Comics Are Awesome 1

Not Kringer This was a great number two issue.  There was humor action and a back story.  It also has great character development.  I love how everything came together.  There are three great stories here and they all come out nice.  In the flashback T'Priell relives what it was like being a woman on Vulcan and how even for a race of logical people there was still room for sexism.  She remembers when her father stopped her from surviving in the wilderness like men of the Vulcan people do. ...

Character development is a good choice 0

Andrea Brand This book is a lot of fun.  It originally took place during the Deep Space Nine Series and told the stories of Nog while he was at Starfleet Acadamy.  This was great for me as Nog was one of my favorite characters from the series.  I especially loved the stories that involved him going to Starfleet making the Ferengi a lot less like a race of cartoons or comic relief characters.    I really liked the characters in this book and they are really flushed out.  The token human, a wa...

Nothing Else 0

It's Over. Nothing else can be said about this series that I didn't say in the last three issues.  The book was not horribly written or anything but it did progressively get more dull with each issue.  The characters became less believable as the story went on as well.  The worst example of this was Kira throughout the series but by this issue none of the characters from the original Deep Space Nine show were acting anything like the seven years of character development the writer and actors...

A Scary Thought 0

White Uhura Alright.  I had a scary thought after I read this comic.  I had been complaining that this mini-series is flawed because the main characters (especially Kira) are not in character because they have to be dumb enough for the plot to work.  That said it dawned on me that there is a nemesis in this book that has had the ability to control other members of the crew.  This got me thinking "Was I in error?"  Well in a word.  Nope!  I went on ahead and read the conclusion to this book an...

Picking Up Steam 0

Commander Jast If you read my last review you know how I feel about making characters just dumb enough to make the plot work.  This is corrected a little in this issue.  Kira was made to look stupid in the last issue but at least Bashir asks the obvious questions.  Even Quark is getting answers.  There is a lot of lime from the last issue to this one and it seems little is done.  The time lapse is due to Miles being brought back all the way from Earth to stand trial.  The previously unheard ...

Just Dumb Enough 0

The Romulan I am so glad to see comics that continue from the series and this doesn't disappoint in that area.  Questions get answered.  Nog becomes the stations Security Officer and Kira id Station's Commander.  O'Brien Makes to earth but things don't go well for him.  This may not answer everything but it is a nice start.  The one glaring flaw in this comic is the characters are just dumb enough for the plot to work.  Kira is the station commander and has a Romulan who has a mysterious lab...

I Liked It 2

Recommend This Review! This was a pretty good book for a pretty good series.  There were some cliches and some mistakes.  I really hated the Andorian with purple dreads but over all it was a good story and this is the only issue he didn't appear so that is a plus.  (Somehow dreads don't seem very Star Trek when the Bajorians are not allowed to wear earnings or headbands most of the time.)  Anyway back on this book the general story was great.  I loved the concept and it is always good to rea...

The End Of Trills 0

The End The Trill have been attacked by a virus that kills the symbionts of joined Trill.  This will kill the host as well as they can only survive for a short time without the symbiont after being joined.  This effects all the great Trill characters we have seen for the episodes and movies of Star Trek, Ezri Dax, Odan, Kell Perim and Lenara Kahn.  This is a great story and keeps with the characters better than the last one.  There is also another cliff hanger that makes you desperate to r...

Missed the Mark 0

Next Generation Troi I love these Star Trek books that takes characters who were never in any of the television shows together.  I also love the books that take place after a series or in between the movies.  Something that broadens the characters and gives an outside chance that something important will happen.     This book does all that.  I love the character development and attention to story.  I love the renual of two characters who were in only one episode each but from different Star ...

Post DS9 1

Enterprise E I loved this book.  I wish there were more like it.  I hated how most Star Trek series end.  The Original Series, Deep Space nine DS9 and Voyager were the worst.  These series left you wondering how the characters were going to end up.  The Original Series never really ended and DS9 and Voyager left with big cliff hangers.    The Original series got it's closure by the movies and guest spots that came later but.  Deep Space Nine turned a chapter in many of the characters lives. ...

A Little More 0

Picard and Sisko This was the last issue in a four part series.  I liked this book a lot because there are a lot of interactions between characters from the two television shows.  The book was written toward the end of the Next Generation television show and the start of Deep space nine television show so the Deep Space Nine characters are no where near as involved as the Next Generation characters.  The end of this series was a bit soft ball for my tastes.  It was a time of transition for t...

Best Alien Movie Ever 7

Colonial Marines Of all the movies in the Aliens franchise this is by far my absolute favorite.  The reasons for this is the Big Bad Colonial Marines.  Just like in a similar film Predator these marines have personality.  For the most part each one has a characters have personality.  They are not just meat to make the aliens look tough.  You have Sergeant Al Alpone who is a cigar compin' butt kickin' non-com.  Bishop the mysterious android that when you see the movie for the first time yo...

You got your Deep Space Nine in my Next Generation 0

A big - eating grin No you got your Next Generation in my Deep Space Nine.  So far this has been a good story arc.  The series is half over and there is still plenty of mystery.    The story was written while both series were going and so far there hasn't been any big mistakes.  To be honest I didn't see any that couldn't be easily explained.  There are characteristic that fit it in it's time.  Such as Ro Laren still being assigned to the Enterprise and Deanna Troi talking to Odo about her m...

Not On TV 0

A missing Ship The cool thing about Star Trek comics is things like this mini series.  The whole cast of Deep Space Nine and the Next Generation are in this book.  A cross over like this never happens because of actor conflicts in time and the cost to pay so many actors for one show.  Luckily, comics can have large casts.  This is an interesting story about some high ranking offices who have gone missing as they entered the worm hole leading to the Gamma quadrant.  This also has a very negat...

Not your da's Star Trek 0

Onward 1950's Robot This is a review for the comic that accompanied a read-along record.  The comics in this series were produced far apart from each other and did not keep with the television show or movie very well.   This comic came out between the first and second movie.  This comic was about as star Trek as a Little House On the Prairie.  The first thing I noticed right away was a genuine hatered the Federation characters have for Romulans and Klingons as sworn enemies and blood thirsty...

The Good and the Bad 0

Sulu Page 10 This comic has two stories A Mirror for Futility and the Time Stealer.  I gave this book two stars.  The first story was pretty good but the second was awful.    A Mirror for Futility This is a very Star Trek anti war story about two races that fought a war so long that their automated systems keep fighting it.  Using the poker style of being a Captain Kirk is able to keep the war out of Federation space.  I liked this story but it was not awesome.  There was nothing that made ...

Gonna crack my knuckles and jump for joy! I got a clean bill... 5

"Gonna crack my knuckles and jump for joy! I got a clean bill of health from Doctor McCoy!" --Adam (STOS)Play that funky music... Anyone who has seen the original Star Trek episode This Way To Eden will not only get the Title quote from the episode but also get the wonderful absurdity of this issue.  The Enterprise encounters an alien of pure sound that is reeking havoc on the ship and the crew faces at best going deaf and at worst going mad.    Luckily Yeoman Conners drags up an Edoan Elisi...

A Neat Oddity 2

Uhura? This comic is a record/comic set.  It was meant to be followed along to the voice actors who played the roles.  It is a fun and very Star Trek like story.  In addition characters like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy look a lot like the original actors.  There is however an odd aspect to the book and that is Uhura ia a white, blonde blue eyed girl, Sulu is a black man, M'Ress no longer looks like a cat and a yeoman Conners sounds like Chekov but has blonde hair.  The oddest part is Sulu and Uhr...

You have got to be BLANKING kidding me!! 2

Thanks Marvel I am pissed!  No I am really pissed!  Marvel just pisses me off!  To end a book like this is just crap.  This series is the best Star Trek series I have ever read.  I gave each book a four of five rating.  If this wasn't the last issue this book would be a five as well.    Here we got an epic battle.  Robert April wants his command but makes a mistake so bad it kills two of his own crewman and injures Number One (cracking her skull) who was really suppose to be in command.  In ...

Just One More To Go 0

Robert April I am sad to say there is only one more book to go in this series.  At the time I wrote this I wrote every review for this series and I am the only person to write any reviews for the series.  I have to tell you this book and series are worth the work.  I only hope that someone actually reads these books based on my recommendations.  These are really worth it.  Many people don't review the older books and then I have seen as many as seven to ten reviews on some of the newer books...

The End Times 0

The Return of Mia The best crews Kirk or Pike ever had are all here in a fight to the death.  Just like the Alamo, Little Big Horn and Thermopylae.  The crews are greatly out gunned and out maned.  No one has a chance of survival.  This is all done to correct the timeline that has been broken when Mia Colt disappeared from the past to go to the future.  This book has everything.  It is an alternate timeline so death can and does happen across the pages.  Many of best characters is Star Trek ...

I Love This 0

Grace and Scotty I love this book everything from the cover to the last page.  We first start out with Christopher Pike punching James Kirk in the face.  What is great is he actually does it in the book.  The whole thing is a mixed up jumble of Pikes crew and Kirks crew.    The universe is awesome Number One is in Command of the Excelsior with Pavel Chekov and Nano.  Pike is in command of the Enterprise A  and his crew is Spock, Uhura, Saavik, Jose Tyler, Hikaru Sulu, and Moves With Burning ...

Truly Great 0

A New Crew Star Trek is awesome at alternate timelines and possible futures.  This book does not disappoint.  I love how the simple disapearence of a yeoman like Mia Colt can effect the universe.    When Mia is pushed to the future she changes James Kirk's and Christopher Pike's timeline.  This of course changes all around them.  Kirk and Scotty end up on a cargo ship called the Bounty. (Star Trek fans will appreciate the significance of the name.)  Pike's future is much better than the regu...

Classic all the way 3

Robert April This book is a classic all the way.  It stays true to the continuity of the universe.  It stays true to what Star Trek is about.  It stays true to the characters.  Spock may be in the book but he is not the straw that stirs the drink.  He is part of an ensemble cast.  Also ntice the X-Men tribute cover.  Classic all the way.  As the few of you who have read these reviews know I love this series.  I love them so much I want to talk to someone who has read them but I don't know any...

Biggest Battle Yet 0

Captain Crowe If only the original series could have had big space battles.  In this book the Federation is numbered two to one and take heavy casualties fighting the Chakuun. Oh and by the way that is large ships.  It doesn't count the hundreds of small fighters the the Chakuun have.  Meanwhile on the planet a ship of the Chakuun crash lands and Gabrielle investigates the ship all by herself.  This story was really cool as it had a lot of aspects from the original series as well as huge b...

Back on Top 1

Fear for Carlotti The series went back to five star not that I didn't give any books in the series less that four stars so far.  This was an awesome story about the Chakuun who are warriors for the Tholians.  This was a traumatic experience for Gabrielle Carlotti and the issue handled her horror in a real way.  This issue is really about the effect war has on people.  This is a very real issue for those of us who have been touched by war.  Sure it is dealing with science fiction and aliens b...

A Part Of The Crew 0

A new world Nano was established as a part of the Enterprise crew right from the beginning of the series but he has not had a story until now.  He hasn't even been a big part of any story.  The character is neat looking (kind of a purple E.T.) and has some interesting abilities but he has not been utilized much until this issue.  This brings me to the only weak part of the issue.  The story is about Nano having to leave and how it is effecting him and the crew but because not much has been e...

Improving an Old Story 2

Young Boyce This is very reminiscent of a Star Trek original series episode when Montgomery Scott was possessed by an evil spirit.  Having such a similar episode made into a comic was way better than the original as I found the episode rather dull as it seemed to stretch out too long.  The short comic made it a better story.    In this story Phillip Boyce is possessed as a young man by aliens who what revenge.  He has been suffering from this all the way back to the first issue of this...

7-0 0

The Cage Review So far this series is 7-0.  I have loved every book in this series.  I have always been fascinated by the "what could have been"  Captain Pike had only appeared in one episode called the Cage.  That episode was split into two parts called the Menagerie.  All that said there really was only one episode filmed out of about 700 Star Trek episodes and films up until the last movie.  With only one episode it is hard to see why a character could be so impactful and it is not just beca...

Well Done 0

Darien 244 If you read my last review you know I had some concerns about how this two part story would end.  I brought up two possible problems to the story.  The most major is the existence of a never before seen race of Vulcans.  These Vulcans don't exist in the later Star Trek universe so the issue needed to be explained and dealt with and it is.    The other issue is Pike's ability to handle deaths on his crew.  Unlike Kirk Pike took the loss of three of his men pretty hard in the series...

The Benefit of Doubt 0

Ancient Vulcan T'Kell I gave this book the benefit of doubt and gave it five stars.  Every book has been perfect so far.  This issue however is unique in the series as it is the first story of the series that takes place after the pilot episode.  It is also the first issue that is a two-parter.  Knowing how awesome the past books were and seeing no error here is where I base my rating.  Now that, that is out of the way let me voice my concerns.  The Enterprise finds a group of Vulcan who liv...

Four in a Row 3

Early Sketch Here is the Fourth issue of this series and I have given each a five star rating.  These books deserve it.  Each book is an exceptional example of how science fiction can be done.  It also keeps true to the original story even quoting the pilot episode that this is based on.  This is a behind the scenes retelling of the pilot.  It is done perfectly.  One of my favorite parts is when J. Mia Colt arrives on the ship as three coffins from the last mission are being unloaded.  Thi...

The Death of Dermot 5

Goodbye Demot This has been a long time coming.  This series has been handled perfectly.  I really love how well it has been done.  The writers of this series took the background exposition of Captain Christopher Pike from the pilot and took their time laying out the story in the first three issues of this series.    Pike lost some of his crew along with his personal Yeoman at the ambush and Rigel VII.  Knowing this the writes made this loss painful.  They made a created a character named De...

Classic Star Trek 1

Durmot Cusak I love these book.  This is a very classic Star Trek story from the old days.  A chess match between Captain Pike and Captain Kaaj ends with the better man coming up with the ingenious solution to victory.  This series is great and this issue doesn't disappoint.  If you are a fan of Star Trek this is a must have.  It is a great comic on it's own right as well.  The characters are rich and full and are true to Gene Roddenberry's concept of the characters.  I particularly like the...

Being True 1

Captain Pike I love this issue.  I am a huge fan of Star Trek.  Big nerd.  Big Time.  I love it.  Here is the thing however.  I am not a slappy.  If the story is not good science fiction I don't have any problem pointing it out.  Most Star Trek Comics that I have read are pale comparisons to the series.  This book however did not disappoint.    The plot of the story was not real in depth but it was good and it kept with the Star Trek ideals and premises.  The reason for it being lacking a li...

Project 500: Barry should have stayed dead. 9

Barry's ultimate sacrifice. Welcome ComicVine's to this the eighth installment of Project 500. As you may know Project 500 was the idea of legendary reviewer Silkcuts.  This is in honor of his 500th review.  (Congratulations)  He saw a need that there were no reviews for the most famous DC Comics crossover ever.  The Crisis on Infinite Earths or the First Crisis as I like to call it.  He gathered some of the best reviewer's, and minds (modesty) for a Jam...

Classic Literature 2

The Invasion League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen This is a dark time for the League as they are betrayed by one of their own and Mina is beaten mercilessly.  As the aliens establish a beachhead in Europe.  I was disappointed in the betrayal because it was too obvious.  In other words the characters should have saw it coming.  There was no subtlety to the story.    The beating of Wilhelmina was pretty sadistic as well.  It was not enough to take her out but she was humiliated first.  I am torn ab...

Betrayed Again. 4

War of the Worlds I really liked this issue.  It kept very true to the original novel War of the Worlds.  Not that I was expecting it to but it was neat to see things play out that way.  The story was good and the characters are left with a feeling of helplessness.  I really thought that was neat and is unseen in most comics today.  Even if the hero is wrong they usually feel they can conquer any problem.  Not here the league is left wondering what to do.  Actually there is one character wh...

Boys Go To Mars 3

I Love This This is the best issue of these books so far.  That is considering the first six issues in the first volume.  I really loved the story and it went quickly because most of it is written in a Mars language.  I also loved the character Gullivar Jones.  No matter how much I know of these characters there is always something new and this was a treat for me seeing this guy work with a classic like John Carter.     I also love the New Traveller's Almanac.  The twist that is put on Alic...

Can't Keep the Man Down Alright for those of you who did not read the novels these books are based on here is a little history lesson.  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle created the character's Sherlock Holmes, James Moriarty and Sebastian Moran.  Wanting to write other things Dole decided to kill off Sherlock in the very story he introduces Moriarty.  Needless to say just like today fans were outraged that he would kill off the great Holmes.    The death of Holmes happens in the story The Adventure o...
