I still don't understand how Yakone's family can bloodbend without the full moon. Is that because they are extremely powerful?

Amon was one of my favorite villians of all time for most of the season, but i feel like i don't even understand him anymore. 
so Amon is supposed to be all obsessed with equality and fairness right? that's like his whole gig 
but when Tarrlok is telling Korra the story, he said that Noahtak 'reveled in his newfound power' when there father taught them bloodbending
and Noahtak looked down on Tarrlok for being weak when he didnt want to abandon there mom 
 
i just dont really understand Amon/Noahtak and his motivation anymore. all these things about him just seem contradictory... 
can anybody else figure this out?

ive been researching nightwing because he interests me. one of the things that interests me most about him is why he split off from batman. 
everybody says its because he had a disagreement with bruce and his methods. ive tried researching him to find more details on what happened and what they disagreed over, but i cant find anything other "dick thought it was time to grow up and he didn't need batman anymore, so he became nightwing" and all that. 
 
but come on. for the original boy wonder to split off from his partnership with the dark knight, there has to be more to the story than that. 
 
what did dick and bruce disagree over? why was it so severe that dick made such a major life change?
