Oh, The Stories I Can Tell You 0

I can't say how much it thrills me to say this: I found literally nothing wrong with this issue. It had everything that I love about comics and everything that made me want to read comics in the first place years and years ago. Spider-Man is maybe my favorite character, and after the slight let-down of Spider-Island (though I did like its resolution and the things it changed for all of its crazy confusing plotting) it's great to get back on track. Let's get into the specifics:Great Power: Let's ...

Avengers Academy Presents: How to Drop the Ball 0

I'm bummed to say it, but there's a real shortage of good teen books out there. With DC's current mishandling of Teen Titans, I had (and in some ways, still have) high hopes for Avengers Academy. The concept...well, it wasn't the best, but the new characters were interesting to say the least. Hitting Fear Itself, to me it came across as one of the more successful tie-ins, even if it was slightly uneven. The kids reacting to the war was fun to read. Now, faced with the aftermath, where some good ...

Well Think'ed Out 0

After having little background experience with the Flash (at least outside of the group dynamic in the Justice League), I found issue #1 to be the surprise issue of the New 52 that I enjoyed. I'd even hazard to say, at this point, it's second only to the amazing work the J.H. Williams and W. Haden Blackman are shooting into the stars over on Batwoman. After setting the bar high at the beginning, the second issue does not disappoint.Flash Facts: I am in love with this art. The backdrops make me f...

Underground and Underwhelmed 1

I have to preface this review with this: Teen Titans #1, with Superboy, Robin, Wonder Girl, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Kid Flash, and Starfire, was the first comic book that I ever read. And I fell in love with it. Head over heels. All of the characters were compelling. The dialogue was realistic, the characters were developing amazingly, and the art...just wow. That being said, I do have some ramped up expectations for this book, especially considering the build-up that it has received on this site wit...

Best Plan Ever. 0

Seeing as my second review is of yet another Buffy title (or spin-off, whatever), I might be overkilling it a bit on the Buffyverse focus. Hopefully that speaks more for my qualifications to review these titles; I know my stuff. That being said, my knowledge came in handy on this one. It draws references to episodes to Angel, Buffy, and (obviously) Season 8. Overall, I can say I enjoyed it, but I'm having trouble recommending it. Let's break it down:Five by Five (the Good): Let's start with the ...

This is Fun and Responsible! 0

Before I start, I have to admit it: Despite my long-standing love for all things Buffyverse, I was not the biggest fan of Season 8. There were parts that I loved (Xander and Dawn, Faith and Giles) and parts that made no sense to me at all (oh, Angel, how you let me down...), but overall the season did not really feel like a season. The plot ran away from its roots and into the stratosphere to a point where many readers just couldn't follow any longer. That being said, this intro issue took the o...
