Thanksgiving comes to the UK(along with Halloween)

The day before yesterday I read in the London "Evening Standard" ( Nov 25, 2014) that the practise of celebratingThanksgiving is beginning to spread beyond the American expatriate community- diplomats, military personnel, students, employees of US based chains such as Whole Foods et al) to the wider British society.

At first glance this seems absurd- who wants to eat turkey when Christmas is just a month or so away???- but as with Halloween, it seems to do no intrinsic harm- and besides you can always have lamb, goose or duck for Christmas rather than turkey!

I am aware that culture is not some kind of static entity( ie the so-called "jam jar" idea) but I for one have my reservations about this "monkey see monkey do" attitude based on the sensible attitude that Britain should not blindly imitate whatever America does( as one wag puts it "Britain always tends to follow America's worst habits!")

Anyway happy Thanksgiving to all my blog's readers!

Terry

PS what are you MOST thankful for? I for one am most grateful that God has allowed me to live to a ripe old age of 52( I was a premature baby), for St. Priscilla's spiritual support for me and for my good friend Julia Millard's platonic love and supportive friendship!
