Cooooool! I loved the New Universe and while I had my Marvel digital subscription was still pissed at them that they hadn't gotten the entire back catalog of it scanned yet. Faves were DP7, Star Brand, and Nightmask. As time wore on they got a bit less great but probably one of the things Marvel has done in their history that had me the most excited to read another issue. Very cool.

How would you feel about setting up a petition

  • To bring back Peter Parker, because there is only one Spider-man
  • To prevent or change the relationship with Mary Jane, because it just isn't right
  • or if you simply believe it was the wrong way to go.
  • or at the very least let us if & when Slott brings back Peter

if you think this is a good idea let me know.

Eventually Parker will return, in some way.....be patient

(its Marvel's mascot....)

Just because Spidey is Marvel's mascot doesn't mean there's necessarily an understanding of what they're doing/have done. It would be easy for idiot/douchebaggy types to make an argument that there's nowhere interesting left for Peter Parker's character to go, and if you just switched things up Spider-Man could just be much more gangbusters awesome. For people like me there is no separating the two, anyone else slinging webs isn't really Spider-Man, just some shade. Even if Peter is brought back (which I'm sure he will be, probably/hopefully sooner than later) I think shaking things out this way was a terrible mistake and plain disrespectful to the character. Weird, in the aftermath of the Civil War with Steve Rogers being killed and Bucky taking over the mantle (though I still wish it had been Clint Barton as he wasn't really being Hawkeye at the time anyway and it would have been cool to see him, of all people, try to bear the weight of the uniform) nothing felt wrong. Something about this though, not even sure which element, just really feels messed up. If they really wanted a Doc Ock with Spidey powers SO many ways to accomplish that without killing off Pete via the clones (Kane) or even through some weird means with the symbiote. Just kinda pissy about it. :)

I agree with the sentiment that the people in charge of the title seem to really be out of touch with the essence of the character they were entrusted with. The love most people have is for Peter Parker, not for "Spider-Man". What makes even less sense about the need to do this is with all of the clones and also-ran Spider-Man variants out there anymore why? Why kill Peter Parker? You telling me what because Ock has Peter's memories he'll quip and joke in a self-deprecating manner as he's fighting? That he'll add a flippant quality and jabs at Wolverine and company while hanging out with the Avengers? In addition they've already gotten to experiment with killing Peter Parker in the Ultimate universe anyway, why the need to do this? Even though I can't imagine how Peter wouldn't somehow come back I question the value in the exercise other than simple attention. Just as many things as I've read that have been tough on characters, temporarily killed characters, etc the seeming lack of love in all of this for Peter Parker in this I find pretty offensive.
