My Thoughts on post-Secret Wars books

We finally get to see the books that will be coming out after Secret Wars... And holy ish, there are a lot of exciting announcements and creative teams behind these books.

(Take a look at the enormous list of Marvel series coming out post-Secret Wars at the very end of article)

Spider-Man 2099 will have Peter David back writing which is a huge plus for me. I think Miguel O'hara's new suit looks cool, but I prefer his original outfit over this one any day.

Spider-Woman is super pregnant on the preview cover. Since the events of Secret Wars are supposedly taking 8 months later, I assume her relaunched series will begin after her pregnancy. Also, just because she is pregnant on the preview cover, doesn't mean she is ACTUALLY pregnant. Covers can be misleading in the world of comic books, so for all I know, she could've adopted an infant. But who knows. If she really did have a baby, who is the father? Is it someone from her previous run? The Last Days story arc hasn't begun yet by the time this blog is posted.

Staying along the list of the Spider-Man characters, Peter Parker will be in Amazing Spider-Man as well as part of the Avengers Unity Squad in Uncanny Avengers. Parker will be having a new status quo and will be on a global scale. Meanwhile Miles Morales will be the main Spidey in New York. This makes sense and makes me happy.

Speaking of new status quo's, Angela will be the Queen of Hel apparently. Gotta wonder what debt had to be paid.

Daredevil by Charles Soule is a huge win for me. Soule being a lawyer and having a consistent track records of great story arcs and series, this makes me happy. I'm a big fan of Soule's writing. I loved his Red Lanterns and She Hulk series. I think he will do just fine with Daredevil. I also love his black costume. Sure it's reminiscent from the TV series, but I'm not complaining.

Howling Commandos of SHIELD seems like a fun book. I liked the different incarnations of the Howling Commandos from Marvel, so this gives me some nostalgic feelings. Kinda wish Shiklah aka Mrs. Deadpool was part of the team.

Random Thought: I wonder if Shiklah and Deadpool will split up post-Secret Wars?

James Robinson will be writing both Scarlet Witch and Squadron Supreme. I'm not the biggest fan of either Scarlet Witch or Squadron Supreme but I've been reading Robinson's work since when he was over at DC Comics so I'll give them a chance. I think Scarlet Witch is a good character, but I'm not really a fan of hers. It will be interesting to see Robinson characterize her. I kinda hope for something along the line of how her character was in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. For Squadron Supreme, Johnathan Hickman's Hyperion will be leading the team which is a huge plus for me.

Guardians of the Galaxy will have a female Star-Lord (probably Kitty Pryde) with Rocket Raccoon being the leader this time around. It makes sense for Peter Quill to step down as the leader of the team for a while because he was crowned the Emperor of Spartax. Also, The Thing will be on the team for this volume of Guardians of the Galaxy. I can see why he will be part of the team. Ever since Bendis began his run on Guardians of the Galaxy, the team made an agreement with the Avengers that the Guardians should have a temporary position on the team to be consisted of rotating heroes. For instance, Tony Stark was the first temporary member, then Agent Venom (who has now been upgraded to permanent?), and Captain Marvel. Since the Fantastic Four won't have a series out (team disbanded?), it seems as if Ben Grimm helps fill that rotating-temporary part. Also, where is Gamora??

Speaking of Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax the Destroyer will be written by CM Punk and Cullen Bunn. I guess we will see what Drax is up to in his personal time when he is not hanging out with his teammates. My guess: fighting as the Best in the Galaxy. We'll see what CM Punk can thrash with Drax.

For Venom: Spaceknight, it makes me think that they will capture the same feel of ROM: Spaceknight. I miss ROM... please come back.

The last 2 that I want to talk about are Uncanny Avengers and the main Avengers book (All-New, All-Different Avengers or the AWAD Avengers for short?). The main Avengers will consist of Iron Man, Sam Wilson as Captain America, Jane Foster's Thor, and Vision, with the new teenage additions of Nova and Ms. Marvel. We've seen how the team will be like in the 2015 Free Comic Book Day issue but for the Uncanny Avengers, a lot of people are in the mix about the roster members, mainly with Spider-Man and Deadpool being on the same team. I can understand why people would get upset and annoyed by this, but for me as a Spider-Man and Deadpool fan, I am all in. Plus Gerry Duggan is writing this, so I am excited to see where this book goes. This team is suppose to be a symbol of unity of all different types of heroes to show the world that it doesn't matter who or what you are. Everyone is equal. This roster now consists of

  • a mutant - Rogue
  • an anti-hero - Deadpool
  • an android - Human Torch
  • a mystic superhero - Brother Voodoo
  • a typical superhero - Spider-Man, Peter Parker
  • a mutant/genetically modified/unknown label hero - Quicksilver
  • an Inhuman (if that masked lady turns out to be Daisy Johnson) - Quake
  • with Steve Rogers being the leader of the Avengers Unity Squad.

Anyways, that's it for my random ramblings and thoughts. For the upcoming books that I didn't talk about, it doesn't mean that I am not interested, it's just that I don't really have much thoughts except for curiosity and whether or not I can bend my wallet to pick up these extra titles. Thanks for reading guys! Take care and happy reading!
