Compromise

Despite my earlier rant on the sexualization of women in comics, I do believe that they are more objectified than men, while at the same time being underutilized. I for one am a big fan of strong women and female characters, and a few men in refregirator moments (the only one I can think of is when Donna lost her husband and son) would make things interesting. Making women the focus and stars of many books would probably be the best way to shake things up and get people interested in comic books again. Also while making them stars of books it would be good to tone down the sexuality. I'm not saying ending it completely, but toning it down. Frankly completely reversing the sexuality of women in comics would be a backslide back into the mcarthy era and comic censorship. adjust costumes and stop the t&a shots on every page and I think it strikes a balance between sexy males and sexy females. The fact is that I'm still a man and while I don't want to stare at a women tits or ass all the way through the book. It gets old, and irritating and I think that is the second biggest reason men hate the way sexualization is going in comics behind it being just plain wrong. However nothing is hotter than a hot girl beating some ugly supervillian into the dirt (and I think that quiet a few women would agree with me). Finally the two biggest changes that need to be made to women in comics are no more brokebacks and no more women in refrigerators. I want to see strong sexy women, not pornstars. If I want to see pornstars I'll watch porn. Comic book heroens need to stand triumpantly over the beaten bodies of their enemies, not look like they're waiting for the bikini shoot. Second women need to stop being screwed (figurativaly and literally) to push the stories of the men around them. I would much rather see new interesting stories featuring the problems women face, and I mean real problems, not the universally panned sex and the city rip off Marvel Divas. And these issues are nothing new. It's what you all want isn't it? and the reason Oracle was such a smash hit of a character. Frankly the men's stories and there crap are getting old. I'm tired of hearing bataman bitch about losing mommy and daddy, or about how tough it is for superman to balance being human and a demigod. I want to see more of wonder woman being a strong woman in a still patriarchal world, of Ms. Marvel coming into her own as the new captain marvel, and even Carol Ferris working to bring love into a universe that certainly needs more of it (we can debate her costume another time. I personally think it fits her character, but covering her stomach is not a deal breaker.

I think you raise a good point, there is somewhat of a disconnect among comic creators if they think women actually think like the characters from Sex and the City.

Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel has the potential to make this happen and i will agree of late its been pretty annoying seeing women tossed around for no reason. The one that really springs to mind is Black Cat the whole thing with Daredevil and Spider-man was just stupid imo.

First thing's first, you don't reach equality by having the same bad things happen to both genders.
"In Refrigerators" stories are frowned upon because they're poor writing, having "Men in refrigerators" stories doesn't help anything.

I didn't read the rest because I've seen it all a hundred times before.

Carol Danvers is Ms Marvel, her being relegated to a shadow of a lesser hero is the exact opposite of a good idea regarding strengthening the portal of women in comics.

I never said I agreed with the fact she was becoming Captain Marvel. I still prefer her as Ms Marvel but it is inevitably happening so there's no point complaining. What I was saying that out of most of them women characters she is the best shot at pulling off a strong female character whether she is Ms Marvel or Captain Marvel.

Interesting comments - its all in the presentation. Great observations in regards to posturing and the ever classic "broke-back" pose @Strider92 said:

Agreed.

Why not just put out a mandate stating that all superhero/heroine characters in a comic book have to stand up straight? That'd make the most sense.

*shakes your hand proudly* THANK YOU. I agree with everything you just said.
