I want to respond to the last few comments. I have gotten a lot of support after I wrote this blog and greatly appreciate chalksharks comments. I also think it is very gracious of Avenging X Bolt to be willing to shut down the blogs in question. There were some other comments too that have been said. I am not good with text talk so I missed some of what Avenging X bolt and Joygirl were trying to say.

I do want to clear up a few things however. I am not interested in credit. It was thoughtful in a way to give me credit but that is not what got me to write the blog. I am not even comfortable taking credit for the game. I am sure games like this have existed for ever. I mean it is really nothing more than tallying. As I said above I too was inspired by another user to make my blogs. I liked the game and wanted to make lists of whom I thought were the biggest characters in comics. I was not real familiar with some so I wanted to know what others thought were the closest characters associated to another individual character. The difference between then and now is...

1. I checked to see if the games have been done in a while.
2. I then changed the game by allowing users to nominate the characters. I changed it from an elimination style game to the exact opposite. I changed the voting rules. I kept doing this until the only similarity between my games and any others I saw was there was adding of one point at a time.
3. I then came up with unique scenario to give guidelines.

The ones that came later pretty much took exactly what I wrote and copied it almost word for word. The only differences being the character of the game changed. I am not looking for recognition. I am looking for a kind of etiquette. I would not go to another users blog, copy it, give credit and go. If I really wanted to do it I would have at least asked the original user first like I did two years ago. To be honest I wouldn't even be care if someone copied later as long as they waited till after I was done. The real things that hurt was the nearly exact coping of my words/phrases and I wasn't finished with my series yet. I had a game in motion that was a few of several characters that I was going to do this for. When some of the other characters were taken that I planned my series around I could no longer do it. For example I no longer do a game with Etrigan or Deadpool if someone else already did it.

@joygirl: I'm not taking a side. I'm voicing an opinion. I participated in your "Give A Point" game for Power Girl, so clearly, I don't condemn the practice. It has been my observation, over the years, on this site, that people tend to grab hold of a singular idea, spawn it into multiple threads, then run it into the ground, until enough fatigue has been generated over the concept that it, finally, dies. I don't have strong feelings about it, one way or the other. As an artist, though, I very much understand where Liberty could be developing hard feelings about this. I keep my ideas very closely guarded because people are always looking to take them from you, and claim them as their own. That's just been my experience. It's tended to make me a very cynical man. I apologize for offending you. Know that it was not my intent. I certainly do not disparage your contributions to this site. Nor do I do so of any other.

Joy gave credit to you and i gave credit to both of you in turn, and as you said yourself; this is y no means n original idea. But, if it upsets you THAT much then i will shut it down.

@chalkshark: You know what? Enjoying an idea and letting it inspire fun doesn't make anyone a "coat tail rider". When you talk about the harmless clingers that "regurgitate" Liberty's idea, you're talking about me, and I have contributed more to this site than thousands of other users combined between the off-topic, general discussion, RPG, fan-fic, and battle threads. So yes, I do have an original idea in my head. Someone forgot to tell me that citing your influence and making a thread inspired by someone else's idea makes you a dreg of society. So maybe you should consider more than one angle before you blindly pick sides.

I think you have to accept the fact that there will always be creative individuals, such as yourself, and coat tail riders, who don't necessarily have an original idea in their head, but still want to attract attention at the party. I'd say it was probably pretty inevitable that people were going to glom onto your idea, and start regurgitating it. There are literally hundreds of users on Comic Vine, all of whom are looking to carve out their own niche. A lot of them are going to do so by repaving someone else's road, as it were. Give them the benefit of the doubt for no malicious intent. Try to be flattered that they're following in your wake.

Homage and inspiration are great and kind things but that is different than coping nearly the exact same thing word for word. For example a Give a Point game that wanted to find out who are the top 5 Dark Horse characters or top 10 Project Superpowers characters or top 12 Superhero television shows would be an homage. Maybe changing things a little like the rules construction of the game the scenario and so on. Make it a Take a point or a Give a Point/Take A Point. Using a different scenario. Changing it up in a few ways and making it unique would be taking an inspiration and making an homage. Coping and pasting what someone else wrote and just changing one characters name in coping. For the record I am not looking nor do I deserve an homage for this. I was not the first to do something like this but I did write it and attempted to make it my own.

Um... sorry for paying homage to you and citing my inspiration...? Not really sure how to react to this.

I can see where you could have thought that it was a comicvine thing and in a way it is. I would not go so far as say it is my own personal game, and so on as I explained above. What I did (perhaps wrongly) expect was not to have users quote mine so directly. Also, I did post at the top that each one was part of a series. Thank you for your post. I'll also send you a private PM so we can talk more.

To be fair, I did give you credit in my one, and seeing as how everyone else was copying the original "game show" template, I believed that this was some kind of ComicVine "thing", and not your own personal game, as such, so I'm sorry for that. I've only been here two months. But I did get to the punch first with Deadpool (at least I thought I did, I didn't know you were planning to make one like that). It's the only one that I've made, and it's the only one I'll make, out of respect to you. It's just, on the internet, you can't really copyright an idea. I know it's yours, and it was a mistake to do a rip-off, but you can't really create an awesome, customizable game template and not expect people to copy it, right? I won't do another one without checking with your list first, but to prevent others from doing it, may I advise you to put a little notice at the bottom of the post? Something like, "this is part of my Give-a-point series, please do not make ones like this, thanks"? I hope we can reach an agreement.

Aw, no, I can see what you're saying. You felt like it was your thing, right? I mean, on the one hand I can see how someone might think this is a silly thing to feel upset about. But how you feel is how you feel, you can't help it. I feel irritated or annoyed or get hung up on little things all the time, it is frustrating when things don't go the way you planned. Especially when you are set on having something go down a certain way, it can really get under your skin when it doesn't.

Chin up though :) I mean, you inspired people with your awesome idea. Oscar Wilde was right :)

I agree. I've seen the Deadpool one, which I believe is ridiculous. I know that is one you planned on doing yourself, so I'm not supporting it. The only other I am supporting is Joygirl's Harley Quinn, which I don't think was on your list of characters to do the game with. You have a right to be upset.
