Why I think Rocksteady/WGM are working on a Superman game

DC and Time Warner/WB said they are going to be zoning new DC franchises as they start to expand their gaming enterprise. In the interview, they had already referenced the Arkham games as one of their three major gaming franchises. The keyword here is "new". Meaning that they are going to explore other DC heroes for gaming opportunities, and that they would be announced in the coming months. This is the perfect timetable set up for Rocksteady's unannounced game.

In another interview with Geoff Johns, he clarified that they have been talking around the office about how to bring Superman to the gaming medium. They thought about adapting John's stories birthright and Last Son as a plot for the game. The key thing in this interview is that they never said it would be hard to design, or create, but the only problem would be how they can create a story to put him against all of his powerful enemies. This should be enough info to confirm that a Superman game will be coming our way soon.

Various interviews were conducted in an attempt to see if a good Superman game was possible. People from WBGM and Rocksteady were both questioned and their answers were very surprising. Eric Holmes from WBGM said that he thinks a great Superman game is possible and that he believes one is going to come by soon. When another employee and game director from WBGM was interviewed, he was giving all types of game ideas as an answer and stated that they have many things they can play with. This should give an idea that they have been talking about it, and have been planning for it. In the same interview Rocksteady stated that they said it is possible and they believe they could actually do it. When asked if they were gonna do it, all they said was "I don't know, we'll have to see". Judging by the words he used, I'd bet they have planned it already, and WB told them to make it. At the time the Man of Steel was already announced, so it isn't too far fetched to believe that a Superman game was given to Rocksteady.

In several interviews with Rocksteady themselves, they have said numerous times that they wouldn’t turn down the opportunity at making a video game for another hero, and have actually expressed interest in Superman.

A few years ago in an interview with Warner Bros UK President Josh Berger, he told people that he was glad to have bought the majority of Rocksteady and hopes that “going forward they will work on other Warner intellectual properties”. There have been notions about a new IP being made at Rocksteady, so who’s to say it isn’t DC. And who’s to say it isn’t Superman?

In an interview with eurogamer.net, it was revealed that Warner Games Montreal would work on several NEW DC IP’s. In the interview they discussed the future of movie tie-ins, and said that the time for that was over. After what Rocksteady had done, quality has become their main priority, and that there would be no rush to complete a game in time for the movie release. At the time Man of Steel was already revealed to be in production and Zack Snyder was already attached on to direct. A Superman game could have already been in development once all of that was announced.

On FatmanonBatman, Paul Dini talked about his upcoming projects. One of which he described as a videogame with Rocksteady Studios, and that he couldn’t talk about it yet. After the release of Arkham City, Dini was interviewed about where he wanted to go next, and thoroughly expressed his interest in a Superman game. He said he really wanted to do it, and who better to write a story than him? After denying reports of working on another videogame, he let it slip that he was actually finishing up work on one and had to keep quiet about it.

During the time of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight rebranding, the Arkham games took place. After the release of Batman Begins and TDK, Arkham Asylum came out. It was a total reinvention of Batman going on at DC, and something similar is going on with Superman at the moment. When Nolan was creating the Batman movies, there was a demand for an awesome batman game. Ever since Arkham City came out, there has been a cry for a new Superman game made, and since the Man of Steel hit theaters, the voice for a new superman game has grown exponentially.

One of the most important pieces of information I found was in an interview with Rocksteady after they had a majority stake bought out by Warner. Founder Sefton Hill said that the “Rocksteady team is very much looking forward to creating more great games based on widely recognized Warner Bros. brands like Batman.” I feel like this would be evidence enough to say that they are indeed working on a new IP for the next gen consoles to further expand their gaming library. In the same interview Josh Berger (who I mentioned earlier) went on to say that they are excited to “continue working closely with them as they further expand their gaming portfolio.” This is the same person mentioned earlier who hoped that Rocksteady would work on different IP’s for them in DC.

I firmly believe that a Superman game is in the works. The demand for one has grown over the years, and there isn't a better time than now. Rocksteady is capable of doing it, and they have the passion for DC lore to make it a success.
