Sentry is a mortal with incredible power... but he isn't a God. Nor does he have the experience of Thor. Thor is IMMORTAL... Sentry isn't. Even if Thor was bested in the first round he would continue to come back until he'd learned how to take Sentry down.
History of comics has shown - those with more heart eventually win the day (especially over agoraphobic schizophrenics).
I've read everything Hulk related since child-hood... including Skaar. I had my doubts at first, but once the Surfer showed up things started to pick up.
