Am I the only one more excited for Batman v. Superman than for Civil War? I mean Age of Ultron was a disappointment and I'm kinda getting tired of Marvel's formulaic films...

what's the formula?

Usually it's show off a bunch of stuff within the first 15 minutes of the movie, which pretty much tells you that it's going to have a major part to play throughout the movie. It's usually just step by step stuff, not much surprise. Still like them though, but it does kind of get meh after awhile.

.... This post explained nothing and practically described every movie ever. Can someone please elaborate on this fabled "Marvel Formula"

Origin Story Formula:

Opening: "oh this person is irresponsible/inadequate and will never be a superhero."

Later: *inspiration from minor character/father figure leads to heroism*

-----------------Dramatic Super-Suit Reveal--------------------

Middle: "oh no, the villain (who is an ideological mirror-image of hero with an identical powerset) cannot be stopped!"

End: "It's the only way." *Hero attempts to sacrifice self to defeat bad guy* "But you'll die" (Doesn't actually die).

Team Movie Formula:

Opening: Humorous assembly of the characters, banter. Roles are established ("Funny guy," "Strong guy," "Brains of the operation.")

Middle: They let each other down in some way. Disband. Broken.

End: They reunite around some common goal and one-liners to win the day.

Yes, it applies to lots of movies, but you'd have to be blind to miss the formula.
