Characters should age - and they should die.  Teams should fade from  existence.  The stories will be around for our children - like all the myths of old, "The Three Musketeers", "Lord of the Rings" - stories and characters that had a beginning, middle, and end.  Are they over?  Sure - but I bet there is an eager 11 year old reading the Lord of the Rings right now.  Why do Superhero comics need to be any different?  If there was an end in sight confrontations between Batman and the Joker would have even more weight - sort of like the TAS in the DCAU.  I'd love for Grayson to remain Batman - for Peter Parker to maybe get it right one day.  For the X-Men to really change and progress.  I enjoy the stories still - but I'd enjoy them much more if they progressed.  And my children (and their children) can read the old stories and love them just as much (Phoenix Saga anyone - still good) just like that 11 year old reading Tolkien.

This bug really took the wind out of my sails when my post was rejected - I've been going through my bronze age comics ready to do a bunch of updates and lo and behold there are artists listed - but not the actual issue artists.  After writing a plot, filling out locations, and putting in the credits for the issue I mistakenly took out the cover artists.  Except I had no clue they were in there as the cover artists!  I nearly cashed this contributing stuff in to spend my time on something more useful.  Please get it fixed soon!

Same reason the Outsiders is still read today - the X-Men resonate with those teenage feelings of being out of place.  I was a hardcore Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, etc fan as a kid - when did I start to like the X-Men?  12 or so - before that Claremont's scripts would have been too wordy for me - but at the beginning of those early teenage years they caught my attention.  I also think that the team has a stronger bond then most teams - even the FF.  Heck, isn't that why the Three Musketeers is still around - the close bonds of friends and comrades in arms?  Lastly, it occurs to me that the most beloved characters in Marvel seem to have had an establishing run of at least one creator - typically a writer.  The archetypal FF story is based on the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby mythos.  Spider-Man on the Lee/Ditko.  X-Men - Claremont and xxxxx.  Without such a long consistent run would the X-Men still be such a cohesive unit or merely another JLA, JLI, JL anything that merely has stretches of decent runs?

Do you think the Marvel Ultimate line has any value anymore - or should it just go away?

I think the Riddler is not a good choice - for normal movie goers he is way too much like the Joker.  I think taking down a Penguin or something at the beginning would be a fine nod to the fans (or some other villain similarly challenged for inclusion in the Nolan films).  Whichever villain is chosen, that villain must reflect the conflict in Batman for that movie - I'd love to see this end with such serious destruction that Batman realizes he is no longer a solution and works to do good just as Bruce Wayne.  Then in five years, Nolan gets the itch and they do the Dark Knight Returns!  Or perhaps all of the villains are somewhat Batman inspired - Catwoman, etc to show that his violence has only begotten further violence.
As for Thundercats - I think it was a great kids' show - and does not translate well when viewed by an adult.  Decent for nostalgia's sake - I'm not certain what a new show could really offer.  Oh, and good for Joe Q. Screw the haters!

I agree with those that say they are "on-call" - since being a superhero is not a paying gig for most they can't take "time off."  However, if they see something going down (or sense it or whatever) they can get involved.  But heroes need down time and rest as well (like those awesome X-Men baseball games).  The Daredevil movie (director's cut anyway - I don't own the original cut) shows Matt Murdock dealing with his need to sleep versus hearing every crime going down with his super hearing thing.  He still needed to rest - maybe this is similar (and even a metaphor) for the modern working person.  Work can go on 24/7 now with the various electronic devices and communication - but you can't work non-stop until everything is done.  You have to take time off lest you lose your family (for which you work to provide) or burn out.  Humanitarian workers face this all the time - the need for help is nearly endless - they can't help everyone 24/7.  So they do their best but try to live a life as well.  So yeah, employed superheroes (i.e. in their secret identity) get holidays off - and try to make the most of the day while helping as much as they can.

Did anyone else think that the new origins issue suggested sexual abuse (besides just mental and physical) by Emma's dad?

I've said this elsewhere but this title will be dead faster than a dolphin caught in a tuna net.
