The Morituri Project

Archaeologists and adventurers Elijah Snow and Dr. Henry Jones Jr. find a derelict trans-dimensional sentient ship beneath inselberg monolith Ayers Rock in Australia, ca. 1912

At the age of 83, Dr. Erskine, aided by Terry Sloane and Dr. Michael Holt, synthesizes the definitive version of long sought after super-solider serum, ca. 1939; first base-line human volunteer subject, Steve Rogers, dies due to cellular entropy.
Drs. Gargunza, Mayfair, Tuolema, Richards and McCoy launch project “Griffin”: the successful grafting of Viltrumite abilities onto humans, ca. 1942; only 27% of those compatible with Miraclo (1,036,800) are able be subjected to the procedure.
Drs. Gargunza, Bishop and Bell finally unlock the hyper-cloning and mind transfer technologies from the crashed Qys ship, codename “Marvel”, however the mind transfer is only one way. Drs. McCoy and Richards determine that even though a human subject must be a Marvel recipient in order to undergo the super-solider process, only 9% of successful Marvel subjects (ca. 15,863 people) are compatible with the process.
1947, super-solider initiative is finally launched. Benton, Tyler and Strange tweak Miraclo formula into its 2.0 version, codename “Gladiator”.
1948; alien armada arrives within the Solar system and soon lays siege to Earth. Save for its metahuman soldiers Earth outclassed and out-manned on all fronts.
1951; The tactical situation is dire and there is a desperate need to defeat the invaders. The "Gladiator" process (3,0 version) has unexpected results; there is an element of randomness to the re-sequencing of the human genome undergone both under Miraclo and the super-solider formula resulting in several distinct archetypes of wide variation in power.

Amongst the things found once total victory over the invading aliens is achieved, is the fact they had the capability to terraform any planet to optimal life-sustaining levels but did not do so because they remained ignorant about the technologies they had plundered. Upon discovery of this fact, Reed Richards, Randall Dowling, William Bell and Henry Pym put forth a proposal to terraform all planets within the Sol system to Earth-normal; the subsequent directive calls for our solar system to become a trinary one, in order to sustain life on all nine planets.
