New Dragon Ball Movie Announced!

Now don't worry, this movie isn't the sequel to the abomination that was Dragonball: Evolution. This is another anime Dragon Ball Z movie set to be released in Japan in March 2013. This marks the latest Dragon Ball movie since the Path to Power. Now I know what some, probably most of you are thinking, why aren't we getting any new English dubbed Dragon Ball media? Yes the Kai series was a great love letter to the original but as most of you who've played a lot of Dragon Ball video games, playing the same story over and over again can wear thin. There have been a couple of Dragon Ball productions that have yet to be English dubbed. One is the Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. When this story was included on every copy of Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2, this marked a real gap in the market for a new English dubbed episode. But instead it was only done in Japanese with English subtitles for the English version. Which is strange given that Hatchihyack was given an Engish voice actor in DB: Raging Blast 2. In addition to this, Yo! Son Goku and his Friends would be another Dragon Ball production not dubbed in English. Admittedly both have only appeared recently but the way in which the English version has defined the voices of the Dragon Ball characters for its fans meant that when I saw the original, I hungered for an English dub. Still do. Perhaps with time. After all it was a while before the English dub of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z came about.

Anyway this is only recently announced news and unless you’re Japanese or can read Japanese, I don’t know any other information other than what’s been mentioned on this link: http://www.animenewsnetwork.co.uk/news/2012-07-10/toei-toriyama-work-on-march-2013-dragon-ball-z-film . In any case this is good news for Dragon Ball fans as the Dragon Ball movies have usually been dubbed into English eventually. What are your thoughts on this?

Should look exactly like this.

this is gonna be awesome!

@AweSam: That video was pretty good. Better than Dragon Ball: Evolution which really says something about the quality of that film.

@jhazzroucher: If Funimation do decide to dub it in English, it'll be a while before we see that version.

Evolution was the worst piece of crap ever.

Too true. Thankfully there's no sequel to that rubbish.

Agreeing with most people on Evolution being horrible, such a sad excuse for a DB movie. But I am looking foward to this new one, been hoping for some new stuff for so long.

Am wondering what its going to be about....though really, I think I would prefer just a re-telling of Z. Focus on all the characters, make them better instead of leaving them in the dust....I mean sure it might take a while seeing as there are 9 fighters(not including Chaotzui since he really didn't do anything at all...AT ALL.) It always bothered me that, while they had gravity training rooms, and all that better then what they were training with already that Yamcha/Tien/Krillin didn't use any of it to help them...

Ah. Not live action? But still, pretty cool news. Excited.

Wait? Is this a stand-alone project by Toriyama?

That would be interesting though I'm guessing it'll follow on from the Buu Saga. Probably set after it like Wrath of the Dragon was. And I think that humans couldn't handle the increased gravity, even enhanced humans like Tien/Yamcha/Krillin. Yamcha was nearly crushed when he tried to train.

@Deranged Midget: Possibly. In my link, Toriyama does say that he's giving a great deal of involvement in the screen writing process. And I didn't know you liked DBZ. Another surprise interest we have in common!

@Lvenger: Interesting...

And yes! DBZ was one of my favourite shows as a child growing up. I've seen the series countless times over!

@Lvenger:  While true, its not like he couldn't have started lower. He already could withstand 10X normal gravity on King Kai's planet, he would just need to pace himself is all. I dunno....it just bothered me, they had all this training equipment and only the saiyans ever used any of it. I mean not saying the humans get as strong as the saiyans, but at least let them be able to put up a decent fight like in Dragonball.

If this ends up like Dragonball : Evolution than I will lose all hope for the DBZ Live Action Movies.

Posted by Lvenger

@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: It's an anime film not a live action one I'm afraid. Some serious thought needs to be done about live action DB films.

@Deranged Midget: Same here. Which is your favourite saga? Mine's the Android Saga.

@Wolfrazer: The humans all got dimished with the introduction of Saiyans, Namekians, other space aliens and androids really. it's quite sad that such integral characters were diminished and ignored in DBZ.

@Lvenger: That's good. Anime film ftw!

I hate live action films for cartoon series. They always fail miserably.

Posted by Lvenger

@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: Don't they just? There's probably some other live action adaption of a cartoon but I can't think of one right now.

I know they would never do it, but I wish they would continue the show and quick up where GT left off.

I hope it's the abridged edition.

@Lvenger: Oooh, favourite saga eh? I wasn't exactly a fan of most of the Namek saga but I loved the end of the Frieza saga; Goku vs Frieza.

I'm inclined to say the Android saga as well. Everything seemed so rushed after the Cell saga :P

I guess I'm one of the few who actually liked GT. xD

@War Killer:  How?
Posted by Lvenger

@sesquipedalophobe: If only. That show rocks. Can't wait for Season 3! Are they doing the Majin Buu saga as well?

@Deranged Midget: Quite a long fight but Frieza was such an awesome villain. My favourite in fact. Sure there are more powerful foes and Goku even mocks Frieza's power in Yo! Son Goku and his Friends Return! But when it came to cruelty and callousness, Frieza had no equal. I prefer the new voice actor to the original though.

@War Killer: I'm afraid you are. In GT's defense, it did have good stories. Space adventures, the destruction of Earth, the consequences of overusing the Dragon Balls. They were just executed poorly.

Posted by Deranged Midget

@War Killer: GT wasn't bad, they just threw out a lot of continuity out the window.

@Lvenger: Best part of Frieza, he was the only villain who lacked regeneration and fought literally everyone without any aid or rest. It made him that much more badass and calculating!

@Lvenger: We'll see. I check it out at work mostly when I need to laugh the pain away.
Posted by dccomicsrule2011

The first one made Dare Devil look like one of the best films ever.

Posted by Lvenger

@Deranged Midget: I know. In the Android Saga, at least Cell had the excuse he had Piccolo's cells in him. With Majin Buu, it was like "Giant pink demon that acts like a spoiled child can regenerate! Deal with it!" The last DBZ saga did have some charms though. Fusion and Super Saiyan 3. Super Saiyan 4 in GT completely ruined SSJ3. I thought it was a cool concept that such a dramatic power increase would result in great deal of energy consumption. Not to mention SSJ3 looked badass!

Was a big fan of SS4, plus one of the things I love about the Dragon Ball Z/GT series is the fact that, unlike so many shows nowadays, we actually got to see the characters grow and get older, seeing them from their youth all the way through their prime and so on. To me, I liked that GT continued that and seeing the next generation of different characters like Gohan's daughter Pan and characters like Trucks being an adult. I understand that some people were annoyed at how they went about things with certain characters, like sidelining Gohan most of the series (who is actually my favorite character), I for some reason just never hated GT like so many fans seem to.

@dccomicsrule2011: And that's saying something.

@Lvenger: Yeah, I had a soft spot for the Tournament saga/pre-Buu Saga and the end when SSJ3 was introduced. Everything else was just... I don't know. SSJ4 was kinda cool but it took away the entire purpose of SSJ3 like you said. SSJ3 was such a dramatic power increase that Goku could barely keep his energy up in the state. It was epic!

@War Killer:  SSJ 4 was kinda...meh to me, really I think they should have just stuck with regular SSJ. I mean the beginning of DBZ talked about how powerful the SSJ was, how none could match it and all that...and that was kinda thrown away due to SSJ 2 + 3. As for watching the characters grow....thats all well and good, but Pan shouldn't have been shown at all should have been replaced by Gohan, Trunks.....prefer Future Trunks by a long shot and really the show completely destroyed every character making Goku always the one to come in and save everyone even Vegeta. Gohan....shouldn't have become some uber nerd, and still should have been a fighter in some form or another and actually should have used his mystic form why they got rid of that who knows, there was no evidence suggesting he lost the ability to use it.

Goku becoming a kid again doesn't change the story at all, they really could have kept him as an adult and the story could have been the same.

I personally liked how it went back to the Saiyan roots with the Great Ape transformation. I liked Pan because I like the idea of Gohan settling down and having a family with Videl. Plus like I mentioned before, I like that we get to see the characters get older and see the next generation. Makes the show feel more real in the sense that they're all one big family who just so happen to save the world a lot. xD I could see Gohan settling down seeing as the world was at peace, but should have continued training to keep his body in shape just encase. But then again, Gohan was more focused on his studies than training, heck if I remember right, even Vegeta was annoyed during the Babidi Saga at how little Gohan had trained.

I really wish the would pick up where GT left off, with Goku now gone the protection of the Earth would be left in Vegeta's and Gohan's hands.

And who needs hair extensions when you can just scream your way into extending your hair? :P Sean Schemmel actually fainted during the screaming sessions for the first SSJ3 transformation. Poor guy.

@Lvenger: Yeah, but it was easily one of the best transformations and most epic screams ever! I get chills every time I see that scene!

Hmm they have:

Those 7 years between Cell and Majin Buu

And

Those 10 years after Majin Buu and the series finale.

Cool news, hope it expands on the world, either DBZ, DBGT or post DBGT (the generations after) or maybe, even prior to DBZ something like Bardock in that special episode.....

and Im with you @War Killer: I enjoyed DBGT, maybe not as much as DBZ but it was cool. SSJ4 is an awesome transformation and SSJ4 Gogeta was a real treat to see.

Oh I'm the same, I enjoyed DBZ far more than DBGT, I just don't hate GT as many fans seem to is all.

It doesnt have what it takes to succeed.

However Im in the process of something BIG... more info to come later.

I might be the minority on this one, but I really didn't care for any of the sagas after Cell Games.

Posted by ShrimpDino

Awesome to have a new DBZ anime movie :D

Posted by Jnr6Lil

I hate GT.

Posted by Lvenger

@ShrimpDino: It is. But it'll be a while before it's dubbed in English. IF it ever gets dubbed that is. A few Dragon Ball productions haven't been English dubbed you know.

@TheBigRedCheese: Aside from Super Saiyan 3 and Fusion, I didn't care much for the Majin Buu saga either. It was rushed, Majiin Buu wasn't nearly as good a villain as Cell, let alone Frieza. And Piccolo got shoved to the sidelines along with the other Dragon Ball characters.
