Top of the Pile

These are the books I cannot wait to read on Wednesday. I ordered these books but realistically they all have me almost equally. I am heavily into other books right now so this list will be in flux over time, so consider this a snap shot of what I like the most out of the comics world right now.

List items

  • I like many have fallen for Vaughan and Staples compelling story telling. Its equally beautiful to read as it is to look at. They have created a world I've wanted to learn more of from the start. If this isn't on your pull list, you should consider changing that.

  • This book proves every month that in the right hands a character that did well in the background can shine in the spotlight. Fraction, Aja and Hollingsworth combine to a truly unique, not quite superhero, superhero experience.

  • Wade continues to impress me every issue. I started reading this series not believing all the hype could be true. I was mistaken, even when I tried to not like it. The story that is being told is a rarity seen these days. It is about the build with payoff along the way leaving you in awe of previous facts you've previously discarded, all to have meaning in much later issues.

  • Meet Fraction and the Alreds. Reading this books is like a memory of all the things I enjoyed about comics growing up. I originally purchased the first issue by it mistakenly being in my pull list. This was one of my better accidents in recent history.

  • Between Snyder and Capullo this book has quickly become my definition of Batman. Like Kevin Conroy voicing Batman in my head, Snyder's words and Capullo's art define the Batman I know and love.

  • In Dan Slott I trust. I grew up with Peter Parker as one of my best friends. I also then by default grew up with Doc Oc as a bitter enemy. Despite this fact, I am truly enthralled by what Slott is doing here and, even if I want Peter back, I want to know WWOD(What Would Octavius Do)?

  • I always found Nightwing to be a cool character but never one I would think about beyond a Batman title. Kyle Higgins has drastically changed that for me. The current story arc is building to something I'm excited for but, more importantly, it's building to something that at this point I am unable to see which can be a rarity for mainstream books.

  • Snyder and Murphy easily have established this as a go to read within the first few pages of the book. There is a real sense of suspense from every page turn and they make it a pleasure to sit back and just go with it.

  • Bendis has done something that originally I never thought would be possible for me. He killed off Peter Parker, created a new Spider-man and I wouldn't have it any other way (for the ultimate universe of course). This is another book that takes what I have always loved about comics and puts in in a handheld package every week.

  • This was a surprise to me. I've enjoyed a few of the Valiant relaunches but something caught me with this one. I love having fun with comics and this book does not shy away from that. It is early in the series but this is something that quickly jumped into my favorites and I can't wait to read what is coming next.
