The idea of Spidey tackling Batman's rogues gallery was always a little idea in my head. While the web head wouldn't (and SHOULDN'T) handle it like Batman, I know Spidey could do it.

I didn't mean guilt really. I mean more so a feel of: Ock as he lay dying rethinks his life and the horrid legacy he leaves behind, when he just wanted to be remembered as a great mind. Peter being forced to watch a man, his arch-enemy, dying in front of him tells Otto that he left behind one good legacy: The promise that he himself will be a better Spider-Man. So Ock bequeaths his legacy to Peter with his dying breath. So Peter ups his arsenal with Ock's tech and swings in the light of a new day as a "Superior Spider-Man".
Again not angsty but just trying to honor a fallen man who has had an effect on his life from almost day one. Keeping an optimistic tone and a show of the hero truly valuing life of everyone, even the villains.
Now I'm going to be fair here. If you like the story this is not an attack on you. This is not an attack on Dan Slott (Death threats? Seriously?). I know Peter will be back eventually (I give Superior 3 more years tops). I find the idea of the bad guy stealing the hero's life interesting. But...
SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN IS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF *&!% TAKEN ON THE SPIDER-MAN BOOKS SINCE ONE MORE DAY!
First is the issue of Ock himself. Some people like him and I cannot understand why. The man is being held in the light of a "hero" when, in order to get this far, HE MURDERED A MAN AND STOLE HIS LIFE! Now a good story would explore the hypocritical nature of this, compare Ock with the legacy he has stripped Peter Parker of. However Ock is presented as always being in the right, always being correct and being better than Peter. People love the "new edgy dark" Spider-Man (even J.J., great rip off Ultimate Spider-Man, that's a smart move). This seems like something that would come out of the Dark Age of comics. Next is that Ock pursuing ANY romantic relationship with ANYONE is under false pretenses, and Ock is smart enough to know this, but he does it anyway. Next is the fact that Ock has Riker's Island as a base and an army of robots and minions (MINIONS!) along with having most of the city wired. All of New York City is 3 centimeters away from turning into Ock's personal POLICE STATE! Next is Ock's behavior. There are times where Ock seems like he should be letting out an evil laugh like during Smyth's death. The artwork doesn't really help. Lastly is a personal preference but Ock has turned Spidey into a murderer. Spider-Man does not kill... not intentionally...
Next is the fact that all the characters around Ock are MORONS! Mary Jane gets it the worst (once again Marvel raping her character). MJ has detected much more talented impersonators (Chameleon anyone? A f*^%ing MASTER OF DISGUISE!) almost immediately. Granted Ock is in Pete's body and has access to his memories but the second Ock murdered someone (with a GUN no less) she should have known it wasn't Peter immediately. Next is the Avengers. Now these guys have been possessed, impersonated, gone off the deep end, and been VICTIMS to body switches themselves. Yet while they are intent on finding out if something is wrong with Peter, and yet they DON'T CALL THE SMARTER AVENGERS WHO MAY KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG! That's like knowing your friend needs his appendix removed and then doing it yourselves when you have various surgeons on speed dial. The Avengers never thought of calling Dr. Strange or an Asgardian sorcerer to get an immediate magic scan on "Peter" (pretty sure magic trumps science). The reason they don't do so the first chance they get is "we wouldn't have a story" which in my opinion is a sign that the story is bad.
Next as mentioned above: BODY SWITCHING IS AN ESTABLISHED PART OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE. Dr. Doom did it to Mr. Fantastic, Cassandra Nova did it to Professor X, Emma Frost did it to Storm, She Hulk accidently did it to one of her friends, Loki did it to Thor, Red Skull did it to Captain America (TWICE) and most damning of all PSYLOCK IS STILL RUNNING AROUND IN KWANNON'S BODY! You would think all Peter would have to do is tell a random SHIELD agent "I'm Spider-Man. Body Switch. HELP!" and they should have at least looked into it. Making the entire set up of the series an IDIOT PLOT.
And lastly is Peter himself. Or rather the utter character assassination of Peter. Spider-Man, when written well, is intelligent and ingenuitive. While I disagree with Slott's elevating Spidey to Mr. Fantastic levels of smart, you would think the guy fluent in techno-babble enough to just say "I'm in Ock's body. Help!" But intelligence aside, Peter Parker is a hero. The ONLY person who rivals Peter as the "hero protagonist" of the Marvel U is CAPTAIN AMERICA. And yet Peter, to save his own skin, threatened a little girl... This is not the Spider-Man who defended Hobgoblin from Doppelganger, who charged on a suicide run against Thanos, who was as horrified by 9/11 as any real person, who let the Hulk escape the Avengers, who defended CARNAGE from Venom. This is all done just to make Ock look good. Slott killed the character as iconic as Batman just to set up Ock as the newer, better hero.
Peter's death, was for the benefit of Ock. Peter was shoved aside solely for Ock to be set up. The death was more about Octavius than Peter. All I have to say about that is: Spider-Man's death was worse then Captain Kirk's. I know that may be blasphemous to say since Kirk's death invented the term/trope "Dropped a Bridged On Him". But Star Trek Generations at least tried to suck Kirk's D*!$ rather than bite it off so it could be attached to another character, a villain no less.
That's what I think is so bad with Superior Spider-Man. (Oh well, at least now I have a Spidey that I think Drake Bell would be a better VA then Josh Keaton.)
I'd actually like to see Peter very effected by Ock's death. Perhaps taking some of Ock's tech to upgrade his own, playing a bit smarter but still being the great hero we know and love. (Plus he keeps the classic suit but with the "Superior" eyes and back spider). But that's just me.
