I am a GA fan because Ollie is a guy who wants to find real answers to social problems, and not just address them as needed. In many ways I see him as the humanizing factor in the JLA. Ollie is a great hero and human being. He is strong and self-sufficient, but not self-centered, with a sense of true social justice. He is one of the toughest and bravest heroes, willing to put himself in harm’s way to help his partners (he let Deathstroke beat the crap out of him to give others time to take him down in Identity Crisis, sacrificed himself for Dinah and the JLA during Final crisis, and temporarily overcame the influence of the black ring to help save Dinah and his kids in Blackest night). Ollie is never given the credit he deserves, but he also doesn't really care. He has learned from the mistakes of his youth and is a much better man and father today than he was a few years ago. He's a very human and yet still idealized figure, one that we can look up to he stands for a swath of values across the entire spectrum. As for his undesirable qualities, i.e. the cheating, and lying, that just goes to show one thing. That he is a human being that makes mistakes. Of course we could fault him for that, but all-in-all I don’t think that it is fair for him to be criticized for making human mistakes, being as that is what he is and all. Despite him always being made out to be this bad guy, he is always willing to help someone in need. He understands that true world and the ideal world are not the same things and that some concessions must be made, much to the chagrin of those who do not want to acknowledge that fact. Because he can make the decisions other cannot, he is thought of as a bad guy, as opposed to a great leader, which is what he really is.
