Is there ever..

A convenient moment for the telephone to ring? It always seems to happen when we are in the middle of an important conversation, or having a meal. And its particularly galling when its something trivial like a sales or courtesy call. Maybe we should all go ex-directory and just give out our mobile (cell) phone numbers to those people we want to be contacted by. At least we can turn our mobile / cell phones off if we don't want to talk to anyone!

World Cup

In case any of you guys (and girls) hadn't realised, this summer sees the football (soccer to you) world cup take place in South Africa. England and the USA are in the same opening group. Now, although you've got some decent players, and may well finish 2nd in the group - therefore qualifying for the knockout stages, I have to say I think England will win the head to head 2 - 0. I'm sure you all agree! (Not)

Why the Silver Age of Comics is so great

I guess I grew up in the Silver Age, but wasn't aware of Comics until 1971 when my mother brought some in from work. LIttle did she know that she had opened a real Pandora's Box of adventures for me! I have been a comic collector since that day, and have to say my favourite age of all is the Silver Age. Sure, artists and artistic techniques have developed since then, but for me you can't beat the likes of Kirby, Adams, Infantino, or Kane for pure identifiable style. The Silver Age was a time when creativity ran wild and the DC multiverse battled it out with the Marvel age of Comics for four colour supremacy. It was a time of New Characters, New experiments and New Titles to be launched. It was a time of the letters page when fans really had a say, and Direct Currents and Stan's Soapbox told us fans of what was going on.

The wonderful stories of the Silver Age and the characters who starred in them are now being re-hashed in many titles - why do you think Barry Allen is back as Flash and Hal Jordan is GL again?  No, say what you like, IMO the Silver Age of Comics (1956 - 1971) will never be beaten in terms of creativity of characters, stories with relevance or identifiable artwork.

Whatever - the weather!

Have you ever noticed that we all seem happier when the sun is out? Why does the weather dictate our feelings? When the weather is miserable, people seem miserable and when the sun's out, everyone is happy and smiling! Oh well, that's enough philosophy for today - we have a general election going on in the UK and for anyone who is interested it seems that the current Prime Minister, Gordon Brown may just have made a telling gaffe, calling a member of the public "bigotted" when he thought his mike was switched off. Ah, technology is wonderful when it works, but frustrating when it doesnt! Bit like the odd glitch on Comic Vine really - anyone else ever get really fed up when that happens? Sure you don't!

None!

Its about time that comic companies had the courage of their convictions and stood by their decisions. If they kill a character off - let that character stay dead - move on and develop new ones!
