Victories HQ:

"Dark Vengeance, this is Alex. I just had a vision. A horrible vision." She paused to take a breath. her throat felt constricted. "Something horrifying is happening in Hell, Michigan. I don't have the details, but a portal to the dark realm seems to have been opened. Aspects of the pit has oozed out of the opening, and its affecting everyone and everything. But a small populace seems to have been spared. Maybe due to natural immunity, maybe for sport." She shuddered. "I am bound by oath to investigate this evil, and if possible, heal the breach. I recommend a small recon group. If the Victories arrive in force, the whole town could come against us."

@zaniel

Alex had barely arrived in the empty park before being grabbed up in a rough hug. Her shoes left the ground slightly as she was lifted with ease in the friendly embrace of her old friend. This sort of thing would normally annoy her, but Zaniel had obviously forgotten his own strength in his excitement. "HiZ." She squeaked, being squeezed a little too hard. He quickly released her with a sheepish smile.

"So, um." She found she couldn't keep her smile off either. "How are things going in Heaven? Had any more adventures? Still seeing Zoe?" That last question was a bit direct, and she silently chided herself for sounding like a nosy high school girl. She tried to reign in her giddiness, but it was difficult because she was picking up on his happy feelings as well. It was very overwhelming.

At a secret library known only to those in occult circles:

Alex looked up from her book as someone called her name, then realized she was alone in the library. She had been studying for days, learning new spells. She was part of a team now. A new circle who shared her oath to protect, albeit in their own ways. She rubbed tiredly at her dry eyes with her left palm. The Demon hand took her distraction as an opportunity, and swept the books and her notes to the floor.

'That voice seemed familiar' She thought to herself. Strong but gentle. Heavy and casual at once. The voice of... "Zaniel" She said aloud, forgetting the books on the floor for a moment as all her adventures with the angel of luck came back to her.

Quickly she picked up her notes, folding them and jamming them into her coat pocket. "I could use a break." She told herself. "And how often is Z in town?" Remote locating Z was a simple matter. His call out made him easy to locate. Speaking the words of the teleportation spell and vanashed from the library.

Gothic City. Street level

Fear and anger slammed into Alex like a wave. She would have been overwhelmed by all the negative feelings under ordinary circumstances. So many people were hurt and scared, it was like the city itself was in pain. Add to the fact that Alex was very much out of her element here. Dealing with evil witches, or demons, or even the occasional fallen god was one thing. Playing superhero and fighting a literal robot army was quite another thing.

Alex was working crowd control. Kind of. Rather then fighting on the front line she defending the fleeing, terrified people. It was hard, what with the demon hand grinding its teeth into her hand and wrist. But she had a mission to focus herself on. And that helped her maintain control as much as anything else.

Somewhere an explosion sounded off like the last trumpet, heralding the end of all. Alex shook the thought out of her head. Its was a frightening situation, yes. But not unstoppable. "Find your center. Your place in the universe." She told herself. "I am the sword of the weak. Defender of the defenseless. The servant of light and the adversary of darkness."

Even as she said the words, she saw down one broken street a school bus full of people hit some debris. Moving without thinking about it, Alex summoned a strong wind to catch the bus and right up. Hand sign magic was faster then spoken or written, but it also cost the most from a witch. Alex waved as the bus drove past. Her smile quickly faded as she saw the doombots coming up the street from the direction the bus had came from. 6 of the emotionless robotic soldiers marched towards her, their feet indenting the pavement in places.

Alex quickly pondered her options for dispatching the merciless machines. Muttering the words of a spell, the pavement became like quicksand, and two doombots were quickly bogged down to their waists. The other four simply began to hover over the street.[Meta-human resistor discovered. Scans show Beta level abilities. Threat assessment. Moderate] one of the doombots said in what Alex assumed was a recording of Doom's voice.

"Beta? You must not know me." Alex replied, throwing up an invisible shield as the doombots began shooting at her. The shield held well, reflecting the shots. Her ability to create and hold shields was much better then it had once been. Suddenly she had an idea, and made the shield to curve back, causing the plasma fire to hit two of the doombots, melting through their chest plates, and burning up strange circuitry. But she didn't see the doombot come from her left side. The powerful machine knocked her to the ground, making her concentration slip, and the shield dissipated.

Before the doombot could finish her, Alex pulled her modified gun from its leg holster, and pulled the trigger. A stream of hell fire hit the robot in the face, destroying its head and upper body in the blast. "What's my threat assessment now?" She asked as she fired at the remaining doombot.

Los Angeles, California.

Alex was up on stage again. The hot stage lights making her hair stick to her forehead, but she barely noticed. She was in a a zone, not playing the music so much as channeling it. The claws of the Damon Manu pounding across the strings of her guitar. Z was there too, playing his own guitar on the other side of the stage. He smiled and winked at her, and she felt herself blush under her make up. He had excellent rhythm and moves.

She and the band were playing a Dollyrots song rather then one she had written, which was unusual, but not unheard of. She stepped back to the mic as the music beat came faster. "Brings me right back here again, where I can't be true. Brings me right back here again, don't know what to do... Don't know what to do."

"Do you wanna dance with me?" Z sang back.

"He's always late..."

"Dance with me?"

"He made me wait." She sang back, "But at least--" He voice trailed off as she noticed all the people in the audience were wearing the Damon Manu on their right hands. Even her mother was there, looking just like she had in Heaven. She smiled and waved her her own demon hand at Alex.

Alex woke up screaming.

She had been too idle as of late. Just letting the days slip by, while the demon hand bid its power. What if it was winning through her inaction? She had drifted from her sacred purpose. A purpose that stood regardless of the cursed hand. "I am the sword of the weak. Defender of the defenseless. Theservant of light and the adversary of darkness." She whispered the Sisterhood of Light's sacred vow. It had always given her comfort and strength in the past. But today it felt hollow and cheap. The Damon Manu snickered dryly in her mind.

She noticed a postcard had been dropped through the mail slot. Odd, since it was early for the mail. It was addressed to "Alexandria" Her legal name. 'I know who you are' it read 'I know you want to use your powers for justice. There are others. We are gathering.' Below was an address. It was not signed. Alex starred at the postcard thoughtfully. She had met other people with powers before, and the results had nearly sank a cruise ship. But it would be nice to be part of a group again. Witches always worked better in a circle of sorts. She decided to give this gathering a shot.

"Fair enough. First meetings warrant introductions." She offered her left hand to him. "My name is Alexia Mycroft, myfriends, the few I have" (she thought of Zaniel again) "call me Alex. I'm a witch. But a good witch." She quickly continued, before he got the wrong idea about her. "I was raised by an order of good witches, the Sisterhood of Light. But one day I foundthis ugly charm bracelet..." She held up her right hand for him to see.

"This is the right hand of doom. The harbinger of death. The end of all, etc etc. The single most evil wearable thing ever, and maybe the most evil thing in the universe. I am stuck with this till death, like the universes idea of a crap sitcom." She paused, taking a sip of her beer. "I need to tell Nobody someone is out to kill him. And then me...."

He was playing it off very well. If she wasn't a witch, she may have been fooled. That also showed he was smart. He didn't reveal himself just because she knew who he was. She decided to play it as well.

"I don't know really." She starred ahead, trying not to smile. "I haven't heard much about him. I think he tries to stay secret." She left momentarily to get a beer. She returned a moment later, sipping her drink. "But he is the man I need to see. So shall we keep playing clue? Or can we get to it?"

Fate was on her side for once. Or was it luck? If it was, then it was his, not hers. She saw him staggering towards her, looking absolutely wiped out. She didn't need her magic cognition to know it was Z. His clothes alone gave him away, even in the darkness. She hurried to him, just as he began to fall. He was too heavy to hold up, so she eased him down.

She had to do something to help him, so she reached deep for her last bit of magic. Pressing her hand to his chest she whispered "Requiem curationum" She wasn't sure the spell would work here, and if it did she would owe the Sandman a tribute. But she refused to watch Z suffer. A small dust devil blew up the sand suddenly, forming into a rough caricature of a man. Alex nodded at the apparition. "IOU" she mumbled before passing out, the last of her powers spent.

* * *

She partially awoke sometime later, being carried by someone. "Is Z...?" she trailed off as she passed out again. This time for the night.

@_nobody_ (Apologies for the lengthy delay. You caught me at the end of my day and I wanted to reply fresh)

The young witch, Alex Mycroft stepped into the smokey bar and looked around. She couldn't help but remember the last time she came to a bar looking for help. Meeting a fallen angel, trespassing in Heaven, and meeting an alternate version of herself. All that in addition to going into space, and nearly sinking a cruise ship while playing chicken with a psychic.

The Sisters of Hate had a saying, that everyone is a plaything of the gods amusement. Being raised by the Sisterhood of Light, she was taught that some individuals were raised up to push back the darkness, and champion the weak. And she couldn't help but feel Fate had much more in store for her.

She could always refuse the call of Fate, but to ignore her responsibilities to the Sisterhood would let the darkness crawl over her soul a little further. And besides, she wasn't one to quit. The Damon Manu bite down on her fingers, just to make itself known and disrupt her thoughts. "Okay, the spirit realm said to come find you, now where are you?" She muttered to herself. Who ever this 'Nobody' was, he wasn't pinging her Magic Cognition. So he wasn't magic by nature, nor employed magic items. "If Zaniel were here, I would have tripped over this guy by now." The thought made her smile. She raised her left hand, palm outward to scan the crowd. Maybe she could pick up on his aura. Then she 'saw' it through the Damon Manu's gem eye. A blue/gray aura. A solidary color. She followed it to the balcony.

Zaniel was in danger. She just knew it. The big lug had was probably out looking for her, even though he couldn't have been fully recovered himself.

'Unless the angel is dead...' The demon hand whispered through her mind like am icy breeze. "I'm not nearly tired enough forthat brand of despair to work." She told it. "We're going to find him, and you're going to help me, unless you want to stay in themagic forsaken place forever." The Damon Manu grumbled, and chewed at her hand. It didn't like it, but for once it didn't have much choice. "I am the sword of the weak. Defender of the defenseless. The servant of light and the adversary of darkness.." She whispered the code of the Sisterhood as she began to follow Zaniel's faint aura out of the town...
