Why Stan Lee and Ashley Wood?

@Icon:  yep sadly, four or five years back at WWLA he and I were talking about having a signing at the store I ran and he started making hateful comments about my sexuality/appearance and laughing about it and pointing it out to anyone in earshot, didn't end well.

I saw the first person on this list and I knew I liked it already but not sure about some of the others

what's wrong with Busiek?

@aztek_the_lost: Busiek is a diva, if you don't approach him right he is a douchebag, I first met him when Astro City first came out and I saw him at SDCC and I was young and stupid and didn't approach him correctly and it didn't go well.

@pikahyper: so this list is a mix of people you can't stand as people and ones you can't stand as actual creators? I don't meet creators myself so I just like/dislike them based on their work for the most part...though I suspect most I wouldn't want to meet in person

@aztek_the_lost: ya pretty much a mix, Busiek is both though, I don't know what happened to Busiek's talent but it waved goodbye a long time ago.

Busiek, Liefeld and Stan Lee are both. Kirkman is just cause he is a homophobe, I love most of his work. Wood, Templesmith and Byrne are purely creative since I haven't met them.

@pikahyper: I always thought Templesmith seemed like a good guy, he used to post on ComicVine but it was mostly just blogs that I assume he posted on other sites too...I love Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse though...

and how long ago are we talking with Busiek? I was excited to read Astro City...are you suggesting that's bad?

@aztek_the_lost: Templesmith does seem like a good guy but I really can't stand his art and I've always felt that a lot of his projects (and Ashley Woods) could have been so much better if they had been done by other people.

Most of Busieks work up and into the 90's was good especially the original Astro City stuff but after the 90's blegh, all the Astro City spin-offs were just so dull and boring, his work on Conan has been really good but stuff like JLA/Avengers and his Avengers work are just blegh.

I love how you and I both think Stan Lee should be #1 on any list like this.  He is my #1 too!

He was a great man, I'll always be appreciative of what he has done for the industry in the past but pretty much everything he has done in the past 10-12 years has been cr@p and it just diminishes how great he was. It also annoys me that we continue to loose so many great creators yet he is still alive and kicking and shilling.

Stan Lee? Come on really? The other options are fine but what Stan Lee's done for the business is influential! And if you mean lose creators by passing away, I don't know what it is that keeps him alive but I'm damn glad of it! I know you may not think he's done much but he's doing plenty in adapting comics to other media! That's the work he's been doing and I can't believe he's on this list! He doesn't deserve to be in my eyes. And I've met the guy and he's a really nice person to talk to!

Stan Lee is annoying, I'm glad to see him on there. He is no comic god.

@ondskapt666: You're right he is not. Jack Kirby is. But he's dead which makes the man the new comic god. Respect!

I liked that Rob Liefeld played the role of Matt Damon on Team America: World Police. I just wish he hadn't delivered the lines without Todd McFarlane there to hold his hand or without a picture of a pony.

Also, Ben Templesmith?? I know his art style isn't for everyone, but he's good people.

@neghead: I wish they'd stop giving Liefeld work, every time I think he's fading away he pops back up like an STD. His last work for all of Dynamite's King #1's were all terrible.

Templesmith is good people, little arrogant/narcissistic but not all that bad, pretty much my top three are nice enough people, the rest are not.

Agreed on Liefeld. I'll never forgive him for trying to take Deadpool & Cable away from Marvel, forcing them to cancel their books & relaunch them as Agent X & Soldier X- which both sound lame, & a lame move on his part- like Liefield created them alone. He had Nicieza help him with DP, & Cable with Louise Simonson. And neither one of them caused any problems with "creator ownership". That was when I really started to dislike the man. Now he acts like he's all cool about it, even doing DP & Cable covers...come on.Just trying to get past the hate he was getting for that bonehead stunt. Now he's even trying to horn in on the DP movie production! All those pouches & shoulder pads won't work live action...

Oh, and the Heroes Reborn Cap too- he was awful at drawing Cap. I was like, "they traded Waid & Garney for this?" lol But luckily that ended- but seriously, like you said they need to stop giving that guy books.

@winter_kills: Rob Liefeld is the worst thing to happen to Battlestar Galactica since Galactica '80 or Dirk Benedict had prostate cancer, whichever was more recent.

@winter_kills: at least his focus on the DP movie has kept him away from "drawing", I'm sure it won't last much longer though, maybe a few more months and he'll be back lowering sales :/
