@dominus_: "Hahah!" Max takes a bite of his bear claw, "No. No nothing like that Junior."

The waitress stands there staring at him, "Ain't you that fella from the news? What won the lotto wit Animus Corps?"

Max continues talking, unphased by the woman. Jelly squirts from the donut and falls on the plate in dollops, "Truth be told there's not much I don't know about you" Somehow it was as though he was speaking in front of a podium, the clarity in Max's voice even though his mouth was clearly full.

"Now look at'cha" Peggy says, holding her note pad in front of her self biting her lip, "Sitting in a diner, eating a king's meal at my section. "

"Who knows Tommy Newcastle better" Max asks

"By himself." Peggy says while chuckling.

"Than Me."

@dominus_: "Hm?" The waitress asks peering to the side before looking at Brian, her smile lilting slightly, "Me? Yeah its pretty dry out there right now. I'll be right back sugar."

"Whitaker" Max said taking another bite and setting it down, rolling the bread to one side of his cheek, "I heard about him. Got friends over there. Say he cracked after that whole clown thing and left the squad. Three officers down in the span of a few weeks. Gotta be a record. What do you mean more than it was?"

"Maybe" Max says swallowing his meal, "Despite all her hang ups about Thomas, she knew you were his son. Decided it was the only right name for you. But hey you're Maddox's Junior am I right? Nobody can take that from you." He takes another bite, the crimson jelly puffing from the exhaust holes, "Nah, I left because of my own reasons. Thomas turned out to be less than the man I expected. I thought he was there for me but he just saw someone to use and toss away when they became an inconvenience. Real bastard, to be honest. You know?"

The waitress returns with glass in hand, droplets of water perspiring from the sides of the icy water, "There ya are suge. "

@dominus_: Max nods with genuine concern, "That had to be tough. Not having much of a family. People who care about you." Max takes a deep breath and shakes his head, looking down at the plate of food, "But at least you had The Force, and Cap Maddox. Some people consider those they work with to be family after long enough. Sorry to hear about the way things went down with those detectives by the by. What was it...Womack and Castillo? Tragic shit, tragic. That's Grimm for you though." Pulling a napkin from his jacket and laying it over his lap Max rubs his hands together. "Don't get involved if you aren't ready for what comes next."

"Well, anyway. Thomas. Abusive and dead, he was always the first and now the latter. I don't know how to tell you Tommy, but he was a bastard of the worst kind." Max picks up a bear claw and takes a subtle bite of the edge, just enough to keep talking. "He had a way of...he'd get in you're head, you know? More than that he'd worm his way into ya heart."

Just then the waitress came over. She had on a pink dress with a name tag that read 'Peggy' and a cherry red painted set of full lips that pulled back to reveal lightly coffee stained teeth, "Wow! Quite the spread!" She pulls out a small leather bound booklet and flips it open, "Did you want anything? Doggy bag?"

@dominus_: "Great. Well first off, how well did you actually know Thomas?" Max asks, not touching his meal just. He's leaned in and engrossed in the conversation. Arms folded and shoulders slouched. His entire attention was unified between Brian's eyes. "Maybe I can fill in some gaps." The plates sat around him, a trove of street meats, farmer's market veggies and afternoon glazed pastries to share between the two, "Granted I don't know much more than you, but it's something. "

@dominus_:

"No, just that cautious. It's in the blood." He says gripping his knee with clasped hands to reveal his brown loafers. Brian seemed irritated. But it was understandable, afterall he started off penniless and then jumped to international fame for all the wrong reasons. That puts a chip on a man's shoulder. He feels he has something to prove.

"That's admirable, Brian. But I was really hoping this could be less about business. What you do with the company is lawfully, personally and literally, none of my damn business. I just wanted to talk to you. Maybe see if you wanted to grab a bite to eat? Talk on neutral ground, put the world down for a few hours and shrug a little. I can't really get personal in a Winsor knot and duck shoes. "

He leans forward, "Look. We've got the most obvious thing in common, but the less obvious is we both know damn well we're much more comfortable with a burger at a dive diner than kiante in a high rise. Let's go"
