So instead of my preferred options of Black Canary - ok she's tied up with BOP- and Zatanna (I thought the excuse for her omission was fairly lame) we have a female Atom and Element Woman. Let'' s see how it goes :D

PS: Does anyone know if Shazam is going to be joining the JL once his back up series concludes -and if so would it be as well as or instead of Superman?

Why wasn't John chosen for the new JLA instead of Simon (WHO??) Baz?

That was a long stint!! :D

I don't think so for one moment. Recent events might push him to the edge in many areas but it won't tip him over in the violence stakes

Does there have to be a new Robin? I don't think so - certainly not in a hurry. Surely Batman would think long and hard before taking another sidekick?

@ccraft: no rule that says she can't be part of both. Besides she was in the last Justice League issue

Apparently everyone in this forum thinks a team can only have their token female and that's that

That was certainly the case in the 60's when the JLA had Wonder Woman (then replaced her with Black Canary) the Avengers had the Wasp, the Doom Patrol had Elasti - girl, the Teen Titans Wonder Girl, the X-Men Marvel Girl and the FF Invisible Woman. Thankfully times have changed since then and we are getting a more even gender balance in team books. Hopefully the League will get some more female members; Zatanna, Black Canary and Hawkgirl / woman would do for me

People buying JLA and Justice League should be ashamed of themselves.

Why? I'm not saying you're not entitled to hold the opinion you quote, but can you give any reasons why you feel this way? You don't like the concept of the League, or the stories or artwork aren't what you expected? Can you give some constructive criticism of the books to back up your argument?

Yeah, some context for such a bold statement would be helpful.

Because they're abominable stories that desecrate characters are written by a childish simpleton that wants the DCU his way and no other.

Don't think the new JLA deserves such outright condemnation after just 1 issue

That's fair, but I just find the premise heinous. The idea of a Justice League being run as an ersatz Suicide Squad just flies in the face of what the team is about, and shows DC's fundamental lack of integrity that they would name a comic Justice League purely to rope people in that are familiar with the name.

Yeah, they did that with Justice League Dark too. There's no real reason it needs to be called that.

Marvel do it too though. Calling their Illuminati series New Avengers, and their Battle Royal rip off Avengers Arena for example.

It's best not to get me started on all the things Marvel do that show their lack of integrity lol

Awwww....Go on - do tell! :D

Since the days of Maxwell Lord and the J.M. Dematteis / Keith Giffen League of the 80's there have been these government backers / interferers around so this is not a new concept. I will reserve judgement on whether the sole purpose of this group is actually to be a kind of Suicide Squad till I've read a few issues. However if the reason for the new League is purely to "take down" the more powerful Justice League, then that is a fairly weak premise for a book - almost as weak as the chances of Catwoman against Batman or Katana against Wonder Woman!

If they are going to stick with 52 titles and also want to challenge Marvel at the same time, then they need to discover / develop more popular characters and titles. They can't just flood the market with yet more Batman / Superman / GL / JLA books either. We have seen this month how having several titles has possibly affected Avengers sales - and it has happened to other characters (Deadpool springs to mind) before.

I agree. I'm getting tired of Batman & Superman and I'm actually a fan of Batman & the Bat-Family but I can't take anymore over-saturation. This is why I only read two Avengers books I don't need 5 or 4 or whatever they have now. I'm going catch up on Secret Avengers but after issue 1 I don't see any reason to read Uncanny Avengers.

What? I dont really get this comment. If dc makes waaay too much superman/batman/green lantern series, marvel makes way too much avengers/x-men series

And theres a lot of good stuff thats not justice league related, every series from the dark family has been getting critical appraise so far except for phantom stranger

Unfortunately critical acclaim is not being translated into sales. Sadly that is often the case and good titles sometimes get cancelled. When that happens the temptation for DC must be to turn to their reliable sellers.
