Yeeeeeahhhhh... I read the new Batman Annual and I have to admit the story would have been just fine if it wasn't Mr. Freeze. That story was insanely unnecessary and it felt like an alternate universe slap in the face to an origin that was cleaned up nicely by BTAS.

  1. Man of Steel - I don't want Amy Adams...miscast, plus I hate her acting...but since that ain't gonna happen I'll just settle for a movie without any kryptonite
  2. Batman - What I want is a guy who is human...and everyone knows it but yet won't show it...plus a few super powered criminals
  3. Wonder Woman - Just follow the Wonder Woman animated movie formula and it will do just fine
  4. Green Lantern - Have it follow my movie formula 3/4 source material 1/4 your own...if it had followed what I just stated it would have been great
  5. The Flash - First off it should be Barry Allen...2nd follow his classic origin from the comics...that'll hook everyone
  6. Aquaman - Black Manta as villain...and everything just follows comics(except for that 1/4)
  7. Martian Manhunter - He does need a movie(though certain powers should be removed and/or weakened) and I would have the plot be him going to Earth to warn us humans about a White Martian Invasion
Seriously the formula 3/4 source material, 1/4 new is a tried and tested formula...a few notable movies that followed the formula are: Fellowship of the Ring, Batman Begins amongst many others. Green Lantern should have a sequel it wasn't bad and the mistakes can be corrected in the sequel. People are willing to give it a 2nd thought and I'm just waiting for it to come out so I can buy the ticket.

I think we've seen Batman about as human as humanly possible. I hope the next thing involving Batman goes in the complete opposite direction. I think establishing Bruce Wayne as what I like to call a human anomaly or natures’ natural answer to the superhero (or meta, mutant, alien). A guy who we’d like to think we can become if we work out and get enough money but will probably never reach because Mr. Wayne is far too naturally talented. Put some Stark-like toys around him (i.e. holograms, and back up suits of armor just NO WHERE near as flashy). Similar to what they did Loeb, Morrison and Snyder did in the comics. Think Batman meets Mission Impossible (specifically ‘Ghost Protocol’). For those fans like the guy from the Batman on Film site (Jett) that would say “but what if he gets injured or too old he’s only human”… simple answer in the new DCU on film… Lazarus Pits (and other such rejuvenation plot devices that Batman just so happens to fall into annually) exist. Batman should also be the guy that communicates with all of the top good guy brains and influential people of the world. All in secret. Kind of his network of humans in case these supernatural beings wanna overrun the planet. Then you get name drops like Ray Palmer, Micheal Holt, Ted Kord, Oliver Queen, Steve Trevor, Dinah Lance etc. Batman would be the superhero Nick Fury.

With WB/DC saying they would be reinventing Batman after The Dark Knight Rises, I've realized that translating comic book characters (especially ones from the DCU) can be a bit difficult. Part of the difficulty lies in the film makers willingness to please the fans about certain things (or everything i.e Green Lantern) by staying "true" to the characters and fans unwillingness to let go.

My question to the fans is this: at what point is the line between film maker creative control and pleasing the fans drawn?

In this topic I give you a few film properties from DC that I think would lead to a Justice League film. Your task as fans is to give your opinion on what you think you simply can't live without and what you're willing to let go:

Example: Blue Beetle. Need it: Jamie Reyes and a mention of Ted Kord. Let go: Scarab being magical (it can be an artificial intelligence i.e. Young Justice).

Thanks for your opinions.

  • Superman- Man of Steel is being released next year, what do you hope to see? A mention of the DCU perhaps?
  • Batman- After Rises, how do you want the WB/DC to reinvent the Dark Knight? More of a human anomaly like Morrison has suggested?
  • Wonder Woman- I like What Azzarello is doing honestly. What take on Diana should hit the big screen?
  • Green Lantern- With Green Lantern barely making budget, what can enhance this fledgling franchise?
  • The Flash- Silver Age origin? TV series origin tweaked to film? Geoff Johns modern take (murdered mom/framed father)? Wally West?
  • Aquaman- What goes, what stays?
  • Martian Manhunter- Should he even get a film?
  • Justice League-

I wanna say Cyborg but at least he's been of some use. If a member of the League seems pointless then it's the writers job to utilize their abilities and give reasoning to that characters membership. That's what I don't get about John's run so far. We know the line up is there because these are DC's most iconic etc. BUT John's should be giving them threats that utilize their importance on the team. I laughed when Aquaman became a member of this new incarnation because... something landed in the water and the League just so happened to be there when Aquaman hops out and says "Dropped something, chums?" or something like that.

The Justice League movie needs a director that can deliver in sci fi, action, epic, genre films with large ensemble casting:

Justice League- Directed by Peter Jackson, David Yates, or Ridley Scott

The roster needs to be diverse and full of chemistry potential:

Superman- Henry Caville

Batman- ?

Wonder Woman- Bridget Regan

Hal Jordan- Ryan Reynolds or Chris Pine

John Stewart- ?

Barry Allen- Bradley Cooper

Aquaman- Luke Hemsworth

Mera- Elena Santine

Martian Manhunter- ?

Vixen- Zoe Saldana

This X-Men thing is not the first gay marriage. DC/Wildstorm did that back in the day with Midnighter and Apollo. It's the first time the media has made a big hype about it though. I don't see what the big deal is, it's just two b-list characters getting hitched. It's just hyped because they're gay.
