A Message from the Queen

To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

In light of your failure in recent years to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. (You will probably need to look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.)

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except Alaska, which she does not fancy).

Your new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections.

Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

  • The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-'ise.'Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').
  • Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as 'like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S English. We will let Mcrosoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.'
  • July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.
  • You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse.
  • Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.
  • All junctions (not intersections) will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.
  • The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it.
  • You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with ketchup but with vinegar.
  • The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.
  • Hollywood will be required to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.
  • You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).
  • Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America . Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the South Africans first to take the sting out of their deliveries.
  • You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.
  • An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776).
  • Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season.

God Save the Queen.

Complaints...

Ok, this is basically in response to Final Arrow and Mistress Redhead's blogs...

Now, while i do agree with some of their points and disagree with some others, i do have to stress first of all that i have seen the site change a lot lately as well. As Final Arrow commented, the site lately has had it's share of problems because of several people making the site uncomforatble for others to be here....

now, after reading that you will as "Why aren't the mods doing anything about it then?", so here's my response...

WE ARE!!!

We can't be here 24 / 7...  we do all have lives and stuff in real life to get on with...

when we are on, and we notice something kicking on, we do step in and deal with it...

the problem is that a lot of the stuff kicks off when we are not around, and then when we do come on we get a dozen or more complaints about why we weren't here or why we didn't do anything about it... basically, we can't be here 24 / 7 and if something does kick off when we aren't here, we need a link to it so that we can go and deal with it in a timely fashion, if not it will just be left there without any reprisal for their actions.

Another thing that pisses me off is that people never understand how much crap we actually get here...

i mean, on any given day, any mod will recieve 10 or more PM's from people... the majority of these are abuse from people for locking threads or denying their submissions... and to put it bluntly, we're sick of it... the amount of b!tching and complaining on the site has reached a stupid level. People complain about a user, the user complains about them. and then they get their friends to complain about it... and it just goes on and on, and soon the mod in question has a stupid amount of PM's from both people involved, and normally it's filled with profanity and missspelled accusations ending up in the PM just being deleted.

Now, if anyone has a valid complaint about a user on ComicVine and the mods haven't been around to deal with it, just follow these simple steps...

1. Does it require a mod to take care of it or can you deal with it yourself?

if you can deal with it yourself, then do so... all the mods here have enough work to do as it is without dealing with 'he said / she said' crap

2. if it can't be sorted out by the users, or it's a seriously problem...

PM a mod... there are enough of us here and we're always willing to listen to complaints.

make sure the complaint is valid and well thought out, use links and quotes to actually make your point and list what has happened.

if we look into it and actually find out that the person who complained to us was the one that actually started the problem in the threads, then we will deal with you as harshly as you wanted us to deal with the other person.

ok, here's what we don't want...

1. we don't want PM's filled with profanity or b!tching about a certain user... that is a quick way to get the PM deleted or ignored
2. we don't want 'he said / she said' bullsh!t... make sure you use valid quotes and links in the PM so we can actually locate the problem and deal with it.
3. we don't want you to get a list of people just to complain about one user... we don't need that BS... just use your common sense and deal with it sensebly.

now i've got my stuff out of the way, i'll deal with stuff that has been commented on in other blogs...

Over the last year some of it for worse some for better people seem taken aback to speak their minds or express certain view without people coming down on them from above like the hand of god it’s self trying to say things when them their selves have done no different.

ok, the way i read this is that you feel that people are being censored on the vine without good reason?

i can't guess any more than that without a link to the problem and what caused it to be censored...

it does seem that certain people want some things to be censored but not others, or they want some people censored for expressing views that differ to their own but can't stand it when they are censored..

now, i do agree that everyone has their right to free speech and to have their point made... the problem is that some views are views that are deliberately made to annoy certain people or to incense an argument... these are the views that will get censored immidiately, no matter who made them.

if you're making a point just to start an argument or just to make someone feel unwelcome here, expect to have it censored, deleted, locked... whatever... the vine is not here for your personal b!tching ground.

The vine HAS changed and I cant help but wonder why where are the mods they always seem caught up on the Wiki queue or have no powers to do something on the threads. And if we follow protocol and speak to Admin we are hit with a stone wall.

ok. This i will comment on...

I'm always on the vine... i'm about on most threads and am always willing to come into any thread and help out anyone, while i can't speak for every mod out there, i can say that most of them, if not all of them, are always willing to listen to people and help them out on the site.

we now have 8 mods with Forum Moderating powers, so i don't understand where the complaint about us never being on the forums is coming from... i'm on the forums as much as i can be... but again, i can't be everywhere, so i do need people to PM me with any complaints they have about users or other things...

now i don't want to drag this blog out, but the point is, if you actually have a problem with something on the vine, make a point of changing it yourself...

the main complaint i have seen from users is that the vine has changed lately and they don't like how certain users are acting to others...

well, stand up to the people that are acting like that then, if they don't listen to you or get abusive towards you, PM me with a quote and link and i'll come in and deal with it.

other wise, the vine forums are what you all make of them, treat others as you expect to be treated and everyone should get on fine

True Blood!!!

True Blood
True Blood
I'm a vampire junkie. A huge Buffy and Angel fan, I absolutely fell in love with Blood Ties and I own every single Anne Rice book out there. So when came accrossTrue Blood as HBO new series' I nearly screamed in excitement, I mean, I own all of  Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mystery books that the series is based on and they're damn good, and based on what I saw of the pilot this series could pave the way for an Anita Blake series or a Anne Rice: Vampire Chronicles series...

The books were my guilty pleasure, my trashy beach read. There is a little something for everyone in the books: vampire lore, humor, romance, adventure, mystery. Not deep, but enjoyable. They're not great writing, they're not the amusement of Anita Blake or the depth of character that Anne Rice throws into her books but they're fun and an easy read.

The premise of True Blood is that vampires are living among people publicly, since synthetic blood has been marketed to satisfy them nutritionally. Sookie Stackhouse, the lead, is a telepath and falls for Bill Compton, a new vampire in town. There's a murder mystery that will span the first season, at least, and all the adventures that Sookie encounters because of her telepathy and association with the vampires.

The Blurb from the back of the books

In the not-too-distant future, vampires have come out of the coffin. Thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood, vampires no longer need humans for their fix and can walk freely, if not yet comfortably, among their living counterparts – though they can still come out only at night.

So how'd the first two episodes of the show fare?

When I viewed the screeners, the pilot and second episode, I wound up amazed... Ok, that doesn't really sum it up, here's what's good about the show so far:

  • Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse is a nice fit; a nearly perfect casting job, in fact.
  • Other casting choices that work are Sam Trammell as Sookie's boss, Sam Merlotte; Ryan Kwanten as Sookie's brother Jason; and Lois Smith as Sookie's grandmother Adele.
  • The opening scene of the pilot really sets the tone nicely; too bad the rest of the show didn't keep the fun and frolic.
  • The pilot does a decent job of introducing the characters, setting up the premise and leaving us with a suspenseful cliffhanger, since it follows the book fairly closely.
  • In reading the premises for the third and fourth episodes, it sounds like the series may go in a somewhat interesting direction: not following the book too closely, and the secondary characters may actually be given some storylines of their own.

Hottie
Hottie
Ok, Anna Paquin as perfect casting doesn't do it justice...

Not only is she a supreme hottie, but she actually does the role justice and has an amazingly dark edge that I seriously doubted she could pull off, but she did it and I was honstly gobsmacked by her...

Will I stick with the series?

oh hell yeah, I absolutely loved it and really hope for more of this amazing show

my 3 for a TV show...

Hellblazer
Hellblazer
1. Hellblazer

This one would work amazingly as a TV series, not only is it amazingly dark and witty, but the main storyline of the character, John Constantine, could be told in flashbacks in the series as it is done in the comics. all you'd have to do is completely ignore the movie and keep it faithful to the comics and i could see it being a real hit...

i nominate James Marsters for the role of John Constantine lol. The comics are amazingly well written with various 'arcs' spread out to give the show a massive 'epic' feel while keeping the 'superhero' nature of the show grounded in reality and normal people.

Hitman
Hitman
2. Hitman

What else can be said about Hitman or the character Tommy Monaghan...

it would be hilarious to see this on TV and could actually work well with 'guest stars' from Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Etrigan and others, much like the comic did...

Preacher
Preacher
3. Preacher

Rumor has it that this is already in the works, so i won't say much about it other than kick ass and get a move on, we need some decent TV back after the crap that is lost and heroes taking over...

ok, i also have to nominate Green Lantern, but the problem with a show like that would be that it would be so epic, so mind boggling that they'd have to either start from scratch and work their way up, or just do flashbacks and prey that they get everything right for the fans while not dumping too much on the new audience to alienate them...

X-Files 2 Review

The X-Files 2
The X-Files 2
Ok, i've finally seen the full movie...

First things first...

SPOILERS!!!

and wow, just wow...

the new movie blows the first away by miles...

it really feels like it's back to the original series, the medical research, the psychics, the team work, the usual b!tchyness and stupidity of the FBI lol

it feels like the first 4 series again, while i came into the movie hoping for a conclusion to the 'cancerman aliens' arc that spread through the entire series of X-Files, what i found was an amazing movie that really blew me away with amazing writing and not a flashy special effect in sight.

there are more than a few twists and turns in the plot, enough to keep any X-Files fan guessing and the guest star of Billy Connoly playing a paedophile priest was just perfect casting and an amazing character that really grabbed my attention.

The one thing i really didn't see coming was the fact that Mulder and Scully are now in a relationship and apparently have been for several years... but again, it really worked in the overall storyline and actually made sense for the larger plot of the series.

the stem cell research and the medical details really grabbed me as it really brought Scully into the limelight, back to her original medical background and working in her own way to fight for her beliefs with Mulder helping her, or challenging her every step of the way.

i have to give this movie 9 / 10, it only looses one point for dropping the sexual tension between Mulder and Scully that had been brewing for so many years, but the final conclusion to the movie was something i never saw coming and i walked out of the movie actually feeling good about the X-Files again rather than the feeling of "Did i just pay for that?" that i got from the last movie.

Seriously, go and see the movie. it's a brilliant piece of film and stands firm as an X-files movie in it's own right that could quite happily have been attached to the end of the series as a conclusion.

yup...

yup.... well just incase the Green Lantern, Superman, Batman, Batgirl, Dr Who, Darkness, Witchblade, Aspen and other T-shirts don't get the message accross, they can always find me perched on the edge of the bar at work during quiet periods reading a comic with a big mug of coffee...

i'm pretty obvious about it lol

Betty or Veronica?

Betty or Vornica....

neither, Archie is holed up with Jughead, we all know that lol

Banky: Archie all right? Archie and the Riverdale gang were a pure and fun loving bunch. You can't find dysfunction in those comics, because they were just flat out wholesome.

Hooper: Archie and Jughead were lovers.

Banky: Shut the f**k up.

Hooper: It's true. Archie was the b!tch and Jughead was the butch... that's why Jughead wear the crown looking hat all the time: he's the king of queen Archie's world.

Banky: Man, I feel a hate crime coming on.
