I think it was 1968 when I picked up some new DC titles, things like the original "Secret Six," "Deadman," and "Bat Lash," as well as some slightly older comics like "Teen Titans." They weren't like many of the comics DC had been publishing.  There was a feel to the stories that neither DC or Marvel (save Steranko's "Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.") had.  I soon realized it was the editor, Dick Giordano, who was responsible for the sensibilities of these comics.

I was sad when most of these titles disappeared within the year.  (The exception was "Teen Titans," but Giordano was pulled off of it after having the characters ditch their powers and costumes for a while, a bold move I liked -- but, I suspect, most readers did not.)  I didn't know about Continuity until some years later, but I liked the work I did see Giordano doing, especially his art on the Modesty Blaise graphic novel for DC in the early 90s.

I also liked the man the few times I saw him in person.  He always had time to stop and chat with someone, whether he knew them or not.

His influence on comic books has not been noticed the way Frank Miller's or Neil Gaiman's has.  But, in his life, he did his best to do the best comics that he could.  And, many times, his best was very good indeed.

Supergirl is a cute teenager.  Power Girl is a sexy, mature woman.  PG all the way.  (Which is how far I'd like to go with her!)

I like the Power Girl series, but, if you think, the "nude scene" makes less sense than the average bit of burlesque on Benny Hill.

It picks up right where we left PG in the previous issue, getting far too little sleep after a battle with alien monsters and an encounter with Vartox (his first post-Crisis appearance I believe?).  She then jumps into a showerm where she shaves, brushes her teeth, and then hears something coming from her front door.  She sees an envelope and her x-ray vision reveals the envelope contains a photo of her changing to and/or from Karen Starr.
Clad only in a towel, she starts chasing after a kid (a shorter, pudgier version of Jimmy Olsen in appearance) who left the photo.  She dashes down the stairs after him, runs past a neighbor, and literally collars the kid, at which point her towel drops, giving the kid and the neighbor a good look at her naked body.  (The reader is not so lucky, due to a strategically placed bunch of carrots and an arm.
To the best of my memory, and it's pretty good about these matters, this is the most we've seen of Power Girl ever since she appeared.  I have no problems with such scenes.  I well remember with a smile my first view of the classic Black Widow shower scene in Amazing Adventures Vol. II, No. 5.  (See http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2009/08/24/a-year-of-cool-comic-book-moments-day-236/ )
But I do like them to make sense.

We've already seen Power Girl use her x-ray vision.  Why can't she use it to keep track of the kid?  (Don't tell me it's because her apartment walls are painted with lead-based paint?  Does anyone really believe that, if her apartment had such paint, she wouldn't have removed it soon after (or before) moving it to remove this impediment to one of her powers?)  Plus, she has super-speed!  She could've easily ducked back into her apartment, put on her clothes, and then resumed the chase so quickly that the kid would've had no chance to get away.  Yes, Power Girl's been shown to be hot-headed and impulsive.  But I think she would've done something to keep herself better covered before continuing the pursuit.

I'm sorry, but I feel this was done purely to give PG fans a quick thrill.  (And long nights locked up in the bathroom.)

This thread reminds me of my theory that The Nanny and Steve Urkel (from Family Matters) are the actual parents of Black Bolt.

"Why are all women in comics skinny? why are all men in comics buff? (there are exceptions of course :p)"

I don't think I'd refer to Power Girl as skinny.

Also, for a some interesting thoughts on this, check out the current issue of Wonder Woman.  (She teams up with Black Canary, who's on the cover with her.)  Keep in mind, these are written by a woman.

Les Lye, who played Ross, Barth (Barf), Blip, indeed, all the adult men on the Canadian TV series "You Can't Do That On Television," (which ran for a long time on Nickelodeon and was one of that network's first really popular shows) has passed away at 84.

In the 80s, though I was far older than the target audience for the series, it helped me get through some pretty bad periods of depression. My time, years before the series, as a teacher helped me enjoy the show a little more than most adults.

I also understand Mr. Lye did some stuff that went over well in Canada, particularly a show called "Willy and Floyd."

For those who are interested, CTV has a page about him, which has quite a few tributes to him.  Yes, I think the one signed "alanis" is from Alanis Morrissette -- she was on YCDTOTV for a while, y'know.

I'll miss him.

I know, four vs three, with lots of powers on one side, barely any on the other.  But would that stop Catwoman, Harley, and Ivy?  And, of course, we'd get the great face-off between Black Cat and Catwoman, which SHOULD'VE been what we saw in the DC vs. Marvel crossover, not Catwoman vs. Elektra.
