What if Daredevil turned vigilante after Born Again?

After seeing the events of Shadowland, I remembered another Daredevil storyline known as Born Again (1986) where our beloved Guardian of Hells Kitchen was forced into the streets and testing Daredevil’s code of heroism. Even though Frank Miller displayed the harshness that Daredevil was forced into because of the Kingpin, What if? What if Daredevil did take the wrong path as a vigilante because of the events of Born Again?

Unlike Spiderman who was tested in various ways because of Uncle Bens death, Daredevil takes his costumed role for his dedication for justice under the guidance of his deceased father, to personally ensure that Justice is successful on bringing down criminals as both hero and in the courts. When encountering the Punisher, we would also get to see an opposite of Daredevils morals and beliefs about the Justice system and how it works.

Then comes Daredevils greatest challenge, the Kingpin. In a “What If?” scenario after the events of Born Again, what would happen if Daredevil did start killing criminals who eluded the Justice System? Seeing his cause and morals hopeless and that the only way to do what’s right as a hero is to take the same path as the Punisher.

Possibly leading a much more darker and violent path that could gain some attention from readers who are witnessing the once beloved hero spiraling out of control in upcoming events that involve the deaths of Bullseye, Kingpin, other costumed and non-costumed criminals, battling various heroes who try to help Murdock overcome his anger and grief, and also catching more attention from the Punisher.

Anyways we would never know, but it may be more interesting to see this darker version of Daredevil in Brubaker’s hands after what he showed us with his prior storytelling in the Daredevil series.
