Lord Vitiate Vs. Palpatine

This is a question that has ben bugging the crap out of me in recent days and I just can't decide. I am a huge Palpatine fan, and would be quick to rally around Sidious, but Vitiate could be able to drain the entire galaxy. Maybe if it can down to a lightsaber... Sidious would win. George Lucas and many other canon sources have said that Palaptine is the most powerful Sith to ever exist, but the continuity is very fluid. Perhaps Vitiate is more powerful.... I e-mailed Drew Karapyshn, but I doubt he will respond or even have an opinion.

Interesting... I'm not sure.

Posted by JediXMan

Palpatine is much stronger. Vitiate never drained a galaxy, just a single planet and he did this while performing a ritual with the entire Dark Council. Palpatine steadily drained about 20 billion people from Byss for years.

Palpatine is much more powerful than Vitiate. Vitiate isn't that powerful.

Is Palpatine, Galactus-level?

This.

No, he can't. He requires additional aid as well as countless simultaneous deaths, plus an entire ritual.

Sidious has done everything Vitiate has on a far greater scale. Vitiate is not more powerful than Sidious, not a chance.

Sidious is faster than Vitiate's eye. Of course he wins a saber duel, Vitiate could barely hold a saber properly as of the Revan novel.

If you knew anything about Palpatine, you would realize he is the most powerful Sith Lord to ever exist, no questions asked, with far greater feats than the Sith Emperor. Vitiate requires trinkets, relics and outside help to be powerful, yet still is no match for Palpatine.

I haven't seen Vitiate move at near-relativistic speeds that are too fast for someone (who dodges lightning and sees sub-light speed ships in slow motion) to even see.

I haven't seen Vitiate create Hyperspace Wormholes that rip through space-time continuum, teleport beings across the galaxy and annihilate entire fleets, as well as the surfaces of planets and moons.

I haven't seen Vitiate become powerful without relics and trinkets.

I haven't seen Vitiate drain an entire planet's populace of twenty billion (and other forms of life) slowly and steadily for years while travelling throughout the galaxy.

I haven't seen Vitiate procure the most powerful Force Lightning that decimates multiple beings instantly.

I haven't seen Vitiate shown capability of even wielding a saber (he could barely even hold one), let alone be a master of all the seven lightsaber forms and all techniques and stances within said forms, and have mastery over all the said forms ambidextrously.

I haven't seen Vitiate telepathically incapacitate multiple Jedi Masters from across the galaxy.

I haven't seen Vitiate mind-wiping twenty billion people effortlessly.

I haven't seen Vitiate be described as a Black Hole in the Force.

I haven't seen Vitiate establish and destroy telepathic links from across the galaxy, without having to formerly interact and establish a mental link with them at close proximity.

I haven't seen Vitiate sensing, manipulating and forseeing emotions across the galaxy.

I haven't seen Vitiate foresee the past and future without the aid of the Dread Masters.

I haven't seen Vitiate be the culmination of nearly 1000 years' worth of training, experience, knowledge, wisdom and observation.

I haven't seen Vitiate picture events in exact detail across planetary, let alone galactic, distances.

I haven't seen Vitiate slay three council members in combat before the can react (one council member already began to withstand his lightning, plus another knight).

I haven't seen Vitiate use mind-wipes that are permanent and do not have beings that are "immune" to its effects.

I haven't seen Vitiate being capable of shrouding the Jedi's foresight and precognitive abilities with his mere presence.

I haven't seen Vitiate be a master of politics.

I haven't seen Vitiate light up a planet with Force Lightning.

I haven't seen Vitiate create a storm with his mere fury while keeping his fury private.

I haven't seen Vitiate manipulate his master's mind for years.

I haven't seen Vitiate be so strong in the Force, the Force literally hides itself inside him.

I haven't seen Vitiate being incapable of being scanned prior to having any formal training in the Force.

I haven't seen Vitiate kill beings so quickly they appeared to be disposed of by a phantom, while an apprentice.

I haven't seen Vitiate master every known Dark Side Force power (except for Midi-Chlorian manipulation, which he has not even heard of or seen in any way) and invent others at a whim.

And much more. I can name more than a dozen beings capable of besting Vitiate in a fight, but I cannot think of even half a dozen beings that can beat Sidious.

Consistency of canon has never changed, there are numerous sources that place Palpatine as the most powerful:

Yoda went after Palpatine in the empty Senate chamber, but could not defeat the most powerful Sith Lord in history.

--Taken from The New Essential Chronology

Darth Sidious proved to be the grim culmination of a thousand years of Sith philosophy and teachings.

--Taken from Jedi vs Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force

When the Sith finally emerged from a thousand years of watching and waiting, they numbered—in accordance with the tradition set down by Darth Bane—only two. The most powerful of these was Darth Sidious, an ice-cold, diabolically calculating genius equipped with the strength of the dark side of the Force, as well as an enormous wealth of Sith artifacts, equipment, and knowledge.

--Taken from The Dark Side Sourcebook

And then there was Palpatine, of course: he was beyond power. He showed nothing of what might be within. Though seen with the eyes of the dark side itself, Palpatine was an event horizon. Beneath his entirely ordinary surface was absolute, perfect nothingness. Darkness beyond darkness. A black hole of the Force.

--Taken from Revenge of the Sith

Plagueis made a soothing gesture and explained in great detail what had taken place. Concluding, he said, "He threatened, too, to place you out of reach."
All the while Plagueis spoke, Palpatine was storming through circles on the narrow path, shaking his head in anger and balling his fists. "He can't do this!" he snarled. He hasn't the right! I won't allow it!"
Palpatine's fury buffeted Plagueis. Blossoms growing along the sides of the pathway folded in on themselves, and their pollinators began to buzz in agitation. FourDee reacted, as well, wobbling on its feet, as if in the grip of a powerful electromagnet. Had this human truly been born of flesh-and-blood parents? Plagueis asked himself. When, in fact, he seemed sprung from nature itself. Was the Force so strong in him that it had concealed itself?

--Taken from Darth Plagueis

Palpatine has spent decades studying the most arcane and esoteric Jedi disciplines. It is believed that he has mastered nearly all the known powers, previously unknown powers, and devises new ones at his pleasure.

--Taken from the Dark Empire Sourcebook

There is the most still nothing pointing otherwise. Lucas' word is final, you cannot argue against it.The argument ends right there.

@shootingnova @jedixman Are you guys really saying that Vitiate isnt that powerful? Hasnt done any great force feats? I'll do it ShootingNova's way.

I havent seen Palpatine suck all life forms including sound and colour from a planet

I havent seen Palpatine take the very fabric of the force away from a planet

I havent seen Palpatine take over a planet and become its ruler at the age of 11

I havent seen Palpatine snap his parents neck at the age of 5

I havent seen Palpatine live for millenias

Well anyways the way i see it is Vitiate stomps.

Posted by dccomicsrule2011

@rexorr: Ummmm no. Palpatine is the most powerful Sith Lord you can't argue against canon. Also Palpatine feats>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Vitiate.

Edited by Rexorr

@dccomicsrule2011 Did you even read what i wrote down?

So yeah destroying a fleet with the force is more impressive then sucking all life force including colour, sound and the very fabric of the force out of the planet. Yup totally.

Edited by dccomicsrule2011

@rexorr: I read it still not more impressive then Palpatine. Vitiate needed prep and other Sith followers to conduct a ritual he did not do it with his power alone IIRC. Palpatine has drained 20 billion beings across a galaxy. Also it has been stated in canon multiple times that Palpatine is the most powerful Sith lord, you can't argue against canon.

Posted by Rexorr

@dccomicsrule2011 He sucked the force from the planet alone when he was like 20. No, not with the dark council. Oh and Lucas created Vitiate? Really? I didn't know that. Oh yeah that's right cause he didn't. Doesnt mean Lucas says Commander Cody can beat Palpatine means he actually can. And Lucas did not create Vitiate. He said Palpatine was strongest sith ever BEFORE Vitiate was created soooo....

Posted by dccomicsrule2011

@rexorr: No he never, Lucas has never stated Palpatine was the most powerful. The EU did, nice try though. Again Palpatine feats are better all around period. Vitiate needed prep and rituals to do mostly everything he did (and they still fail to match Palpatine anyway) Sidious needed no such thing.

Canon and feats>>>>>>>>>your opinion

Edited by Ostyo

@shootingnova: Well, besides the obivous love for Palpatine, excellent debate and denfense made for him.

Edited by Rexorr

@dccomicsrule2011 You still don't get the point here.

The only reason you say Palpatine is stronger is cause some experts said so.

Anyway you prob didnt even read SWTOR Revan so you cant say anything here. I have actually read about Palpatine's feats. Ok, maybe he traveled through space with the force. Well guess what Revan did too. Maybe he created huge force storm. Bane did too. Maybe he sucked the life out of a huge population of people. Guess what? Nihilus did too. So you still dont have a point here.

You talking about Fold Space? Never been proven. The method of his escape is never explained, and we don't even know how far he traveled. There's no reason to compare them.

That's not the same kind of Force Storm that Palpatine used. You're thinking about a little Force Lightning. Palpatine... well...

He did this:

No. No, not some experts. The experts have already spoken. And yes, we are right.

So we're clear, I am not taking an active role in this debate. I'm going to pick and choose which fallacies I should waste my time with.

@rexorr: Your wrong on so many levels I do not even know where to start......

It's speculated in Revan used Force Fold or Teleport but the description was vague to say the least. Also that irrelevent if he did, Palpatine can teleprot multiple objects/people through hyperspace via wormwhole.

Darth Bane has never created a Force storm, what are you talking about?

Nihilus sucked the life force on a colony planet....... Palpatine drained Byss a planet that is sporting 20 billion people slowly while traveling across the galaxy. That is a greater scale then what Nihilus did not to mention Byss is a much larger planet then Katarr to boot.

This strawman argument you are using is not doing you any justice. I'm not even going to entertain you anymore because you have no clue what you are talking about. And it's a wonder I hate EU threads on the Vine....

@jedixman @dccomicsrule2011 OK i admit it Palpatines feats are "incredible"

But really? If Palpatine was "sooo" powerful, then how come he was killed by being thrown in a hole by a DYING aprentice?

you guys are saying Vitiate is weak? Then how come he killed his parents at the age of 6 and became ruler of his planet at 13? Oh right and might I add: WITHOUT training or even knowledge of the dark side. Or even the force. Tell me when you saw Palpatine do this. And, @dccomicsrule2011, Wookiepedia: "However, the Sith Lord underestimated his son's abilities; after revealing his true parentage, Tenebrae stripped Dramath of his power in the Force and drove the man insane before killing him." Tell me when you saw Palpatine do this at the age of 10. (And even if Palpatine did do it, it was with training.) Vitiate did all this without ever training. He learned all he knew of the dark side by himself.

Oh and some more quotes

"But when the eight thousand Sith who answered Vitiate's call[10] arrived at his palace, he dominated their minds and bound their wills to his."

"The man absorbed the life force of the entire world, stripping the Force from the very fabric of reality on Nathema and gaining both unimaginable power and immortality as a result."

PS: Btw Vitiate was never even comfirmed dead :)

Posted by StMichalofWilson

Well, both are masters of the Dark Side and skillful at manipulation. In an actual fight Vitiate would definitely be the winner, but if Palpatine uses his craftiness, he could ultimately win the fight. But that's just my opinion

@rexorr:

Because Anakin was the Chosen One. He was destined to bring balance to the Force and kill Palpatine. Nice try with the low balling though.

you guys are saying Vitiate is weak?

When did I ever say Vitiate was weak? Now you are just putting words in my mouth. The fact of the matter is he is nothing compared to Palpatine.

The rest of your post is not even worth replying to because I already explained the context behind it.

Not even close. Palpatine would kill Vitiate before the latter even knows it.

Palpatine didn't even get killed by being thrown in a hole by Vader, it just killed his body. He still came back after that.

I already countered those points. Vitiate needed prep and outside help to accomplishes most of those feats and they still are inferior to Palpatine. It was destined to happen, Anakin was the Chosen One he was created by the Force itself to bring balance to the Force, thus that is what happen. By killing Palpatine, Anakin fulfilled the prophecy.

How is that impressive? Palpatine did the same thing with no training, in fact he killed his entire family and guards.

You men he preped to kill that sith lord he turned insane in seconds?

Featless Sith lord is featless. Palpatine has brought Darth Vader to his kness while being on another planet. Palpatine can make non Force sensitives dark side adepts by giving them some of his power.

And i still havent seen Palpatine do anything even close to that without training or at that age so youve countered pretty much nothing.

I do not even know why any of this matters. Palpatine with out training has been able to seal his thoughts away from Darth Plagueis; a Sith so powerful he could keep beings from dying. Dude you have no argument at all.

Oh and just in case it has to be said I'm dccomicsrule2011, this is just my alt.

Heres what the "experts" say: (Starwars.com)- he was ONE of the most powerful Sith Lords

See this ^? Yeah youre right! They do say THE most powerful sith in history!

Oh, and they say something else: (Wookiepedia-Palpatine)- Born in 82 BBY - In 65 BBY, he met Hego Damask, a Muun businessman who was in reality the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis. Under Plagueis's manipulation, Palpatine killed his father

So youre right! He was 5 when he killed his parents! And youre also right on something else! He wasnt trained! (65+17=82, Oh wait, so he wasnt 5! He was 17! Sayyyy....... Doesnt it say: UNDER PLAGUEIS'S MANIPULATION Palpatine killed his father? So you are right, he didnt train! But he was under a dark lord's manipulation. Isn't that worse?)

@rexorr: I'm done with you. I'm using CANON sources while you are using a Wookkipedia..

Heres what the "experts" say: (Starwars.com)- he was ONE of the most powerful Sith Lords

lol are you just being willingly ignorant? The Site does not even include the EU anyway, that is why when you click on his profile they only have stuff for what he did during the movies. I have already told you it is C-Canon that made Palpatine the most powerful Sith, not G-Canon

Yoda went after Palpatine in the empty Senate chamber, but could not defeat the most powerful Sith Lord in history.

--Taken from The New Essential Chronology

Vader imagined the power that could be his if he crushed Palpatine and established his own rule over the Empire. But first, he would need his own apprentice. By himself, he could not hope to defeat the most powerful Sith Lord the galaxy had ever known.

--Taken from Vader: The Ultimate Guide

Beyond the vision of the Jedi Knights, somewhere within the darkness, the greatest master of evil ever to use Sith power bides his time. As his strength grows, his plans begin to shape the course of the galaxy, and his snares await the unsuspecting.

--Taken from The Complete Visual Dictionary

When Yoda crosses sabers with the movie's arch-villain, he doesn't launch into a pinwheeling display of acrobatics, as he did against Count Dooku in Episode II. Instead, Yoda faces the dark side's fury, channeled by the most powerful Sith Lord in history. "Rob Coleman wanted Yoda to feel the power of his enemy," says Wheless, "like a force he's never dealt with before."

--Taken from Insider #86: Yoda's Right Arm

Inside the spacious interior of the Galactic Senate chamber, Yoda challenged the Emperor. The two engaged in a spectacular duel—a contest between the most powerful practitioners of the Force’s light and dark sides.

--Taken from The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia

It quickly became clear to Luke that this decrepit and seemingly defenseless old man was masterfully adept in the ways of the Dark Side of the Force. Indeed, as Vader had warned, the Emperor had become the Dark Side's most powerful expression.

--Taken from the Dark Empire endnotes

Even Ulic Qel-Droma would be envious of Palpatine. He had succeeded where all others had failed in taming the Dark Side.

--Taken from Dark Empire Sourcebook

Yeah canon says Palpatine is the most powerful of all time stop fooling your self read the actual source material instead of trusting wiki's.

Oh, and they say something else: (Wookiepedia-Palpatine)- Born in 82 BBY - In 65 BBY, he met Hego Damask, a Muun businessman who was in reality the Sith Lord Darth Plagueis. Under Plagueis's manipulation, Palpatine killed hisfather

False, Plaguies never manipulated him to do anything. If so post the quotes I have actually read the Dark Plaguies novel. I'm not getting my info from a site any dumbass with a computer can edit.

So youre right! He was 5 when he killed his parents! And youre also right on something else! He wasnt trained! (65+17=82, Oh wait, so he wasnt 5! He was 17! Sayyyy....... When did I ever even say he was five?

This is exactly what I said:

@aonosawada said:

My point is without any Sith training he was able to kill his parents just like Vitiate did. And no he was not under Plagueis control he done it under his own novel it's obvious you have not.. How about you actually read the source materiel before you post nonsense. Stop commenting on characters you know nothing about.

AonoSawada said: "Featless Sith lord is featless." That still makes him a sith lord, doesnt it?

Does it matter? Your are trying to past this off as a feat that surpasses Sidious but the fact is he killed a feat less Sith lord.

And to become a Dark lord of the Sith, don't you need to be just a tiny bit powerful? Just a bit more powerful than a 11 year old kid?

Again with the strawman I never said Vitiate was not powerful, but this feats or anything else you post are more impressive then Palpatines. Also your contrdicting your self with the statement to boot.

So you think any random 11 year old kid could kill a Dark Lord of The Sith? You're far from right, my friend, pretty far off.

When did I ever say it did? Your whole point in posting this feats was to show Vitiate doing things with out prep, and all of those feats pale in comparison to what Palpatine has done.

I will say this for the last time;

Stop commenting on characters you know nothing about.

You do not own every EU book because that is impossible. -_- Now you are lying (well to be honest you have the whole time) I just read page 165 and Plagueis said no such thing, in fact Plagueis and Palptine was getting ready to battle an army Kursid warriors on that very page as training. I like how you ignore the rest of my post, I read Star Wars EU, ask anyone on this site and they would tell you this rookie. I'm done, you are just trolling now and I will not perticipate in a debate with you any longer, all you do is ignore facts and come back with your strawman and red herring arguments. You have no case , you have no evidence and you have no clue what your talking about.

Edit: Unless you referring to the papaerback version where he says that quote on page 165 in the hardback version he says that on page 134, still Plagueis was just remarking on having Palpatine as an apprentice, that does not mean he was cotrolling Palpatine when he killed his parents (because he did not) Palpatine killed his familly and the guards with out traning and under his own power.

This is hilarious...

Edited by dccomicsrule2011

@rexorr: I was referring to the hardback version. I already edited my post to add that. Here is what really went down between the two after Palpatine killed his family:

Plagueis seated himself and crossed one leg over the knee. Has it really been only a week? For you seem greatly changed. Were the Chandrilan and Naboo authorities so rough on you? Palpatine continued to stare at him. "As you promised, where there is no evidence, there is no crime. They went so far as to enlist the aid of salvages and pirates in the search, but came up empty-handed."

His look hardened.

" But It's you who have changed. Despite the fact you saw this event on the making." Plagueis motioned to himself. " Did I suspect that you and your farther might reach and impasse? Of course. It would have been obvious to anyone. But you seem to be implying that I somehow divined that the confrontation would end in violence." Palpatine considered it, then snorted in derision. " You're lying. You may as well forced my hand. "What and odd way to put it," Plagueis said. "But since you've grasped the truth of it, I offer a confession I deliberately goaded you

--Taken from Darth Plagueis.

All it said was that Plagueis goaded him into doing it, Palpatine still killed his family and guards under his own power while he had no training in the Force you can ignore facts all you want it only make you look more foolish then you already are.

And the reason I was on aonosawada the other day is because m account was acting up, you can ask @i_like_swords: and @candenceV2: I did not log into this account to troll you, unlike you I'm am known as a pretty good debater on this site. They both started wars, but Darth Vitiate actually prolonged his own life by the deaths of billions, making him stronger in the process. He dominated the minds of the strongest Jedi at the time.

Plapatine became the strongest Sith because of his scheming and manipulation but his Empire lasted what a few short decades? Darth Vitiate's Empire ruled for millennia.

Palpatine has spent decades studying the most arcane and esoteric Jedi disciplines. It is believed that he has mastered nearly all the known powers, previously unknown powers, and devises new ones at his pleasure.

Darth Vitiate is easily more powerful than Darth Sidious if you compare their feats. Darth Vitiate could kill Sith Lords with a thought, Palpatine had to kill his master in his sleep.

Palpatine' ultimate power was his scheming and manipulation. But Darth Vitiate had also started wars and have used the deaths of billions to fuel his own power and life span.

Darth Vitiate ruled for a millennia, Palpatine's Empire lasted a few short decades.

Darth Vitiate easily dominated the minds of the two strongest Jedi of the time while Palpatine had to resort to his scheming and manipulation to get Anakin to side with him.

My Jedi knight pwned Vitiate. My jedi knight is no where near Sidious. Ergo, vitiate is no where near Sidious.

I'm just lol'ing that this is still in the off topic forum after all this time. @sc: @god_spawn: @saren: Battle Forums please.

What a ridiculously horrendous mismatch. Sidious turns Vitiate into a croissant and eats him for breakfast. Nobody actually refuted the above reasoning for Palpatine's victory.
