Blind and forgetful

Every superhero show has two recurring episodes. The one where the hero loses his sight and the one where he loses his memory. Why is that? I think they're just easy plots and writers take advantage of that. For the most part these episodes are fun and I'm not complaining. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed. Here are just a few examples I can think of. The Adventures of Superman one I went looking for. Post some if you have any.

The Flash

Memory - Cause and Effect

Batman: The Animated Series

Blind - Blind As a Bat

Memory - The Forgotten

Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman

Blind - The Eyes Have It

Memory - All Shook Up

Smallville

Blind - Whisper

Memory - Blank

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

Blind - As Darkness Falls

Memory - Prince Hercules

Adventures of Superman

Memory - Panic In the Sky

Xena: Warrior Princess

Blind - Blind Faith

Xena also had those. In the one she goes blind after some guy she is fighting throws something in her eyes. And one where is forgets everything during the time she was in Asgard. Unfortunately I don't remember the names of the episodes.

Dozen of tv shows have that episode where they have memory loss
Blind thing is less frequent

It's not even limited to fantasy shows

@ComicMan24: @Emperor Gonzo Noir:  I'm sorry I should have been more specific with the memory one. I'm talking about the episodes where the heroes lose the memory of who they are and what they do. The Smallville one is the best example of this. Clark looses his memory and his friend has to explain his powers and show him how to use them (even though he never knew she knew about them).

Wow. I never realized it was prevalent to this degree.
