Metal #0 0

Make no mistake, when reading this you must understand that despite its name and numbering, this issue isn't a standalone issue or a one-shot story, it has no beginning, middle and end, you don't get answers to anything nor you wont understand pretty much anything of what happens here because what this is, is the #0 issue to the Metal event and in that aspect, it does its job wonderfully; it pitches you several ideas, it gives you some basic concepts of what all will be about, it brings differen...

Jay and God 0

A conclusion that doesnt gives answers and feels a little hollow; not really what one expeteced of this mini event but understandable if it is considered the continuation of the DC Universe Rebirth #1 and the 2nd chapter of the 2 year long DC vs Watchmen storyOur heroes are in hot pursuit of Reverse Flash trying to warn him about his future if he continues but they fail and Eobard arrives with God where he is quickly put in his place. Meanwhile our heroes are in trouble as the cosmic treadmill t...

2 bats, 1 flash 0

What a great issue this wasBatman and Flash arrived at the Flashpoint (not alternate timeline or universe but the actual Earth 0 present...somehow) which according to Flash shouldn't exist anymore because he corrected the events that caused it which seems to suggest someone is keeping it alive and wants them to be there for some reason, but Bruce has something else to worry about as he finally is face to face with his father. The talk between the Waynes was very heartwarming, because you see how ...

The travel 0

This issue can be split in 2 parts with both having different themes and both done very good and I enjoyed the whole thing even though it seems the story doesn't move forward a lot.Loved how the first half of the issue was treated as a crime investigation about what happened to Eobard and the button, setting the crime scene, analyzing the evidence, checking motives, looking for clues to what to do next, it was all fantastically done; all this of course thru Barry's eyes which also gives us a gre...

A long 1 minute 0

Right from the beginning we get the impression this story will have some long game repercussions as it opens in a very unique way: with a hockey game which Saturn Girl is watching and warns us somebody is going to get killed and it will have serious consequences in the future.Batman who is also watching the events of the game (hey, he is human and also likes sports) turns it off and accidentally throws the button near the Psycho Pirate's mask which causes a reaction making him see his father fro...

Havok's fate and Dreamslayer's decision 0

Overall, this issue may not be the most exciting but it certainly had some interesting closing plots involving the multiverse and the microverse that I hope we dont have to wait too long to be resolvedMost of the extremists have been taken down but still Havok and Dreamslayer are still standing. Dreamslayer's conversation with Ray was more interestng than Havok's fight, and his ultimate decision is a mystery to us but it looks like this wont be the last we see of him. On the other front and unli...

Rebellion 0

We begin with Havok having some conversations with the leaders of surrounding countries to "persuade" them to join him while his army executes his orders to kill anyone that disobeys; these panels were good because they showed Havok's philosophy of ruling through fear and suppressing freedom.Of course the JLA wont stay idle and instead of storming the country to defeat the bad guys Batman decides they instead will join the revolutionaries and do what they want. This was a great move that helps d...

Turn of events 0

I like how the cliffhanger from last issue is resolved in an unexpected way...lets just say it went bad for one of the Extremists and thta it could have been worst for the JLA who now is tasked with a different mission: incite a revolution to free a country from their newly and rightfully elected villain leader. The league is going to have a way to figure out what to do, on one hand they know Havok has bad itentions despite saying its for the good but on the other hand the people want Havok to le...

The team's first test 0

Great start for the series. The team has barely formed, many of these heroes are inexperienced or have not worked together so they start with small tasks which I think is the right decision. But learning period doesnt last long because when Ryan and Frost jus finished installing their HQ's alert systems, they are warned of an alternate Earth incursion by Lord Havok and the Extremist in New York. The JLA doesn't wastes time and quickly engages the threat but the inexperience of the members is show...

If you play with fire you'll get burn 0

Olive is finally face to face with the person she hates the most and she listens to no reason while Pomeline and Colton are about to face their fate at the hands of Bookworm...there is no shortage of exciting moments in hereDown in the caves, Bookworm pulls a classic villain move by telling us all about his plan and why he wanted the Book of Gotham so much (something I expected and something didnt but of course we dont know much about it despite getting a lot of background info about it on the l...

Predictable plot 0

Remember how last issue we were teased some great fights thru different time periods against an army of timeless robots with the League members each having an uphill battle with odds against them? well... they finally happened...out of panel of course. As it is been Hitch's style through this series, the exciting parts we want to see are never shown and instead of devoting must of the issue to these awesome battles that really needed to show how threatening the timeless could be as a villain, in...

Timeless plan 0

In this issue the big boss of the timeless reveals his big plan to Superman (which sounds very crazy) while the rest of the team prepares for their own mini war...but I still find everything boring and I don't buy any of the crap Hitch is trying to sell story wiseWith Superman's situation for the Rebirth stage revealed it is weird to read something were it hasn't been brought up (kind of like reading post-event issues when the main event hasn't finishing like Marvel likes to do) because instantl...

Hello Ray 0

If this issue accomplished something was to get me very interested in this Ray character with no prior knowledge whatsoever by telling an interesting origin and an entertaining story and want to read more of him althought it is not yet explained why Batman chose him for the teamRaymond is the son of the golden age hero The Ray and he inherited his powers to absorb light that ultimately killed his father so he is kept almost like a prisoner by his mom so he doesnt hurt anybody like he did to his ...

Olive's truth 0

This must have been one of the most shocking issues of the series so far as every few pages there is a big revelation and the story is not over yet!Right from the start the way evil Eric is taken down will take you by surprise, but thats only the beginning, because when the moving platform reaches the bottom Pomeline (with Colton) finally gets her hands on the famous Book of Gotham and we start to realize why Pomeline wanted it so much and from its first page we learn a big secret about Arkham's...

Still very mediocre writing 0

Its all talk and no action in this boring and quick to read issue where the plot advances slowlySo much exposition going nowhere and bad dialogue are the biggest problem here because it felt like either you were getting a weird "explanation" about time waves, rewriting history or some other sci-fi concepts hard to understand and believe, or either you just got a repetition of what was said last issue. Its also hard to pay attention to the story when most of the characters don't know whats going ...

The new team 0

There was no much to see here as the issue deals with Batman assembling his new team and the story is a mere introduction to them however it can be seen that the characters are well written and for now that is all that mattersBlack Canary was easy to get on board, Atom got in thanks to Lobo who persuaded Batman to take Choi with Palmer missing, Ray is recruited by Choi and is not clear why he was chosen (maybe the answer is in his Rebirth issue) and Vixen finally accepted after many requests (se...

Get all the clues! 0

While the trial is in recess Colton has escaped and with Pomeline in possession of a key evidence to help him the team splits again with Kyle going for Colton while Olive, Amy and Maps go to the mansion to look for PomelineWhat we have here (and last issue too) is a brilliantly written detective book, we have our heroes finding clues without feeling forced by the plot and revisiting old events and locations while using new knowledge or items they didn't have the last time, just because of that ...

The big story that started in issue #1 and even before starts to takes shape and while the trial begins Pomeline brings her mother to help but at the same time decides to go on a last minute hunt for the mysterious and powerful book with Tristan, leaving Colton hurt and putting his future in jeopardy. The plot is getting very interesting and we even got guest appearances by Bruce Wayne and aunt HarrietThis mystery has been brewing since the last series and looks like it will soon be resolved; Po...

One night at the circus 0

This one-shot takes says it takes place before Second Semester and brings a suspicious circus to campus and as headmaster Hammers orders it to leave, Olive seems to be delighted by a young boy promoting the circus to the students; all this makes the rest of the team want to find the truth behind this circus and what their investigation has revealed about themFirst I want to tell that the art although a bit different from what we're used to in the series, it really fits very well and the colors a...

The witch and the map 0

With Maps missing Kyle finally alerts the rest of the team about whats going on and while looking for her they come into the witch club and their leader Haxan who are collecting some books for an unknown reason and among them is Maps. After pursuing and losing her the team catches another witch and discovers whats the deal with this club so its time to stop them and save Maps, but no all will end well when Pomeline and Colton run into some troublesThis was a great 2 issue story that didn't just ...

The witch club 0

As schools resumes classes and the detective club is back in business but it appears there is a shortage of mysteries to investigate so Maps proposes to split and talk to students to see if they can find a juicy one; also Olive asks the team if Amy can hang out with them because she doesn't know anybody else but this doesn't sits well with them and specially Maps (poor Maps, how many times does she has to go through the same situation?). Later Kyle finds out there are some students missing and M...

To infinity and beyond 0

Since its a new arc I'll give Hitch once again the benefit of the doubt but anyway the story already seems too convoluted (albeit more interesting than anything he has done so far in the book) and points towards being another disaster. Negative points for including aspects from his previous JLA series which I dont know if he left it unfinishedThe story just sounds ridiculous and over complicated; it seems a religious group from the future wants to erase all super powered people from history and ...

Satisfying and enjoybable but not great 0

If you liked previous issues you will like this final chapter, however I think the arc as a whole is a let down for a LOT of plot inconsistenciesMongul has taken control of Clark's body (because apparently White Mercy has somehow the ability to transfer one mind from one body to another or because it seems that's how this dreamworld works) and while Jon "contains" him, White Mercy confesses that from spying our heroes in their dreams she learned how lo love and how to be a real person like a mod...

Nice to meet you Amy, I already dislike you 0

This is an okay return to our beloved series where nothing much appears to happen now but that later will have some big ramificationsThe story deals with Olive being the only person at the Academy during winter vacations (because in case you are new to the series, she has no family left) and on her last solitary she is introduced to her new roommate Amy who is your typical bad influence girl who doesn't like anybody and likes to cause trouble for the tinniest things. While on the obligatory tour...

Free at last 0

Orlando once again shows he knows how to write one of the characters he will be using in JLA which increases my expectations for the new series.Decided to not let Frost go, Waller puts Caitlin thru some last horrible days at Belle Reve in hopes she cracks under the pressure to prove she is just another bad guy. What this issue did (just in case the JLvsSS event didnt emphasized it enough or if you skipped the event) is to show that Killer Frost really wants to be a new person, she wants to be se...

Atomic rebirth 0

When the DC Universe Rebirth one-shot released I was excited to have Atom back in the mix but then when they said it was going to be Ryan Choi and not Ray Palmer I didnt like it...boy does this issue changed my mindThe issue takes place before the events of the DC Rebirth one-shot and ends with what we saw on said issue; it tells us the story of Ryan Choi since he arrived at the university and how he originally was a misfit, but thanks to his intelligence and willingness (and a little help from ...

A great scooby doo type story 0

Oh yeah, Fletcher and Cloonan still have it.One stormy night the GA belltower is destroyed by a lightning but not before Olive saw a figure jumping from it carrying what seemed to be a coffin; the next day when cleaning duties were about to start it seems most of the academy's students (including Olive) seem to be infected with a mysterious illness, Pomeline thinks its a vampire because her roommate and others had shown to have some strange fang marks on their necks and takes Tristan with her wh...

Mongul's daughter 0

Everyhting is explained in this issue but when your talking about dreams things get a little complicated.Ivy explains to Lois that because of her connection to the Green, she can somewhat use the Black Mercy's abilities to consciously enter the dream world, here she found unknowingly to her Mongul's unconscious manifestation of his daughter named White Mercy who tricked Ivy into showing her how this world worked so he could, I guess, take control of Superman's body while his mind is trapped in th...

No one is Robin 0

As I said in the first part of this crossover review the story started promisingly seeming to deal with police brutality and social movements against that or being about the real robins becoming teachers to new ones, but after the 2nd issue when Grayson betrayed everyone "for their own good" this thing went full retarded as not only the story turned out to be less interesting and making little sense, dragging the story more than it should have, having action scenes that were unbelievable in a ba...

Worst therapy session in comics history 0

What a boring issue where our heroes spent all their time whining and blaming each other. Hitch continues to not giving us any reason to buy this bookThis stand alone story starts like most in Hitch's run, when a faceless forgettable alien force appears out of nowhere and with no explanation (maybe is for the best because really who cares at this point), but this time they brought a mega giant spaceship that one-shots the JL and the rest of the story takes pace in a little pocket under some rubl...

Dont waste your time and money 0

This first issue (and 2nd part) was the pinnacle of the crossover as it planted some serious threads we could see in the real world: what happens when the government installs unconstitutional laws that target everybody for dumb reasons? what are the dangers of vigilantism? why young people shouldn't try to emulate heroes even if they have the right reasons? All this starts when a young teen participating of this robin movement tries to stop a burglary on a convenience store but ends up killing th...

A robin's life is not easy 0

Keeping up with the good habit of showing us the robins and their own problems, we continue Izzy's feud with her mother and her struggles to not be expelled from school, Dax improving his mechanical skills and trying to re-team with Dre who himself is too busy tracking the Jokers and figuring their plan and Duke finally tries to reconnect with Riko when suddenly the Jokers show up at the school to take it hostageAs always (or at least more recently) the character interactions are great and each ...

School's out 0

Not many times in comics or other mediums you get to see teamwork as good as this and the story was exciting all the wayWe start with Riko and Duke as the school is being taken hostage and they trying to hide while saving most people they can; at the same time Dre who infiltrated the Jokers takes advantage of Smiley leaving his sidekicks alone to go deal with the police to start a mutiny; and while Dax and Izzy arrive a little late to the party, the prove to be essential while making a great ent...

Rise of the Joker army 0

While things are not going very well in Duke's life, or Izzy's or Riko's, things look promising for Smiley after he finally got some people to be part of his movement, the first battle between the robins and the jokers takes place in an alley when Dre saves a family when they were getting out of the movies (sound familiar?) and we get more of the robins and their daily life...

Every Batman has its Joker 0

Smiley (the dude who attacked Duke at the beginning of the series) is getting out of juvenile prison, and he just wants to have fun. Most of the issue is dedicated to Smiley and how he became a fan of the Joker. On the other hand Duke and the rest of the robins seem to be very distant and each one followed its own path after Robin War; getting out of the robin life allowed Duke to finally finds his parents and allowed us to see how the rest of the team spends their time nowSmiley is an interesti...

Gonna miss this team 0

Dealing with last issue ending we see Duke in the police station after declaring on the Jokers situation and speaking again with Leslie Thompkins about his growth as a person and having a new purpose in life; I think this worked very well as a way to go full circle from the first issue conversation between these 2 characters. After that, the story presents us with other former member of the robins who after his family gets in some financial trouble decides to help some guys break into a Wayne a...

Yearbook review 0

The yearbook story comes to an end, half its mini stories were good half were uninteresting, some had good art others took a lot of liberties with different styles; in the end all of them summed up to make an ok storyThru the last 3 issues there was this story about why Robin stole Map's yearbook; it is thru this overarching story that the other mini stories offer some background about past event that impact today's situation and like I said before, some stories were entertaining and other not s...

Cant recommend it as a tie-in or a Gotham Academy issue 0

As a tie-in this takes place after Robin War #1 and starts with a GA student being expelled after he was busted for being a robin while chasing his roommate for stealing money from the school and both witnessing a zombie coming out of the greenhouse. The issue deals with the Detective Club trying to solve the mystery of the zombie with Riko (from We Are Robin) getting involved just by chance (or plot requirement); the zombie turns out to have a connection to both Olive and the Court of Owls (who ...

Waller's family 0

This issue was advertised as an epilogue to JL vs SS, and it is, but in a completely different way to what you saw on the main event; it surprised me in a good way but it is not was it said it would be.From the event conclusion you know Rustam still wants revenge on Waller and his first step is to comfront her with her sons (SAY WHAT?!) to prove her she doesn't know as much as she brags; her childen on their part are not very happy to see her and question her motivations and her whole identity a...

The day no one saw coming and never came 0

For start, the description of the issue is a lie, this story happens after JL vs SS #5 and follows Steve Trevor surviving on Washington after Eclipso arrived and turned everyone evilThe story is good, it has some horror elements as you follow the hero through a destroyed city infested by possessed evil creatures (kind of like a zombie apocalypse) as he searches for his familSeeing the darkest side of people is some of the most frightening things so I liked the theme of the issue; also the story ...
