Finished Superman #1.
I don't like it.
Long story short: The Daily Planet, which has apparently been both a newspaper and tv program (at least) is sold to black Rupert Murdoch. Lois's old tv position is given to Bill O'Reily with the hair of Glenn Beck. Lois is also seen f&cking Glenn O'Reily at the end of the book.
I'm sorry, but this was just full of bullshit.
For one, Superman has apparently "been gone from Metropolis" for a while, despite clearly still doing DP journalism, negotiating and bitching about the change, and there is no "five years ago", or "damn, I must become superman again depsite retiring" to explain what the hell is going on.
The bad guy? A fire monster which has something to do with Stormwatch #1 - go buy it today true believer!
You know, if I read this as an elseworld story, like Red Son meets Fox News, it fails to be inspiring or interesting. If I read this as "the new status quo", I don't like it. And if I read it as someone who doesn't have sex with any idiot with a pretty face/big chest, then I'm completely annoyed at Lois Lane. Either Glenn Beck here becomes a sympathetic character, which would be horrible, or Lois Lane is having sex with an asshat. Which is pretty terrible.
I don't know - maybe it's me and my modesty, but if you're gonna have your main character's love interest go around having sex with other people, those people either (a) have to be good guys, or (b) have to be bad guys who are using them/lying to them pretending to be good guys. To have Lois go around having sex with an asshole is a stain on her character. Maybe some of us would rather not be judged by our sexual histories. Too damned bad! I wouldn't want to be judged on my speeding tickets but I rightfully am! And it's one thing going 70 in a 60 zone, it's quite another to be plowed by Glenn Beck. Especially a Glenn Beck who works for you and you probably got him the job. For ^&&$$%*s sake!
PS - Clark "got another interview with Superman"... if there's supposed to be a thing between Lois and Superman based on their interviews, you've got to wonder why there isn't a big "Clark Kent is Superman's homosexual life partner" thing. I mean they're always sneaking off, and no one has ever seen them together... but Clark Kent keeps getting all of these choice interviews, which Superman confirms while winking.
The sad fact of the matter is that Lois Lane is a villain in this book. She is a sell out with poor taste in men.
PSS - Is this book supposed to be pro-Fox News? I actually can't tell! Lois Lane defends it, Clark contributes to the paper even after it has been bought out, and the only "bad" thing about the takeover is that Black Rupert Murdock expected the journalists to be more daring. Hell, they actually hack the city's computers, and seemingly get away with it, a direct homage to Fox New's sister company hacking the personal emails of a victim and deleting messages, thereby giving her faimly false hope.
OMFG. I may borrow DC books from friends, but DC will NEVER get another penny from me.
