How many females like comics??, it seems they are hiding.

  1. Alot of times, people think that the average comic book lover is a middle aged man with a beard a veteren/harley rider would envy, but with zero accomplishments.
    Is it possible to change the average image- to- maybe??? -intelligent, 20 something female, with a good self concept?. When can we come together and just enjoy the artwork people have spent their dedication on? When will the concept of both sexes coming together and not constrict towards one gender... Atleast thats the way it looks to me....

Truth.

and with comic book fans all being middle aged is just a bad stereotype.

And there you have it.

I was at the shop today and saw a young attractive girl picking up comics by herself. That was rare to see. Most time I see a girl in a comic shop she is just flipping through pages while her boyfriend picks up his weekly reads.

I know a few girls that are into comics. And most of them are pretty cute too. Granted none of them can really converse about them with the same, long winded passion and excitement I can. But most guys can't either. Hence my presence on comic forums. And I'm a late 20s, fairly attractive, popular guy.
And, more importantly, who the hell cares what other people think of us? We have passion and interests. What do those judgmental douchebags have?

Oh for the love of God, it's bad enough that non-comic readers stereotype us all as overweight 40 year old men who live in the basement of our parents' house.  We don't need to stereotype ourselves with this kind of nonsense.

Comic Vine is a prime example of how comic readers are incredibly diverse.  We have members from all over the world in many different continents.  The ages of our members ranges from young kids to parents & even grandparents.

As for "females", aside from the fact that we're "women", we aren't in the male dominated industry that it used to be.  Comic Vine has 3 lady moderators (myself included) and then there's Babs who is the public face of Comic Vine; a pretty young lady in her 20's and would trounce most fanboys with her Batman knowledge.

Don't think of other people as the same as you.

theres tons and theyve always been here.
my mother is actually the person who got me into comics
you must just not be noticing them.

 I do believe this photo represents a 3 to 1 ratio, and in the Golden Age nonetheless...

You really think those motorcycle riders envy my beard? Wow, I am so cool!
Um.. I mean... I am mortally offended by your outrageous stereotyping.

The comic book store that I go to is owned by a friendly, 30-something year old woman. I am a girl, won't reveal age, but I go there alone a lot and buy comics. Why is it that "only boys can like comics"?
Posted by xybernauts

Ouch, some of the posters on this thread are harsh. Retract the claws :) (And that statement was unisex)

 I don't think he meant to offend anyone.

also, I don't think reffering to women as "females" is the best way to go about garnishing their interest in this thread
female is a gender
and being that they are female human beings, they are women

my girlfriend, who's also on comicvine :-)

I don't know...I'm seeing a lot of comic reading females here on the vine and from what I've seen of them they're all pretty attractive....I don't think you can judge the amount of females reading comics based on what you see at the comic book store...you could be going in at the wrong times and completely missing them or they may not shop at that store...I worked at a comic book convention for a few years and saw tons of attractive females running around buying up comics and stuff.....or maybe it's you

Thanx for the input, i didnt mean to offend anyone-this is a prime example i was looking to show my friends that there is a light on the otherside of the tunnel. Some People in my life wouldnt believe that everyone can enjoy the emotions and art found in the wild world of comics... Women and men can equally share their own reflections found on any paper back- i always enjoyed peoples reaction and i thank everyone who commented positive/negative..
THANK YOU!!
This was my first attempt at a blog! pretty psyched..

Every last one of my girl friends read and love comics. My store is always full of women.

@Icarusflies: @xerox-kitty: @Soph573:   I am 100% for attractive woman comic readers.  I always wanted to meet a girl who was into my hobbies instead of looking at me like a freak.  I'm not a freak.....I'm a nerd and proud of it.    I would like to tell anyone I like comics without them looking at me as if I'm idiot.  Oh, and again I am 100% in support of attractive woman comic readers.

maybe you're putting too much emphasis on the attractive part of the equation
a self-proclaimed nerd such as yourself who gets looked at like a freak by girls, probably shouldn't be so picky or critical

This is true. Misery loves company. Get used to it, hahaha

I also just broke 3000, boo yah

@Shadowdoggy:    I emphasized 100% not attractive.  That is why it was in bold and underlined.  I just used the word Attractive because previous posters used it to describe themselves.  All in all it was an obvious joke but ,thanks for the diss.  You must be popular as well.

@texasdeathmatch:  What????

@Liberty: I think he means 3000 posts.

@Liberty: Um, without trying to sound insensitive, ugly people tend to date ugly people, just like fat people tend to date fat people. There are a few rare cases, like me, for example. Because fat chicks can't get enough of me, no matter how hard I try to avoid them. Its my power...its my curse.
Posted by Shadowdoggy
@Liberty:
and how did I diss you?
I basically restated exactly what you said and added the words picky and critical
don't post things you don't want people to react to
and don't start crap, dude

all aged and types
and it's funny, because I'm always trying to guess "buying a gift....or getting their fix?"

@Liberty: Yeah, I see what you're saying with telling people you like comics without them teasing you. But I wouldn't worry about that, because the best part is, nerds are totally in these days. And of course most hot girls aren't going to be into comics (I'm going to go out on a limb and say MOST hot girls, since I know some of the "girls" on this site are actually fat dudes with hairy backs), but you gotta get your nerd charm on. Chicks dig that shit, just don't get too geeky. Start the conversation with how unbalanced Starcraft races are, and end it with how bad Romo's performance was against the Chiefs last weekend. You'll get her in no time

@Shadowdoggy:   OK, I'm not a jerk but I need to grow up.  So in summation I need to grow up, I'm too picky, and critical and apparently I start stuff on comic forums where it is not needed.  You are full of sage advise thank you.  I will try to do better.

I don't think I've met a girl in real life who reads comics.

@texasdeathmatch:   I was only using self deprecating humor to make a joke.  It was suppose to be funny.  I guess I'm getting rusty.  (read my stand up comic blog called, stinky comics.  The funny thing is I've gotten as many posts as the poor guy who wrote this forum.

@Liberty:
yes
this post is evidence of your need to grow up
and yes
by saying you would like a girl who doesn't look at you like a freak and shares common interests in the same post as saying how you're 100% ok with attractive female comic fans and reviewers is proof of your overly picky and critical nature towards women
and yes
I'm a sage adivce giver
actually, I'm just a sage
so if you'll excuse me, I have to go lead a group of my followers through the woods as I impart to them my wisdom and stories of days long past

Yeah, well coming from this site, that joke could have easily been mistaken for someone telling the truth. I'll check out your stinky comics though, is there a link?

Really? with all the manga you've read and the anime you've watched I'm surprised.

Here in Brazil is very rare to find a comic fan girl.
I´ve never met one in my life.
I´ve seen girls that like Monica´s Gang, Disney and
some Manga, but not comics.
