cable. Apocalypse is about grand conquest and total planetary domination. While the methods of Sinister may seem harsh they are relatively contained. Apocalypse not so much.

The missing component for a competent definition of sociopathy is the attempt to 'appear normal' - something Sinister doesn't even begin to try to do outside of a larger plotline, but still, that's not the norm.

There's nothing to suggest his behaviour is driven by the desire to negate negative cognition (the basis of OCD - even if, we would be seeing different behaviour). Sociopathy probably, depending on definition  - before his transformation he was married and shown to be caring and concerned for his wife (though still driven and obsessive) and grieved for the loss of his child.

His transformation into Sinister, self described, as the loss of moral baggage which is what leads to most of his acts later being deemed "evil" - emotions aren't a requisite for moral evaluations, and there's nothing to suggest he lost emotive capabilities, just that he became even more driven and focused. That he consistently disregards public safety for his own ends, sure.

It's the mark of Apocalypse, from his original transformation of Nathaniel Essex > Sinister.

I guess that's disrespect for Sentry then? :P At least Rogue didn't come out and say she slept with him. >.>

Alan Rickman. I can't really think of anyone suitable for a "young" Essex.

Ah going to have to side with Mr Sinister here; despite the sometimes horrendous writing and constant nerfs. Still, at his best he is witty, extremely determined and has depth. Thanos gets a special mention too, the big lug that he is.

As a kid sure. It was pure magic. Pure escapism in a world with fantastic powers and villains and it was wonderful (especially the cartoons).

Now I would have to say no. The X-men certainly didn't grow alongside me. They split, splintered disappeared and diversified. Maybe that's the issue? Too many mutants, not enough space to connect to each one so it ends up like a carousel of characters that fade in and out depending on the writer.

Sure they try and make it contemporary. They have 'issues' besides deciding whom gets to pummel who. But without that emotional investment in them, it comes off as shallow or worse, fake. Do I care if Cyclops and White Queen sort out their relationship? No. And so on it goes.

Maybe there's a series that will reignite interest, I'm not sure - I can't see it in the near future (Vampires? Really? >.<)
