Ow, it gets funnier as it goes on - with last Venom issues especially. This time I've even got a date to compare - August, 3rd, more than a month ago, I've made a character for Marvel Heroic Roleplay game. Picking powers at random, I've stuck with "Optic Blast". Naturally, I didn't want to make a Cyclops clone, so I've started to think of, a-hem, alternative power sources, and decided to make him daemonhost a-la WH40k, and as such his Optic Blast wouldn't be an "Optic Blast", but hellish "Glare Of the Pit", coming from the demon in his head.

However there was a problem about that - demons in Marvel, as well as in WH40k aren't known for benevolent approach to their hosts. So, technically, char should have his soul ripped to sheds and eaten, and that's would be bad, since I've wanted to play a mortal, not a demon. Required Secondary Powers were required. So I thought "Okay, if optic blast isn't really his power, then, logically his power would be being able to host demons, right?". With that thought I wrote entire backstory, how he is some kind of Chosen One, as calculated by satanic Cult of Brimstone, and according to their prophecy he would be a perfect vessel for their lord, because the stars were right at his conception. So the summoning ritual Went Horribly Right, and their demonic patron got incarcerated inside of toddlers head, without any means of influence.

Then the Venom #24 comes out.

Your post reminds me a couple of years ago (after Spider-Man 3 came out...crappy film) when I did a fan fiction one-shot of Spider-Man saving a suicidal young man from jumping off a building, the save giving him a second chance at life and all and coming back to the same place years later in hopes of thanking Spidey. It was during the Dark Era or Dark Avengers (or whatever) of Marvel when I saw a one-shot of Spidey saving a suicidal man, then years later the man returns to the same building to thank him, only to fall and Dark Spidey allows him to die. Forgot that issue that was, but yeah, I was surprised. I still have the one-shot on my ff.net account too lol.

Not just Spiderman. This kind of origin is sooo overused. The Flash and Hulk also got their powers this way, and I'm pretty sure that countless others have too.

Well of course, that's why I considered it classic. Flash, Hulk, Spiderman - they're older than, well, TV. I can barely remember modern heroes getting into Freaky Lab Accidents - now it's all military or genetic modification, or vegannes... No one gets hit by cosmic rays anymore.

Not just Spiderman. This kind of origin is sooo overused. The Flash and Hulk also got their powers this way, and I'm pretty sure that countless others have too.
