Mlog?

Hi again, CV. I have decided to refer to my blog as my "mlog." I am not going for originality here.

A few quick things:

I have frequented this website for a little over three years now. One can't fathom how much "smarter" this place has made me. It's also made me realize that no one likes a Negative Nancy--the guys that always trash forums. Today, I am officially a member. I appreciated the applause. It was a good touch. Occasionally I'll attempt to better the Superman-related wiki-edits. Unfortunately when I go into that mode, I get nothing done with my real life. Kudos to all those constantly are able to beef up the info.

I have read comic books as long as I can remember. I loved the art in 1988-93, and especially the artists of the time. It wasn’t until I was about 12 or 13 until I started processing the stories. That was it and the package was complete. What really kicked ass was getting a job and not being limited on what I could read month to month. Of course, that can be a good or a bad thing for a kid. Comics can be expensive. We know this.

Superman is my ace. The definition of “larger than life.” The Uncanny X-Men run in at a close second. The X-Men are every comic reader with ADHD’s dream-come-true--especially in the late 80’s following the Siege Perilous.

I read mostly DC currently. Superman books, Batman, GL, JL, Aq; the major titles basically. With Marvel, it’s Uncanny, Amazing, and the Avengers and who can argue and say those books are NOT all you need to read in the Marvel U? That’s all I have read ever since the SIEGE fallout and I haven’t missed a beat aside from reading FEAR ITSELF(ugh).

My FAVORITE title currently? INVINCIBLE. I have every single related issue in one way or another. It started out as the ultimate high-school kid-hero comic and it has evolved into so much more. There are a few minute details in the current storyline I have qualms with. But the book is almost 90 issues in and it’s taken this long for me to question Robert Kirkman’s direction on the title. I’m an idiot for questioning and I know in my head that everything always turns out awesome in this book. If any of you haven’t read Invincible, pick up the Ultimate Collection Vol. 1. The first graphic novel collects only a few issues. The Ult. Coll. V1 collects the first 13 or 14 I think. For Christmas this past year, my girlfriend found and bought me a copy of the first printing of Invincible #1. That’s love, yo.

Now, I am really not sure how I am going to structure these "mlogs." Until I have a chance to touch on something extremely trendy, I know I will probably be the only one reading these. I will have my day, perhaps.

I had only three purchases this week: The #5s of Superman, Aquaman, and Justice League. Aquaman and Justice League remain solid as Johns is giving us new sides of characters as they come into their own. Superman is a mess due to a crapbag DC editing team in careless control of the character as a whole. And I’m not mad at George Perez. I honestly believe that his idea was telling the same kind of Superman stories but with new, different villains and a death wish of sorts. It hasn’t worked. Now, I love what Grant Morrison is doing with Action Comics. I am hopeful Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens can pull off some of the early 90’s magic. Those old stories are way underrated.

I feel comfortable with this. Round 1 comes to close…

I AM AN AVENGER!!! WHO ELSE IS??

I saw a post a few months back on here and a few other sites with news of a contest where headshots of random people would be selected and appears in AVENGERS #1.  I went online and I took the pic, entered the contest and lo and behold...I didn't make the cut in Avengers #1, BUT I just read SECRET AVENGERS #1 and it's fantastic...

6 HEADSHOTS FROM THE FAR LEFT

5TH HEADSHOT DOWN

BOOM!!!

Anyone else make the cut???  I'm not on my personal comp but when I get the chance, I'll post the original pic.  Marvel did some zooming.

X-MEN SECOND COMING CANDIDATES FOR DEATH

You need to put a few things in prospective if you're talking about a DREAM TEAM of X-Men.  Does that mean CURRENT?  Does that mean EVER?  Let's just go with the current array of X-Men.

I'm friggin' tired.
I'm friggin' tired.
The three mutants I have added in this comment are who I would guess to be the candidates for death.  Let's start with CABLE.  He's been time-warping for YEARS protecting HOPE.  And if any of you have read Cable's newest series, you know that he's not doing too good physically.  He's taken some serious lumps for the prophecized "mutant savior".  Will it all be worth it?  Or will his final act as a hero and X-Man be saving mutantkind?

Second, Kurt "Vahgnah".  We all love NIGHTCRAWLER.  Wolverine even has a soft spot for the guy.  Halle Berry does as well.  After the newest issue of X-MEN
I'm lovable but I stink.
I'm lovable but I stink.
LEGACY, he's returning home with Rouge, Psylocke, Blindfold, and Mags after a run-in with PROTEUS(a Trekkie, not really).  Now I read an interview with MATT FRACTION a few days ago and I have been mulling it over.  Fraction said that this death is of a character we all know well, and all love.  Which brings me to the assumption that he definitely could be killing off Nightcrawler.

Then again, maybe Hank McCoy could be even more loved that Nightcrawler.  BEAST is at the top of my list to axe.  He's been through a lot in the past three years.  So much that he decided to up and roll out of "Utopia".  I really wish S.W.O.R.D. would've gotten another 12

or 15 issues.  A new writer and artist might've made it more appealing because I loved AGENT BRAND and Beast's loving banter with one another.  And LOCKHEED!!  Anyway, so, he leaves the X-Men, and S.W.O.R.D. gets cancelled in the real world.  Hmmmm?  Again I revert back to that Fraction interview.

Moving on with that in mind, here's who I would put together(excluding the aformentioned) as my CURRENT X-MEN DREAM TEAMS.

UNCANNY X-MEN W - M. Fraction  A - The Dodsons
Cyclops
Emma Frost
Namor
Wolverine
Rouge
Gambit
Iceman
Storm
Angel
Colossus
Kitty Pryde

Uncanny X-Men is the driving force of their universe.  Therefore, it needs the core members remaining, plus NAMOR rocking it out for mutantkind.  Whereas Legacy would be more driven by Prof and Mags teaching the seasoned, yet still new X-Men.

X-MEN LEGACY W - not Joe Casey  A - Phillip Tan or Clayton Henry(I loved "Rise And Fall of the Shi'Ar Empire")
Professor X
Magneto
Armor
Blindfold
Rockslide
Bling!
Trance
Northstar
No-Girl
Danger
Anole
Husk

That's what I got.  What would you people do?

What I would do if I had bought MARVEL

-Immediately concoct an arc that would inevitably bring back THE SCARLET WITCH to either relinquish the spell cast on the former mutant population, or have DOCTOR STRANGE or BROTHER VOODOO or someone assist her or draw it away from her possession.

-I would have JOE get a hold of ROBERT KIRKMAN and bring INVINCIBLE back over for a romp with DEADPOOL….and THE SENTRY in a two-parter or something. (i.e. Marvel Team-Up #14 w Spidey and Vincey)   You know, just because I spent 3 billion for company…no big deal.   Actually I’d try to bring all of his titles to MARVEL exclusively.

-Pay TODD MCFARLANE an ass-load of money to come back and draw SPIDER-MAN a la X-MEN FOREVER.   Have him pick back up where he left off in 1991.

-Throw JOE Q back on DAREDEVIL with BENDIS.

-Open up a MARVEL amusement park.

-Still try and work out a deal with PIXAR because they need to make a film series that tells the entire tale of the “All-New, All-Different” X-MEN.   And have Chris Claremont be the Chief Consultant on the project.   Whatever he says, goes.

CAPTAIN EO

George Lucas was the Executive Producer and Francis Ford Coppala directed the 3D short film/"ride" in both Disney parks in the U.S.  They both co-wrote it as well.  I remember loving it as a kid and today I read that Disney is planning on reopening it as early as January.  Pretty cool they're making it available for young kids of this generation, but is Disney also kind of piggy-backing after the untimely death of Michael Jackson?  I guess you could say that would have something to do with it.  But still, he's the "Elvis" or "Beatles" of my gen.  I hope that they remaster it and all of that goodness.  You have to admit the White Witch freaked you outthe first time she Cameron Hodge-ed down from above.

But to answer the question CAPTAIN EO wouldn't be a bad comic to develop.  He had cool energy powers that could convert dancing robots into human dancing robots OR converting dancing robots into platinum plated dancing robots.  But seriously -- with the right group of individuals -- I am sure a cool concept could be developed.

SMALLVILLE RANTS

ABOUT THE CASTING OF BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN:

What’s wrong with METALLO?   No one likes the character or….oh wait.   It’s because it’s Brian Austin Green.   You know he used to have the relations with KELLY KAPOWSKI, right?   Well, I guess that has nothing to do with Smallville, just wanted to throw that out there.   I’m not a big fan of the guy or anything but I think that Green being cast for this role was spot on.   Bring in someone that a lot of people know/remember for the start of a new season.   Plus, the only time Green was a bad guy was when he was doing drugs and what not in .   If you want to call that being a bad guy, it was more of a bad phase/bad latter seasons of 90210.

What’s with everyone crapbagging on The ‘Ville?   Lemme ask a question…where’s HEROES this year?   Oh yeah, that’s right, the show has been CUT IN HALF.   And just when Smallville can bask in the glow of Thursday night victory, they move them to Fridays.   I saw some dude wrote more-or-less that Smallville would get creamed by WWE wrestling on Fridays.

Really?!   Because no one has a DVR yet, and Smackdown isn’t the same crap over and over.   Get with the times, bro.   I think the show will do perfectly fine this year and continue to be the greatest comic adapted show to date.  Season 10 is going to happen.   Watch.

ABOUT THE WONDER TWINS APPEARING IN SEASON 9:

Good grief, these last two topics have put me in a mood.

I ask, WHAT’S WITH YOU LAME-OIDS AND SMALLVILLE?!

Is it because it’s not Batman?(wait that was too easy)   This hate-fest is just crazy and getting old.   People, it’s the WONDER TWINS.   I grew up with them.   A lot of us did!   Sure those two and their monkey were goofy, BUT it was a cartoon you knuckleheads!   You think that they’re going to just go with the cartoon version?   Hell no.   They’ve made OLIVER QUEEN cool.   That’s enough for me as far as that goes.   SUPERGIRL was awesome.   LOIS IS PERFECTION.   Then you have IMPULSE, CYBORG, AQUAMAN, BIZARRO, DOOMSDAY...all have been great.

With the talk of ULT. COMICS and ULTIMATUM and what not, maybe this will try explain what Smallville is.   That being:   ULTIMATE SUPERMAN.   Sure, NO ONE on the television/big screen is EXACTLY like the characters portrayed in comics OR cartoons.   So my question is: when have they ever?   The SIN CITY, 300, IRON MAN and SPIDEY movies have been CLOSE.  Everything else is a big load of, “Hell no.”

Plus, Smallville has the “90210” side to it as well.   The Wonder Twins, in my opinion, should’ve shown up during the high school years.   But, it’s whatever.   It’s just another set of characters to throw in.   TOY MAN WAS AWESOME!!(sorry, wanted to throw that in)   I guess this mood has to do with the fact that I’m a HUGE Superman fan.   And with so much nit-picking and bashing of the character over the years, – whether it be in film, T.V., or in the court of law – in most cases, I’m chalking it up to the fact that Superman is so perfect a super-hero, people begin to hate on him for that fact alone.

Kind of like THE BEATLES or ELVIS in a sense.   When they were at the top of their game, critics and whatnot found little quirks or actions just simply because they didn’t like them as artists and/or just people living on Earth.   I feel that way about Superman.   He’s like The Beatles of the comic book world.   You got to respect it at least.   If people are talking ‘s’, rolling into it’s 9 season, -- after the same jive-talking before the previous 8 -- then it’s got to be a good thing.

And plus, Superman can kick Batman’s ass.   He can take his little belt, wear it as a necklace, shave, break his nose just because, then chuck him into space…towards Saturn…all in 1.9 seconds. (not sorry, and didn’t need to immaturely throw that in, oh well =)   I do feel better now.

Chris Claremont

I grew up loving the X-Men.  I never realized that CHRIS CLAREMONT had written all of my Uncanny X-Men and Classic X-Men issues from 1987-1991.  I've seen interviews w/ him, but just dumb questions are asked.  I think lunch on Genosha would be a great atmosphere to pick his brain.

SO...IS THERE ANY QUESTION TO WHICH SHOT IS BETTER?

I am hitting the web today.  And I come across a preview to the cover of Cap: REBORN #4...

Really?!  C'mon now.  We all can remember Superman v.2 #205.  It was a weird storyline but Jim Lee's art was incredible.  Especially when you're a big Supes fan.

So, if anybody is out there...WHICH IS THE BETTER COVER.  It's obvious where my vote goes.

I get comics on...

I get comics on Wednesdays -- if it's viable.  Plus, with the "day of" reviews up in this piece, it's a necessity because I visit the Vine daily.  But if I can't, I can't,  no big deal...unless it's Uncanny week(last), or Supes WoNK week(this).
