What the Hell is wrong with buying pre-owned games? I thought that was just a stupid decision made by EA and Activision, but Microsoft and Sony themselves are jumping on?! If that's so I might have to get a Wii U...

They won't do it. It'd be the end of console gaming if they did.

the problem is that when you buy a used game you're not giving your money to the developers and they don't like that

all they need to do is work out a deal with Gamestop so that whenever they sell a used game the developers get a small percentage of the sale

my problem with used games is that only Gamestop is making a profit off of it....whenever you trade in a game you get next to nothing for it and they quadruple that price to resell it....I traded in a bunch of games once and I will never make that mistake again...I'd rather be broke and replay the same game for the tenth time than get 4 bucks for a $65 game

It won't happen. And to add to that there is absolutely nothing from Microsoft, Sony or any reliable source that confirms this. Everything being sold digitally, no used games and an always-online policy would be a financial disaster for both companies.

I doubt they'll do this, they would lose a lot of customers.

More reason to stay with my SNES, N64, Gamecube, and Gameboy handhelds.

I been hearing about this for weeks. I still don't believe it... just how will the CD stop working on other consoles? Is it like a Virgin CD that once its played all other consoles can tell.

It's quite easy. They'll just need to place an "need-online-registration-to-play" feature of the game like some do right now (e.g. Ubisoft games). It's being used as anti-piracy right now but I think it will be easy to tweak the issue and tailor it to their greedy needs.

I'll stick with the two consoles I have (PS2 and X Box 360) if this is legit.

It's a moot point, anyways. I still refuse to believe this is legitimate until presented with valid proof.

It wouldn't really be beneath them now would it? It has already been stated that playback won't be an option (meaning: you can't play current gen games on the next gen systems)

If this does happen, then I won't even bother. My PS3 works perfectly fine still and I still have the good ol' N64 if I want to mix things up.

i hate new age gaming i miss the GC,ps2 and xbox days those were the best.

now we have DLCs ya how about you finish the game before you release it!

There's just so many stupid rumors about the Orbis and Durango that you should take any 'news' from gaming sites about them with a grain of salt.

This. I'd be raging if we couldn't play older games on the newer consoles.

They shoot themselves in the foot if they do that.

Game prices really haven't gone up each and every year. During the PS2/Xbox years, they went down $10, then back up to $60. Just look at how much NBA Hangtime cost in 1996 here, and this was the tailend of the SNES days.

However, I'd kill to be able to buy another XBox 360 controller for $15

Secondly, game systems have gotten insanely pricey. I remember when SNES came out and cost $180, but came with Super Mario World. Systems, today, come out and cost upwards of $600 with no games.

Your all making valid points. It is rumors right now, but I can see why they would do it. Developers make no money on the resells. Sony did file a patient for software that would determine if you had the rights to the CD. As one of the commentators pointed out. I'm going to post the link now.

@redbird3rdboywonder: Filing for a patent doesn't mean they intend to use it. That just means they're reserving that idea in case they decide to use it.

These rumors have been circulating for months, until Microsoft/Sony say something, these rumors are BS and used to get page hits for gaming websites.

Also people who are saying that they'll switch to PC gaming makes me laugh, try buying the latest PC games used, PC used gaming market doesn't really exist.

That's because you generally don't need used games for PC. A lot of old games are available through Steam.

I actually believe the rumors. It makes sense when you think about it. Developers are not getting money for used games they made. People claim it will be the death of console gaming...thats just A complete falicy. Everyones going to switch to PC and Tablet IOS games? No way in hell man. People will buy the overpriced consoles and the overpriced new games. Call of duty (new blackops) made over a billion dollars and continues to see more and more money. Grranted they are the biggest franchise with the exception of WOW and Starcraft but my point is that massive profits will still be made. People that claim this could kill games are not being realistic in my opinion. Your telling me when GTA 6 comes out on the next gen and is only available new, Rockstar wont make money because people want to wait for it used? Not gonna happen. Sure their could be losses for certain developers. Popularity of smaller titles without the clout of big name franchises will suffer, but concole gaming is huge. Its not going anywhere even if this does happen. I for one hate Gamestop so I dont really care about that company and have never used Gamefly. Hopefully this isnt true because I will occasionally trade in games and get totally ripped off by Gamestop (contributing to my dislike of them) and put it towards new games. I hope this doesnt happen but I actually expect it to.

If they do this it doesn't just have ramifications on those who play games but so many people will be out of jobs. I know that shops like GAME and CEX, here in the UK, rely on used games sales for a majority of their profits and without that then they'll very quickly become no more.

Exactly my point. They will be taking out the whole used game industry. A lot of games these days aren't even worth the 59.99 price tag. That is why I like to wait for the used game price to come way down.
