@ironborn: It was an interesting time. I think it would make for a fascinating story but it is one of those stories that would probably be a lot more fun to read about than to experience.

@warlock360: I appreciate the offer but no. I'm spreading myself thin already; too many hobbies that are already going to have to get cut when the COVID slowdown ends.

At some point I need to write down everything that happened. Preferably before I forget too many of the details. I would also like to find an inside source on everything that happened in the discord group. Their internal power struggles, the waxing and waning of various factions within them and so on. I could sense some of that from the outside but my spider sense doesn't give me a high fidelity image.

@kenzo_: Hm, kinda then. It was a conflict between what became known as the 'discord group', lead by Lichter and the CVnU group, comprised mostly of vets and mods. It was slow burning at first, 2015 and 2016 were mostly marked by escalating tensions but the boundaries between the two sides had yet to solidify and both sides still talked and RPed together. In 2017 the discord group created a new universe called (CV17 or something like that, I think) and announced it with a post that a number of vets and mods felt attacked by. 2017 was a major escalation in tension (I had already left the site by that time).

Throughout 2017 the discord group consolidated power, resolved internal disputes. Surkit, a founding member, was displaced in these power struggles and replaced with Pyrogram, creating a ruling three of Lichter, Dark Vengeance and Pyrogram. Sometime between 2017 and 2018 Pyrogram lost most of his influence. At the same time discontent was swelling amid the rank-and-file. A number of old vets who swapped to the CV17 (name later changed to the CVU) had lost substantial influence in the switch to the new universe. Others were unhappy with the new, and more strict, rules that involved large scale storylines. Things became so bad many of them swapped back to the CVnU or stopped RPing altogether.

During this period the CVnU died. Weeks, perhaps months (I don't know exactly, I was not here to witness first hand) would go by without a post in the CVnU. The crowd of old vets and moderators withered away to almost nothing.

In 2018, on the fifteenth of February I returned. I rallied the old vets and the mods, developed a strategy, had the CVnU active again and put the discord group to the metaphorical sword. That was pretty much the end of that.

So where you were positioned during the discord/cvnu conflict would largely determine how you view it, in my opinion.

@kenzo_: Where you around for what happened?

@kenzo_: I suppose that depends on your perspective and how you rate duration vs intensity. If you were a member of the discord group at that time you might say it was fairly good for several years, then intensely bad for a month or so. If you were a CVnUer you might say it was fairly bad for several years, then intensely good for a month or so.
