A must-read for Batman enthusiasts, but... 0

It's fascinating to explore the origins of a beloved character. Many of the characters and ideas introduced in this issue became cornerstones of Batman's mythology, and the fact that they persist to this day is something to marvel at. A Promising First Issue 0

Positive: Something about this first issue, perhaps the stylized, futuristic uniforms worn by the scientists and explorers in 3797, carries a sense of nostalgia that is both entertaining and refreshing. Super-advanced humanity is juxtaposed with tribal life in such a way that parallels are obvious. Future culture seems to embrace facial warpaint. Great Character Portrayals, Minimal Background Illustration 0

Positive: Pak handles the characters very well, particularly the exchanges between Earth 2 and Earth Prime heroes. Earth Prime Clark's interaction with Earth 2 Clark's parents is emotional and entertaining. Shadows and close-ups of gloomy expressions create a dark atmosphere in which Superman and Batman can convincingly coexist.Negative: Panel-to-panel close-ups of facial expressions against black backgrounds becomes tiresome.
