Movie Review 16: Tombstone

Saga of Wyatt Earp and his band of law-abiding large moustaches beat the Kasdan/Costner vehicle to the big screen by several months. Legendary lawman Wyatt (Russell) moves to Tombstone, Arizona, aiming to start a new life with his brothers, but alas, that's not to be. The infamous gunfight at the OK Corral is here, and so is best buddy Doc Holliday, gunslinger and philosopher, a role designed for scenery chewing (Kilmer excels). Romance is supplied by actress Josephine, though Delany lacks the necessary romantic spark. Russell spends a lot of time looking troubled by the violence while adding to the body count. Too self-conscious, suffers from '90s western revisionism, but blessed with a high energy level thanks to despicable villains Lang, Biehn, and Boothe.
In my mind it was one of the best movies ever, one of the best Westerns ever and because of this movie i no longer hate Val Kilmer. I give it a 6/5.

Nostalgic Movie Review 1: Muppet Treasure Island

The muppets are back into action in another movie based on a novel written by Robert Louis Stevenson. Kermit the Frog and his colleagues go on a warfare against ruthless pirates. They also share their problem-solving journey on sea to rescue a treasure.  In my mind this is one of the best movies ever. Tim Curry does amazing as Long John Silver. The other muppets did good at their roles. Kermit the frog was good as the captain, the fight scenes were epic the story was good for a comedy version of muppets treasure Island. I give this movie a 5/5   Now sit back and enjoy the climactic battle at the end.

Movie Review 15: The Departed

In South Boston, the state police force is waging war on Irish-American organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Frank Costello. While Billy quickly gains Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan, a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the state police as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the mob and the police that there's a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy-and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself. But is either willing to turn on the friends and comrades they've made during their long stints undercover?
This was an awesome film it was a cop movie and yet also a gangster movie. DiCaprio, Wahlberg, Damon and Nicholson, and Martin Sheen all do an amazing job. The story is strong and makes you stay attached, like most Scorsese films i give it a 5/5.

Movie Review 14: Pulp Fiction

The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega are two hitmen who are out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer, mob boss Marsellus Wallace. Wallace has also asked Vincent to take his wife Mia out a few days later when Wallace himself will be out of town. Butch Coolidge is an aging boxer who is paid by Wallace to lose his next fight. The lives of these seemingly unrelated people are woven together comprising of a series of funny, bizarre and uncalled-for incidents. Now this is probably the best action film ever made. Though it confused me the first time i watched it i love this movie. It is probably also the best independent film ever made. The actors were great, there acting was awesome the story was amazing. Oh yeah and the music rocked. I give it a 5/5.

Movie Review 13: American Gangster

Plot: Following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government. Based on a true story.

My Opinion: This movie was awesome in my mind it was like a modernized version of the Godfather. Russel Crowe did amazing, as Did Denzel Washington. This is probably the best Gangster Film since the Godfather. (Yes i know the Departed is good and Good fellas but i have not seen those yet)

Movie Review 12: Avatar

In the year 2154, the RDA corporation is mining Pandora, the lush, Earthlike moon of the planet Polyphemus, in the Alpha Centauri system. Parker Selfridge, (Giovanni Ribisi), the administrator, employs former marines as mercenaries to provide security. The humans aim to exploit Pandora’s reserves of unobtanium, a valuable mineral.
Pandora is inhabited by the na’vi, a paleolithic species of sapient humanoids with feline characteristics.[16] Physically stronger and several feet taller than humans, the blue-skinned indigenes live in harmony with Nature and worship a mother goddess called Eywa.
Humans cannot breathe Pandora’s atmosphere. In order to move about Pandora uninhibited, human scientists have genetically engineered human-na’vi hybrid bodies called Avatars, which are controlled by genetically matched human operators. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic former marine, arrives on Pandora to replace his murdered twin brother, an Avatar operator. Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), the head of the Avatar Program, considers him an inadequate replacement for his brother, relegating him to a bodyguard role.
While Jake is escorting Augustine and biologist Norm Spellman (Joel David Moore) in their Avatar forms, the group is attacked by a large predator, and Jake becomes separated and lost. Attempting to survive the night in Pandora’s dangerous jungles, he is rescued by Neytiri (Zoë Saldaña), a female na’vi. Neytiri brings Jake back to Hometree, which is inhabited by Neytiri’s clan, the Omaticaya. Mo’at, (C. C. H. Pounder), the na’vi shaman and Neytiri’s mother, instructs her to teach him their ways.
Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), the mercenary leader of the security forces, learns of Jake’s relationship with the Omaticaya, and offers to get him new legs in exchange for providing intelligence about the natives and learning what it will take to make them abandon Hometree, which rests above a large deposit of unobtanium.
During the next three months, Jake becomes close to Neytiri and the Omaticaya, and begins to prefer the life he lives through the Avatar. Jake’s attachment begins to erode his loyalty towards the corporation and the humans and when he is finally initiated into the tribe, he and Neytiri choose each other as mates. Jake’s change of loyalty is revealed when he disables a bulldozer as it destroys the Tree of Voices; upon seeing this, Col. Quaritch forcibly disconnects him from his Avatar, and presents Selfridge and Augustine with a vlog in which Jake had admitted that his mission was fruitless; that the humans had nothing the Omaticaya considered to be of value and that they would never abandon Hometree. This convinces Selfridge that negotiations would be fruitless and he orders the destruction of Hometree.

Over all this movie was epic. The Music was amazing, the actors were awesome, as was the story. This movie actually took 10 years to make, most of the time was spent waiting for technology to get better, so James Cameron could make his vision come to life. I give Avatar a 6/5 (i only will give 2 6/5's a month)

Movie Review 11: The Last Samurai

In Japan, Civil War veteran Captain Nathan Algren trains the Emperor's troops to use modern weapons as they prepare to defeat the last of the country's samurais. But Algren's passion is swayed when he is captured by the samurai and learns about their traditions and code of honor. Now in my mind Zwick did an amazing job making this film. The actors were awesome the music by Hans Zimmer was amazing. There were in my mind four really good scenes.
1. When the female character Taka dresses him Cruise's character for battle.
2. When Algren helps Kasimoto kill himself (Because it is there culture)
 3. When the Emperor asks Algren to tell him how Kasimoto dies, and Algren Responds "I shall tell you how he lived"
4. When Algren tells Kasimoto about the battle of Thermopylae, and then later Kasimoto asks "What happened to the warriors at Thermopylae?" and Algren responds "Dead to the last man"
This film shows what it means for a warrior to have honor. That there are causes worth fighting for.  The battle sequences were amazing, this is truly one of Tom Cruise's best films. I give it a 5/5
