Why are they still talking about this? I mean, it was funny for a bit, but I'm starting to think they actually mean it. Which would be silly, because nobody is in the business of throwing money away, and when you go "darker, edgier" about something it's semi-ironic code for "we don't know what the hell went wrong".

I did care about the Ultimateverse until the whole Ultimatum mess. Right now it would take more than a rather gimmicky race swap to make it alright again.

Also, I'm kind of torn about the relevance of the whole deal. See, in my head them going with a black kid is so superfluous that it doesn't warrant the whole "we've killed Peter Parker" thing. On the other hand, if you stop to think about it, yeah, it's kinda big... because in comics it's all still white guys sculpted in marble. So, strangely enough, by being relevant this only kind of points out how irrelevant superhero comic books have come to be in many ways.

I don't know if I'm making this clear. The fact that I went "oh, crap, we DO need somebody to make the statement that a black superhero doesn't need the word "black" in his name" only made me think less of the superhero scene, rather than get encouraged because Marvel had the balls to go there with a triple A (ok, Ultimate triple A, which is probably two As only, but still) property.

I paid for Marvel's service for a year. After nine months I sent them a letter to complain about how the last issues of each story arc were never uploaded in due time, which was either a gross oversight or a rather dumb attempt to make me go find the trades. I got a non-answer about how it was not intentional and they sorted out their priorities to attract new readers and provide the most demanded comic books.

I told them they had until my one year subscription expired to get their shit together or I was out.

I'm out now.

Also, since it's a subscription based service, I don't have any digital Marvel Comics now. At all.

I think I don't like this media as a service thing much.

Supes just doesn't work, Batman is a bit too movie-inspired and everybody else is mercifully untouched.

So meh.

But Superman really, really doesn't work. I wonder if there's any element at all from the upcoming movie in that. Because I get how filmmakers would be scared to go with the "speedo over your pants" look again, but removing that just breaks the costume every time. Takes it from iconic to "generic superhero".

Hm.

So glad I kind of stopped caring before Ultimatum.

I mean, randomly killing a major superhero in a desperate attempt to lure former fans back in? So nineties...

Well, the fact that American superhero comic books are creatively bankrupt might or might not have something to do with it.

But hey, maybe not.

Since Ultimatum a lot of readers have been reading something else.

And good for us.

Just saying.

I stopped reading in Ultimatum and this is not making me want to go back.

Seriously, I get that is the main thing you think of in comic books, "let's kill such and such", and I get that it gets readers back on the books because people write articles like this.

But not with my money. Because it's a crappy strategy, even when it's decently written (and all of the Ultimate Deaths haven't been). So nope. No support from me.

USM 1-100 is still one of my favourite comic book runs ever, and I'm not even bothered by the new movie at all, I think it could be a pretty cool direction to go. It's just good things end.

They pee their pants. All the time. Like marathon runners or cyclists. I thought we all assumed that.

They left the wings in the costume.

I can't believe they put the little wings there, even if they're painted on. Those were ridiculous to begin with, every major redesign cut them off. It's kind of the opposite of the Spider-Man thing, where they completely ravaged the suit, it's being close to the material to the point of breaking suspension of disbelief.

Oh, well... It's easily the goofiest-looking Marvel movie yet, but I'll still give it a go. At this point I feel I'm commited to this thing all the way up to The Avengers, even if the films suck.
